3.4 Ounce Beer Mug

Apparently, the Government is now recommending that people should limit their beer drinking to two beers per week. That is 3.4 ounces of beer per day. I like to drink my draft beer from a frosted beer mug, but I cannot find any source for a mug in that size, either online or in a bar. Does anyone know where I can buy a 3.4 ounce beer mug, or a bar where they will serve me the recommended amount of beer? Thanks for any suggestions.

bsloan1960 08-30-2023 12:57 PM

My suggestion is this: Enjoy your beer in any moderate quantity that makes you happy. I have 2 per day and this works well for me. I am unconcerned about the Government's opinion of what I do with my body. I'm retired and in my final chapter; I will not be micromanaged by Government for behaviors in moderation.

Kirk:
Captain Spock, damage report.

Spock:
Admiral, if we go "by the book". like Lieutenant Saavik, hours could seem like days.

Kirk:
I read you captain. Let's have it.

Spock:
The situation is grave, Admiral. We won't have main power for six "days". Auxiliary power has temporarily failed. Restoration may be possible, in two "days". By the book, Admiral.

It’s semantics.
Weeks feel like days. Days feel like weeks.
If you heed government policy, you are not paying attention.

I know of a few breweries that offer beer in mugs that size. It’s called the sampler platter, where you can get 6 mugs of different beers to try out. That way when you order a couple pints in frosty mugs, you can choose from your favorite samples.

Life is too short to have just a sip, if you want a beer have a beer perhaps only have it every few days.

Rick McNealy 08-30-2023 03:15 PM

There will be a point sometime in the future when I will not be drinking any beer. I'm drinking enough now so that it will average out to the recommended daily rate.

asianthree 08-30-2023 04:33 PM

I have A&W mugs that size. By a certain age stopping whatever vice you have probably won’t improve your health.

Keefelane66 08-30-2023 05:43 PM

It's only a recommendation. I to would down a 6 pack frequently now my consumption is maybe 2-3 weekly

Do you have a source for that claim? Instead of claiming “the government” did it, give us a link to the agency or department or court or legislature or whatever that has done this. Or is your source some clickbait site also claiming some living actor is dead?

Google the words "george koob", alcohol, and canada.

The source is the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) Director George Koob, who said that the U.S. may follow Canada's footsteps on alcohol guidelines. Currently, Canada recommends a limit of two drinks per week. But, please note that this thread was posted under the forum topic of "Just for Fun".

Why anyone would do what the government or their organizations suggests is beyond me. They are idiotic and have proven themselves to be useless and controlling. Use your brain!

Who listens to the government? I will not be micromanaged by an entity that doesn’t know science/common sense to back up their claims

"In heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here.."

Enjoy beer while you can.

Good for you. Two to 3 six packs a week sounds about right.

ROCKETMAN 08-31-2023 07:12 AM

Alcohol consumption

This did come from our government agency because that is the recommended in Canada. I would be out of luck by 5:30 on Monday if that was the start of the week. Google it, it’s there.

Well, I am so thankful that we have the government looking out for us. How would we ever run our lives without those smart people in government assisting us with even the smallest (but quite important) decisions. I personally don't think we give them enough in the way of taxes - they deserve a raise for all the good they do for us. Now, I'm off to get my 6th booster shot. </sarc>

Bay Kid 08-31-2023 07:27 AM

Beer Shots! We had those in college during happy hour at the local bar. 10-20 in an hour.

OhioBuckeye 08-31-2023 07:52 AM

I agree & disagree with that but what about all the other things they say we shouldn’t drink or eat that we’ve heard over the years?

3.4oz? No, but I still have a 1oz souvenir mug from one particularly raucous company outing at the old "Explorer's Club" in Disney's "Pleasure Island". Unfortunately, like beer and other wonderful things we used to be able to enjoy, Pleasure Island is no more. Now it's just a shopping center for Disney swag and they call it "Disney Springs".

Kungaloosh!

Apparently? Really! What are your sources - The Daily Mail, a British tabloid or worse yet, the New York Post, a joke of a "news" source. Canada has a similar suggestion for drinking but it has to do with weight control. Post something of substance next time.

Tvflguy 08-31-2023 08:09 AM

I’ve been following this guidance even closer much of the year. My consumption of Budweiser products has been ZERO.

Birdrm 08-31-2023 08:14 AM

Two beers a week, two beers a day, Two beers and hour. If you drink enough beer it all seems to be the same time! :beer3:

I believe you have your facts mixed up, they don’t sell cans of beer with 1.7 oz. That sounds like a shot of liquor. Also, the gov’t is reviewing Canada’s recommendation of 2 cans per day, which sounds like a sensible amount to me. I mean it’s not like they are going to recommend 2 six packs.

As I understand it, the current Canada recommendation is two drinks per week, not per day. See Post No. 15.

This government will not control my right to drink any amount of I.P.A. I choose to drink on any given day. Thank you for the Bill of Rights!!

Yep you’re right, that’s so absurd my brain wouldn’t let that properly sink in. I don’t drink but fully support the beer drinking community in speaking out against this nonsense.

Since medical costs are increasing at an unsustainable rate, it would be fiscally irresponsible and immoral if the government at a minimum did not offer science based health care advice.

Typical response: Hey give me my massively subsidized healthcare but butt out on what I eat, drink and how much I exercise.

I have my vices including alcohol and junk food because I am weak at times. But I have the self awareness to know that it has real consequences which I will eventually have to reckon with.

If you read the OP you will see that the government is "recommending" a daily intake of alcohol in this case beer. This is nothing new… There are several studies that show consumption of alcohol is not good for you. With that said there is nothing in any government document on this topic that is preventing you from doing whatever you want.:mornincoffee:

I'm sure this is meant to be a little humorous. I don't know if you're trying to poke at the government or not.
The government "recommends" lots of things that people do not do. That does not stop the government from continuing to provide information that might be helpful. It is true there are several studies out there that show the consumption of alcohol in any amount is not helpful. Humans by nature are not designed to consume alcohol....That does not stop us from doing it.
