You were not aware that your dryer vent needs cleaning on an annual or semi-annual basis? Especially if your dryer is not on an outside wall and is vented through the roof?

We were rather ignorant when we first moved here about living here and maintenance that needed to be done.

This was one of the first things we learned

. Truth be told, dryer vents are the same everywhere. They all need cleaning, not just in the Villages.

BlueStarAirlines 10-04-2023 06:10 AM

It seems in The Villages there are 5 vent cleaners for every resident. Since I'm a member in 5-6 Villages Facebook group its a front row seat to all the scammers.

Its good to see a legitimate local business.

Just make sure the vent cleaner is willing to go up and check the vent on the roof. The first two cleaners we hired couldn’t fix the problem, but the third one did. He found that the roof drier vent was completely blocked. Call Jim at 352-801-3902.

Make sure they check the drier vent on the roof

We learned the hard way that the drier vent is impossible to fully clean without getting on the roof. The first two cleaners we hired didn’t do that and couldn’t fix our problem. But the 3rd one did - call Jim at 352-801-3902. Notably we paid about the same price for all the visits.

Mazjaz 10-04-2023 06:55 AM

If your dryer vent needs cleaned annually or semi annually you must be doing 50 loads a day and no screen in your dryer.

DonnaNi4os 10-04-2023 07:00 AM

Your dryer couldn’t have been drying your cloths very well with that kind of a build up. Please everyone, empty the lint filter after every load. I was a Girl Scout leader and used dryer lint to start campfires.

We clean ours every 1.5 years or when it starts taking longer to dry clothes. We do 5 to 7 loads a week because we have that Florida glow from biking, walking, and catching pollen/dust. We also have furry pets.

The lint filter is emptied (almost) every time.

I suppose it depends on what fabrics you use.

Our vent didn't go up wall, but straight out the outside wall.

A really good lesson learned.

Sorry, I meant to say annually or every two years. Even that is quite often. Actually, my dryer vent guy cleans my vent through the roof every three years. He does a really good job. He takes lots of photos too. I highly recommend him.

Just a little common sense....

Would you agree most appliances have improved over the last 50 years? How many dryer fires have you personally been within 50 miles of during the last 50 years? Would you agree your house has fewer occupants than 50 years ago?

My 13 year old home dryer vent, here at TV Panic Central, was just "cleaned" Top (roof) to bottom. 2 people living here, a visiter or 2 per year and yet.... less than 1/2 a small zip baggy of lint recovered.

Do it if it makes you feel safer. Cleaning the dryer mesh after every usage is plenty for me.

Hizzonner1030 10-04-2023 02:00 PM

Cost?

What’s the normal charge for a through the roof vent?

Carla B 10-04-2023 03:16 PM

I just paid $65.00 to Covenant Janitorial and their guy does go up on the roof. It's really not a high-tech job as made out to be.!

Appliances overall have not improved. They have become overly complicated.

How many people can get 30 years out of a frig anymore. Lucky to get 10 or so. Ours is 13 years old and have needed two service calls in past year.

Carolina Wrens like to nest in nice warm, cosy dryer vents, So if the vent door sticks open even a little bit, they may nest there. Once they do, the vent becomes more obstructed. So check them before mating season, which up north is early spring.

Certified and licensed by WHOM?
DBPR (department of business and professional regulations) does not have a license for appliance repair or dryer cleaning. DO NOT be mislead!

hamsterfay 10-05-2023 10:36 AM

Couple of months ago we switched to a GE Combo Washer/Dryer. One machine for both. Love it and no more lint removal services needed. It has a lint trap in the machine that we clean but no more connections to an external lint vent. Got to seal it off. Plus with one machine we have extra room in our laundry closet.

Good question.I’m sure our customer was not trying to be misleading. There is no business license in Florida for what we do. We are just an LLC but our technicians have been through the course with the CSIA. That is also not required in Florida but we did it for knowledge. We are just a three person very small business. We are insured to protect ourselves and our customers.

We vent to the roof in our new home. Our dryer is on a pedestal in a tight space, so not super easy to pull out, though a bit easier since putting pads under the 4 corners. If we do only 4 loads/week, and always clean the lint basket, how often do we need to have this cleaning done to be safe? TIA!

Lastag 11-20-2023 03:42 PM

Same thing happened to us. I had so much lint! Thank you for the recommendation. Yes. The guys were really nice, and I didn't need a new dryer.
