Cloned Gate Cards still work!

I just had a new cloned gate card installed on my new car and it works well in all the gates I have tried. As mentioned in previous posts, it would be difficult for the developer to make the cloned cards not work (since they are exact copies of the originals).
I had mine done by "The Village Blacksmith" for $35. Ellie Yifrach was professional and ensured that it would work.
If you are considering getting this done, I highly recommend Ellie. His contact number is: 352-530-5984.

I just push the red button if I don’t have my ISSUED card.

twoplanekid 10-16-2023 06:48 PM

Everyone has the right to their own opinion on this subject of cloned gate cards. I have personally cloned my own card and installed them in both my and my brother’s cars several years ago. He owns a house up the street from me in the Villages.

For me, it’s a convenience and safety issue that I enjoy. I don’t need to look for the ISSUED  card nor look for the window control to thus have both eyes on the gate and on the wheel the whole time. For those that question the use of a device that opens the gates with little to no effort, you should try it and or ride with someone that uses it. I will never go back to the old way. And I would say to District staff that tells me that their expectation is that cloned cards will not work in the future. I hope you are wrong.

P.S. My cloned cards still work at all gates.

Fir 35 bucks willing to use my card.

Mleeja 10-16-2023 09:09 PM

It is not hard to wave your card or press a button. If it is raining one can go through the visitors gate and the attendant will open the gate for you. If The Villages installs a more passive system I would certainly use it. In the meantime, I will save $35.00 and just use my card.

kaydee 10-16-2023 09:55 PM

When saying “ cloned gate card” is that the same as the magnet inserted behind the side view mirror?

It is usually a round plastic disc that is attached to the outside mirror with an adhesive, not a magnet.

Maker 10-17-2023 06:31 AM

It's clear that many people have, and prefer to use, a gate opener card in their mirror.
These gates are blocking PUBLIC roads.
We, the owners here, are the ones who pay for everything here. That includes the management staff and all the infrastructure.

Management needs to remember that they work for us. Heavy handed actions against us are not appreciated or acceptable.

Heavy handed by one, may be appreciated by many.

I don't mind spending big bucks on items that I use every day. I believe that my cost per gate opening is now down to around 2 cents and lowering each time I use the cloned chip to open the gate.

Another thread from this year on the chips.

We didn't pay $35. Ours was much less expensive. Also, it's well known that many of the gates do not have a gatekeeper. Most of the ones we use every day have no gatekeeper. The gates we use every day will not read the card from inside the car window. I enjoy not getting my arm wet in the Florida downpours.

Only if you go through a manned gate.

That thread had 74 posts…….could this thread have as many?

Next, they will be cloning resident ID cards.

Nah, a reader/writer is about 10 bucks.

https://www.amazon.com/Pomya-Reader-...s%2C100&sr=8-3

The chips are about 40 cents each with the adhesive.

Carla B 10-17-2023 11:21 AM

Advantages of the cloned cards: No wear and tear on the window opener, no getting arm wet in the rain, no fumbling of the card, as in it dropping either in or outside the car while trying to use it, thus delaying flow of traffic.

But, but, but.........you have to open your window. I much prefer not to open my window. I hold my card on the door with the window closed and it works with all gates that I use frequently. I would love to get one of the cloned cards installed in the side mirror but hubby does not want it done on our newish car.

My sun visor has a slot that the gate card fits perfectly in. I assume that slot is for gate cards. I can still drop the card but as soon as I get it from the visor, I prop it on the door so it is right next to the window. I am driving with one hand at this point but so far so good. I would still much prefer to have that gizmo installed on my side view mirror though.

Following your logic is it safe to assume you never spend money at a restaurant since you can save the money by eating at home? If not, why is it worth $35 to eat one meal, but not $35 on a product that gives value day after day?

The reader writer and a batch of 20 chips is less than 35 bucks and you can do your cars, golf carts even bicycles. Then do the neighbors too and still have left over chips for less than 25 dollars.

Sandy and Ed 10-18-2023 05:40 AM

HUH?? I like the gates. Controls traffic and helps avoid collision with golf carts Helps keep out the riffraff that would use the residential neighborhoods as bi/pass roads. One of the reasons I moved here. What’s your beef with that???

banjobob 10-18-2023 05:46 AM

Great tip ,but are the gate card readers at the same height and how far away will it read the card?

Our card is read at about 18 inches thru tinted glass driver window

Justputt 10-18-2023 07:17 AM

Hmm, this is what retired people focus on? I was told the gates aren't there to control access but to moderate speed, at least we don't have speed bumps.

Some of the gate openers in the old sections of The Villages are higher than in the newer sections, so the mirror readers may not work as well on them. I have my own clone reader/writer, and I have found that attaching 3 adhesive discs to the mirror work better than using only one. Also, attaching a disc with waterproof tape on the outside edge of the mirror housing is the best location.

Most are mounted inside the side mirror. Not visible and work great. $15, shop around.

If it’s raining you can hold your card against your window and the gate will open. Have to make sure you’re close enough though.

huge-pigeons 10-18-2023 07:31 AM

Is $35 really going to make a difference in your budget? You would rather destroy your window motor or get your car wet to save a few bucks.
I’ve had my cars done and I got over a dozen cars done for $25 each.

USN-Retired 10-18-2023 08:11 AM

My wife is paralyzed from waist down. We have a vehicle with hand controls that gives her some sense of freedom. The ability to get thru a gate without having to place vehicle in park to free up her hands to roll down a window & find the gate card to scan is a godsend!

We don’t have a visitors gate in our village. I have a cloned chip in my mirror and love it. Well worth the money when it’s poring rain or windy and cold. When/if I get another car, I’ll get one installed on that car, too.

I talked to a lady at the Villages Business office this week and she told me that after the new year, my cloned card would not work. The new, replacement cards will not be able to be cloned. Not sure if she was blowing smoke, but I wonder how they will replace EVERYONE's gate cards, if the old ones won't work next year.
I enjoy having the little cloned disk inside my outside drivers side mirror. It's much faster and I no longer drop and fumble for the card when approaching a gate. I've only had a couple gates that it didn't work because the gate sensor was too high.

They’re going to put card readers at the pools and don't want any cloning.

Keefelane66 10-19-2023 08:24 AM

Currently I believe The Villages uses 125kHz RFID cards there are some limitations they may change to a dual frequency reader that may not be able to be cloned on newly issued cards or replacements time will tell.

Where did you get this information? I would like to go to the audio recording of the meeting and listen to the details.

The chips are about 40 cents each with the adhesive.

. That particular one likely won't work as it doesn't say "HID" compatible.

. If NEW ones going forward l go that route, maybe, but then again it would seem pretty useless to have 120,000 as is current type and the next few thousand updated. It would seem to have to be "all or none" and I strongly doubt they plan on changing probably 100,000++ existing cards and every gate reader.

. Why does there need to be so much rationalization for getting one of these? Window motors? Really. It's just an easy, lazy CONVENIENCE. People pi$$ away more money on cigarettes, or booze in one day then on one of these things.

So much BS goes on here every time a thread like this gets started (and there seems to be an advertisement for someone else every month or 2 for a new thread).

. That shows how little she knows. If your card was actually **CLONED** what she says is impossible but if the person who did your card just entered RANDOM NUMBERS on it that are not in The Villages database ONLY THEN is that possible. **IF** what she said was true they would have to replace every single existing card which is probably well over 100,000. It is POSSIBLE that NEWLY ISSUED cards may not be able to be cloned but all existing ones will be fine and could still be cloned.
