TV Antenna
Are outdoor TV antennas allowed in The Villages. We have Dish and can not get ABC and NBC.
|
Yes, the ARC says you need approval, but the Feds say they can't stop you.
|
Yes, there are many visible driving around TV in rear of homes, many install them in attic. Our neighbor has one on pole rear of home about a height of roof peak hardly noticeable.
|
100% allowed.
FCC rule takes prescience over all other restrictions. In the USA, no HOA, deed restriction, CDD, or ARC can stop or delay you. Law is here: Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule | Federal Communications Commission hXXps://w w w .fcc.gov/media/over-air-reception-devices-rule First paragraph of FCC law: The rule (47 C.F.R. Section 1.4000) took effect in October 1996. The Commission has modified the rule three times since then. The rule prohibits restrictions that impair the installation, maintenance or use of antennas used to receive video programming and certain antennas used to receive or transmit fixed wireless signals. The rule applies to certain antennas, including direct-to-home satellite dishes that are less than one meter (39.37") in diameter (or of any size in Alaska), TV antennas, wireless cable, and certain fixed wireless antennas. The rule prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal. |
Just because something is allowed doesn't mean you should do it. Since there are alternates the question is do you want to live in harmony with your neighbors? If you don't care about their feelings and want your home to look like a certain state's state flower, go for it, if you do care, put something that will work for you in the attic and live in peace.

There is a search function at the top of the page which is very helpful. There are more than a few threads about antennas and cord cutting in the archives. |
Suggestion
I believe you can get all the channels you want by switching from Dish to YouTube TV provided you have internet service. You can get good internet service from CenturyLink.
I have 1 gb service in Belle Aire for $65/mo and guarantee to never go up. You Tube TV is about $70/mo. If you would like more info contact me. Best regards. |
Guy a few houses down has an outside antenna that is doing a fine imitation of the leaning tower of Pisa.

Antenna
Are used an attic antenna up in Virginia and it works great. I have an outdoor antenna here in the villages and it works good except I am beneath a hill that blocks some channels, NBC, I believe is one. So depending on where you are located and over the air antenna may work fine.

Tried the attic antenna but there is too much interference. Apparently it’s due to the metal used in construction of the roof. At least that’s what I’m told. |
Don’t know if you’re allowed a antenna on the outside of house now but 5 yrs. ago you weren’t supposed to be allowed to have any kind of antenna on the outside. I think you were only allowed to have some kind of cable TV. You know you can put an antenna in your attic & get 50 channels. I would call TV head office & ask them. But if you drive around you’ll see a lot of antennas on houses. I agree cable TV cost a lot by the time you live in TV in 5 to 8 yrs.!

Buy a 100 mile range antenna and put it in your attic at the highest point. I get 70 plus channels.

I live in Fenny, and have a large Yagi antenna in my garage attic. I'm blessed with a good home orientation that is an easy point to Orlando. I connected a Winegard pre amp, and ran it through the existing cable network in my house to feed two TVs. I get 50+ channels, all of the networks and then some. I use services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and ESPN+ for everything else. More TV than I can watch in a lifetime. And as I didn't come to the Villages to watch TV, it suits me fine. |
You Tube also has local channel issues and drops channels as broadcasters raise the price . This is the new word of tv and there is no guarantee that any cable or streaming service will not have interruptions of channels as they fight with the programmers. I have researched all the services and although they are not perfect Dish Network has the least amount of channel interruptions and they have the lowest prices and the best DVR they are tough to beat and they are the only cable company that will let you deduct 12.00 dollars from you bill if you do not need the local channels. With the current writers strike it may be a year before new content makes it to ABC,NBC,CBS and Fox so who cares about garbage locals .

Always ask ARC, they are very friendly and helpful. They will often be able to offer helpful advice. In this case it isn’t critical but the next issue may not be as simple. Why rely on people who may have good intentions but not always the facts.

That is the purpose of the law. Allows people to put antennas on their property. Not restricted to attic, back yards, or anywhere else. |
