Fill up your tank soon!

Regular gas at Neighborhood Walmart today was $3.09. Got a fill up to the top.

Absolutely appears that oil prices will be rising and gas too.

The Middle East situation and the lower domestic production will impact prices very soon. We are also going to increase importing Venezuelan oil. And the Strategic Oil Reserve of the USA is down by over 45% the last few years.

This is all converging…. Not good news for energy prices. hang on.

Just drove north from the Villages and the difference in gas prices in the states we drove through (state taxes) is amazing. Cheapest gas was $2.89 in South Carolina and most expensive was $3.99 in both Pennsylvania and New York. Prices in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia were more than South Carolina, but still in the low to mid $3 range. Massachusetts is around $3.59. I didn’t check the price in the sliver of Maryland we passed through, but it’s typically close to the $3.99 states. Ironically, the worst road conditions we encountered during the 1,350 mile ride were easily in both Pennsylvania (Rt. 81 and 84) and New York (Rt. 84), the highest gas price states.

You do realize that the price of gas is the price of gas, and the difference among states is primarily taxes.

People think that they will not be able to fill up again so they have to top off.

In UK $6.42 a US.gallon. 5% ethanol.
Mainly taxes, but it's a lot cheaper than it was some time back!

roob1 10-20-2023 06:53 AM

I waited until my low gas light came on, therefore I am entitled to go first because my tank is lower than yours. How long did it really take for the car to put in 2 gallons? GMAFB!

JGibson 10-20-2023 07:37 AM

Don't worry 3.2% should cover it.

MrFlorida 10-20-2023 07:37 AM

Please, don't start panic buying, we had enough during covid with toilet paper.

RICH1 10-20-2023 07:43 AM

3.29 in Western NC yesterday… topped off with 18 gallons… being retired, I may not need gasoline for another month

Amen.

I recall one of the first gas "crises". 1971 or so. Gas had just gone up from $0.39 per gallon to $0.50 and people were irate. I know, because I was working nights at a gas station at the time while going to college classes during the day. Lots of really P.O.'ed people blaming whoever was handiest to blame. Most of the time, it was us.

Do you know how much $0.50 in 1971 would be worth today?

$3.61.

'Nuff said.

Keefelane66 10-20-2023 08:07 AM

We paid $2.91 at BJ’s with loyalty discount.

They do but a gallon is 3.79 liters. I assume he did the conversion for us.

First time I rented a car in England, I was amazed at how cheap gas was. Until I realized the price was in liters - not gallons!!

Bay Kid 10-20-2023 09:15 AM

A shame we are dependent on countries that hate us. We need to use our own resources.

Is the ethanol used for gasoline produced locally? If so what plant source is used?

I use GasBuddy and iExit and Gasbuddy prices are not always accurate, like manipulated. I went to a station in Fruitland park which had the lowest diesel at like $4.17 and the actual price when I got there was $4.59, i entered the correct price in Gasbuddy and the next day, the price was back dow to $4.17. . .

someone must be getting a free coffee every morning, or the owner thinks he is going to get more customers. . maybe once....

If you are financially able, you can buy 100 shares of UGA and offset the price increase with a hedge, and sell the 100 shares for the profit amount equal to the amount of gas you use in a year time the difference between the low price and say $4.00 a gallon divided by (1 - your incremental tax rate. . ) and pay for the increase for the next year with after tax profits.

personally i bought 200 shares. . as I have two vehicles and one is diesel truck, so I need a bit more hedging

getting into that retirement mentality of driving up to 100 miles to save those pennies. .

From what I found, most of our Ethanol was/is imported from Brazil, mainly manufactured from sugar cane.
British Sugar Corp. opened a plant in UK in 2007, and use Sugar Beet.
Seems we now produce about 35% of our own.

All that pees me off, is my car needs the 5% Ethanol gas, which is about 63 cents a US gallon more than the 10% Ethanol fuel.

Thanks. Brazil does it right: Ethanol from sugar cane is about a 7-1 return on energy invested to produce it. Over here we use mainly corn, which at best is a push: you put as much energy into producing it as you get back out of it. We could be using sorghum, which I understand grows just about everywhere corn does and gives about a 2-1 return, but we don't.

Maybe I'm in a minority, but it just seems immoral to be using food for fuel.

dtennent 10-20-2023 03:03 PM

In the USA, most of the ethanol is made here using corn as a feedstock. MGP in Kansas makes ethanol from wheat but most of that goes into liquor.

1 day a week I am in Gainesville, Disney, or the coast, so near Sam’s, multiple WaWa’s Costco, so neighborhood Walmart from south of 44 is no big deal, than again, neither is .89….;)

Pennsylvania is one of the states with the highest gas taxes, so their prices are always high.

You are right, Pennsylvania was at 62 + cents per gallon. Not as high as California at almost 78 cents.

$2.99 outside of the bubble as of yesterday. $1.89 inside the bubble in 2019. I used to fill up in the Bubble when I came here to explore. Something happened, not sure what... ??

Now I leave the bubble to get gas lol.
