I would wait if possible for the economy to start its fall.. ac companies at the moment are the worst.. I have looked at Facebook marketplace and found a lot of ac guys doing a far cheaper job of installing.. once it’s installed you can pay whoever you like to maintain it.. on a cost basis I have found marketplace saves about 50% a significant amount..

retiredguy123 10-25-2023 07:47 AM

Chuck Farrell or Munn's are both good. I would use Munn's if their price is competitive because it is a larger company and more likely to respond quickly to warranty repairs.

Ecuadog 10-25-2023 07:49 AM

Chuck Farrell did ours a little over 6 years ago. Great experience. Great price. No problems. Highly recommend him.

MrFlorida 10-25-2023 07:50 AM

Munn's , fast service if you need it in the future.

Personally used Hilliards on my home when it was built in 2021 in Summerfield and use them for continued maintenance. Prompt, easy to work with, and decently priced :)

ThirdOfFive 10-25-2023 08:24 AM

Munn's. They replaced our A/C (circa 2000) about 10 months ago. They have the Carrier brand (may have others too, I don't know). You might pay a little more but ours came with a 10 year parts-and-labor warranty and so far as worked flawlessly. We got a $500 rebate from our energy supplier: Munn's supplied all the necessary paperwork.

We contacted them on a Friday and by Noon the following Wednesday the unit was up and running.

They replaced everything: A/C unit, furnace, Freon lines, slab, etc.

Highly recommend them. Responsive and professional.

collie1228 10-25-2023 08:58 AM

I'm curious about the cost these days. I put a new Carrier system in my courtyard villa ten years ago and it was about $4,500 then, installed by Munn's. Can someone tell me a ballpark figure of what they are paying today?

Lottoguy 10-25-2023 09:52 AM

Chuck Farrell hands down! Also they have a great rebate going on now. Get the WIFI thermostat too.

Sunshine was excellent from start to finish.

Impossible to get a acute price by Munn's or anyone else.
It depends on the model AC you choose, the square footage, the output of the unit. etc.

Mary & I highly recommend. Chuck Farrel. He installed our new A/C years ago, and has serviced it ever since. We couldn't be happier with the service or the cost.

$8,000. Per my above post.

kfierle 10-25-2023 11:44 AM

Chuck Farrell installed my new unit in 2019. Price was great, install was flawless, and service has been superior. Highly recommend!

retiredguy123 10-25-2023 11:51 AM

To me, it is worth paying a little more money for a Carrier system installed by Munn's. Carrier is the most commonly used system in The Villages, so parts will be readily available. Also, Munn's works 24/7, so they will be available to perform the warranty work, which is important considering these systems come with a 10 year warranty. Also, I would recommend buying a simple, single stage compressor, which is the most common system installed in The Villages. There was another thread on this website where a poster was waiting 4 months for a part because he had purchased a fancy, variable speed Bosch compressor from a contractor in Clermont.

Highly recommend M&S A/C. They installed a mini split unit in our garage and did an excellent job. Ditto for replacing our main HVAC unit. Both are Mitsubishi.

Chuck Farrell’s is reliable, and reasonable. I have used them for the past 12 years and never have been disappointed in their service or price!

rsmurano 10-26-2023 05:16 AM

Are you replacing an air conditioner or a heat pump? These days and for many decades, never buy just an air conditioner, buy a heat pump. I’ve had them in all my houses since the 80’s. They are much more efficient for both heating and cooling and will save you a lot of money. Then get a smart thermostat like the ecobee and configure it to use geofencing, and you will save more money on cooling bills, plus you can operate thru your iPhone.

Also, if you are going to spend this kind of money, don’t go cheap. Single stage is cheap and more inefficient than a dual stage.

I like Chuck Farrell

Before you pick a vendor you may want to consider the type of system you put in. 410A is being phased out and may cost thousands if you have to replace it in future repairs. Not sure if it is an option yet in Florida.

May be worth holding off a few more months.

Also a variable speed compressor is more efficient but more expensive. Still may want to consider it because it doesn't have to be cycled on and off constantly so you won't have the blast of hot air every time it starts. And with a variable speed fan you will have excellent humidity control.

R410a being phased out starting Jan, 2023

We shopped around and obtained estimates and information from 6 companies, then decided to go with DiSantis. They offered the "Best Value" solution with a Trane unit.

HJBeck 10-26-2023 06:50 AM

We used Munn’s, not cheap but they gave use a 12 year parts and labor warranty for a a Carrier unit with SEER rating of 19. Won’t tell you it was inexpensive but our highest electric bill has been $120.00. This is for the four years we’ve had it.

springfield 10-26-2023 07:15 AM

Chuck Farrell is replacing ours next week. They are honest and reliable. They are now carrying Champion because of the reliability and it has a 10 year parts and labor warranty, which is unheard of.

mikesplace 10-26-2023 07:39 AM

We have used Hilliards do 29 years! They are honest and prompt with their services and their techs are outstanding. Highly recommend them.

We used Chuck Farrell - best price around. Employees were neat and tidy and completed the job quickly. We couldn’t be happier. Also know if several others that have used them and are very happy also.

HVAC systems don't need to be "tuned up".

C'mon man, you know what they mean. Annual inspection, coil cleaning, condensate drain cleaning, etc. Not to mention Carrier requires proof of annual maintenance while the unit is under the warranty period.

Another reason an annual inspection (by a pro) is a good idea, is that I've seen more than one condensate overflow switch fail on units here in The Villages. The resulting backup of water due to homeowners failing to clean the condensate drain can cause thousands of dollars in damage, if not caught in time.

And no, I'm not an HVAC person, and I feel the $129 a year is money well spent.

swiley 10-26-2023 12:20 PM

Highly recommend Chuck Farrell. I have used him for over 6 years on multiple properties and was always very satisfied. Honest, knowledgeable and great service.

I know what they mean, but some people don't. They think that the system actually needs to be tuned. My Carrier warranty doesn't say anything about requiring annual maintenance to enforce the warranty. Also, cleaning out the condensate drain once per year is not nearly often enough. That is why some drains get clogged.

The warranty requires regular maintenance, as outlined in the owners manual. Personally I wouldn't want to take a chance on Carrier balking at a claim of mine if I couldn't provide proof of professional annual service. Especially since it's cheap. Bottom line is that most people don't know (or care) about cleaning the condensate line (I do it quarterly) or the filter, until it becomes an issue. I've seen some that are just disgusting.

That being said, I highly recommend Good Guys Heating and Air Conditioning, 352-557-9437. I've used them for service and repairs, and found them to be outstanding.

Just had Chuck Farrell install ours today. We have had Munns for years and have been happy with them but the price difference in quotes was too big to ignore so we decided to go with another poster’s chuck Farrell suggestion. Install went just great today. To be fair, quote wasn’t exactly apples to apples but we were happy with options (and savings).
