It's a potbellied pig. They make great pets, IF you have a large, fenced-in yard, an air-conditioned shed you can load up with hay for their bedding, a pool and mud-wallow for them to bathe and cool off in. Obviously - not an appropriate pet for The Villages.

It is a real live pig. Isn't it too large to be a pot bellied pig? It had become a nuisance running loose. Compliance said it is allowed because it is a pet. I'm waiting for my pet alligator to arrive.

That is not a wild pig. Wild pigs are a lot leaner than that little porker and they have much longer legs. That appears to be somebody's pet which, I believe, should be on a leash just as a dog should be.

I think you're all mistaken. That not a pig. That's a photo-shopped picture of a pig.

Look at the missing front legs -- where have you ever seen grass growing so high in a lawn in the Villages that it could completely hide the legs of a 500 pound pig? And I spent my teenage years working on a hog farm, and I can tell you -- even pet pot-bellied pigs don't have shiny fur like a statue.

Don’t think so. OP stated that pig had been running loose and also had contacted compliance. Believe at that point this went beyond a gag picture. Either it is true or the poster lied. I doubt the latter. I’m just amazed that you can have a pet pig here. I’d like to have a pet Fox myself. Have to check that out.

Never saw a cat attack a person, child or other animal unprovoked. Also I’ve had many cats in my life….ever try to walk a cat on a leash?? Naw, cats are ok off leash

Read your deed restrictions, nearly identical in most districts. We don't know which district has a pig. Pretty clearly no animals other than dogs, cats, fish, and birds are permitted. So whoever in "compliance" told you that as long as it is a pet it is ok may not know the rules.

First screenshot is district 6 which limits the number of pets and says only specific animals are ok, then district 13 which says only domestic pets [which is not defined] are ok but excludes swine as a pet.

Check the deed restrictions for that area. Mine mention dogs, cats, and fish and state no other animal. Mine also require that pets be on a leash. (No, fish probably would not be on a leash but they also would not be wandering around the neighborhood) I am surprised that the compliance office would be unaware of that.

If an animal is off-leash and on your property then I think county animal control would be a appropriate number to call.

Here is a picture from another day with the pig.
My wife called Community Watch and they gave her the number for "compliance" which is Community Standards. I called and spoke to a female that had to ask her supervisor. He told her it was allowed because it was a pet.

Also a problem with a dog they have. I haven't seen it on a leash or them picking up after it in at least 3 years. Not the kind of neighbor you want.

Ideas:

1. Call Community Standards again and ask about deed restrictions, pets, and leashes (since it is off their property)
2. Call animal control - could be wild but is at least stray
3. Attend your CDD meeting and bring this up. It will be on the record in front of District representatives who can help

Because the dog craps in my yard and the 90 year old widow looks to me for help. There have been many problems with these folks. For example, the 30-40 year old guy asked the 90 year old widow for money. I was at a garage party and she called me because she was scared. Another time she was panicking and called me fearing the pig was going to uproot her lawn. When the guy had a real fast remote control car, he broke a sprinkler that had not gone down. I repaired it saying nothing. Next day saw it driving over the same sprinkler. In my opinion they are squatters waiting for probate to settle the estate. I know a fellow made a deal with them the buy the house releasing their claim to probate and paid for a U-Haul truck for them to move. Half moved and now back. Do you want them for neighbors??

My brother who had a pot bellied pig (and knew several others who had them) says that the pigs have to be on a special diet to stay small. IMO, a starvation diet. A friend of his fed a pot bellied pig a normal died for a pig and it went to 400 lbs last he knew.
