Winn Dixie

Have been out of country for 3 weeks, but when I stopped at Lake Sumter Landing Winn Dixie Pharmacy was told that they are phasing out their Pharmacy since Aldi is buying SE Grocers. Perhaps this is old news to residents. Checked internet which confirmed the plan, and that the Pharmacy business will be directed to CVS and Walgreens. Some of the Winn Dixie stores will be converted to Aldis and around 400 will retain the Winn Dixie monitor and SE grocer Brands. Supposedly , the pharmacy transition will commence this fall and they are not currently restocking shortages. That tells a story about wasting your time going there. The total transition is scheduled for 2024.

This is disappointing as there will be less competition.

Keefelane66 09-02-2023 10:22 PM

Less competition there are more pharmacies in the area than Winn Dixie and Aldis

Not to mention mail order pharmacies.

Anyone know if the Lake Sumter Landing Winn Dixie will be one of the stores which will keep the WD name and brands?

JGibson 09-03-2023 08:18 AM

Every time I stop in that Winn Dixie the place is empty.

I really don't know how that location is profitable.

No one goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.

Isn't that a contradiction? "No one goes there because it's too crowded".

ROCKETMAN 09-04-2023 06:23 AM

All 400 stores will not remain Winn Dixie’s. A majority will change to Aldi. One in sumter May change to Aldi because no Aldi that close. Pinellis I think remains Winn Dixie because closeness to Aldi.

bowlingal 09-04-2023 06:28 AM

mtdj.....Publix pharmacy is so much cheaper than CVS or Walgreens. easy transfer of scripts done by Publix.

barbnick 09-04-2023 06:56 AM

Is this Yogi Berra speaking?

chuckandbernice 09-04-2023 07:03 AM

No Tramadol

My prescription for Tramadol which I get at Publix, could not be filled, it was on backorder. I gave up waiting for two weeks and checked CVS and Walgreens around Spanish Springs. They didn't have any either. Found some at Walgreens on Parr Drive. Because it is a very controlled drug, I needed a new prescription. Delay, delay, delay, finally got my prescription. Because I had to start over and the delay, I missed out/lost, about 75 pills. Advice: make sure you have a back up.

Changing to an ALDIs

Tell tale sign that ALDIs is coming to the heart of the Villages.

PVR 09-04-2023 07:15 AM

Depends on your insurance. All my monthly drugs are free at Walgreens but not at Publix. Also when you travel there is usually a Walgreens or CVS there.

Yogi Berra is famous for that. Another one is if you come to a fork in the road take it!

That's because folks were abusing the opioid and the DEA regulated it so much legit folks can't get it.

The thing is those who were abusing it have now moved on to fentanyl because of the regulations.

It's a shame Publix didn't take over the one in Lake Sumter Landing.

JanRoberts 09-04-2023 08:32 AM

One of the pharmacists told me that Walgreens was taking over the pharmacy at this store.

The quality of meat and vegetables at the WD has been in decline for years and their BOGO's are a joke. I never go there unless there is something on weekend sales flyer that appeals me.

Safety Ranger 09-04-2023 11:17 AM

more importantly is that this merger will results in all the WD,s closing the Liquor stores!!!

This one is easy. When Yogi gave directions to his house, he always said, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it" because whichever fork you took would lead to his house.

This is most likely caused by Aldi not having a license to operate a pharmacy - their stores are small and efficient with not enough room to operate a pharmacy. While they do have a license for the sale of beer and wine, they are not licensed to sell hard liquor.

Renting the pharmacy space in the Winn-Dixie's to Walgreens or CVS is a smart business decision - they do not have to apply for licenses and they can collect rent which goes right to the bottom line.

Thanks, never heard the second half of that one.

It’s like 90% of short putts don’t go in.

Except that is not what WD is doing.

They have sold their pharmacy client base to Walgreens. Future refills will have to be picked up at Walgreens. WD is closing the pharmacy and the liquor store. Keeping the wine sales.

I spoke with the pharmacist at the Winn Dixie on Bichara a few days ago. She told me that they are dismantling the Winn Dixie in Sumter Landing first and then will do the store on Bichara. She also said that the Bichara pharmacy would be open until at least the middle of November and perhaps even longer. Her name is Mary if you want to verify.

Employees

Spoko to one worker at Lake Sumter store who revealed that the majority of non-management would be held over under Aldi. However, middle and senior management would be squeezed out as there would be duplication!

May be a bit of a shock to former WD employees when Aldi take over.
Staff in Aldi get well paid, but work hard.
No standing around like the spare one at the wedding.

ROCKETMAN 09-05-2023 04:16 AM

Standing around

My wife works at Winn Dixie as a checkout 6 hrs a day at Pinellis. Only have 2 checkouts open maybe 3 once in a while and no ******* and no sitting. Aldi all sitting and you take care of bagging.

If the same as in Europe, if not busy at checkout, you stack shelves, and generally muck in.
As for sitting, have you seen the speed the checkout operators work at at Aldis?
Their policy is speed, not packing and chatting!
Get them in and get them out faster is the mantra

Didn't know Aldis was a German company.
Sad to see WD go as it was convenient for just running in and getting an item or two.

Was there talk of closing stores? I thought the two options were a Winn Dixie that might start carrying Aldi brands or a Winn Dixie that gets converted to an Aldi.

Has ANYONE heard if the proposed Winn Dixie on 466A and Micro Racetrack is still on? Personally, I don't care if they have a pharmacy or not. It would certainly help the heavy congestion at the Walmart and Pubix in the Colony area, espescially during "snowbird season".
Also, I really hope that at least a Neighborhood Walmart would be built south of 44.
