Poop quiz
1 Attachment(s)
Found this in my yard near our pond near Lake Deaton.
Looks like it eats berries. Any one knowledgeable in poop analysis? |

Looks like it only eats berries. Scat doesn't look to be large enough for bear. Lastly, I haven't noticed any berry farms in full swing nearby. Wonder if it might not be poop at all. Maybe some kind of egg mass, ie: insect, reptile, amphibian, or ?? |
Without scale for size I would guess coyote or fox.

Could be raccoon, they eat trash, and berries.

I would say a racoon, definitely not an aligator.

Probably Racoon Scat with Sabal Palm seeds (dates)
I agree with Asianthree and Vintageoguage that these are likely racoon scat. I have found these in Osceola Hills near extensive wooded areas. They are about 3/4 to 1 inch diameter.
The seeds appear to be sabal palm fruits (dates?) and not fully ripe. These fruits reportedly have little flesh and are not digested easily. |
That looks exactly like bear scat to me, which I've seen on various long distance wilderness hikes in Texas, California, and the Appalachian Trail. I've heard that racoon scat looks similar, but I can't confirm, even though we had lots of raccoons at our old place. I think I read somewhere that they designate a toilet spot, to try to hide it from predators. If you found that in the middle of your yard, I would say bear.

They can of course carry rabies so be careful picking up after them. |

Without a doubt, raccoon.

It looks like deer to me.

I vote for possum.

Gotta laugh at what some people will post, for questions!

We have a six inch high paver wall and planter circle in our front "yard" in our courtyard villa, and I found a nearly identical pile of this stuff on the wall a couple weeks ago. No way it's a bear, but I think it was probably a large squirrel or other berry eater. I was surprised by the size of the pile.

That is for sure a Velossa Raptor(I think thats how it is spelled) anyway you need to sell your house to me and move immediately because those things a dangerous!

We have been the recipient. Of the same type of scat in our yard and last Sat night on the middle of our driveway. This has been going on for several months. We have sent pictures to Florida Wildlife but they did not know. The scat seems way too large for a raccoon. We had raccoons up North but never saw scat like this.

Whatever it was, it seems to be a vegetarian, maybe even a vegan.

If this was BEAR scat one would want to know that fact. When our cameras picked up a Bear multiple times in our Pennacamp neighborhood, we wanted to alert everyone near. Within a few days it was trapped and removed. If one doesn’t know what creates that scat, one needs to ask the question. A raccoon not a big deal, a bear especially new mom with cubs, can be a problem |

Seriously people answer questions about poop? Sorry poop is poop.

Bobcat and coyote scat will often have tufts of hair/fur visible in the scat since they are carnivorous. |

Be careful if it’s raccoon scat because it can carry roundworms, which are very dangerous to humans as they will invade your brain.
