Have you noticed.....

As some of you know, when I am investigating something, I'm rather thorough. Lately, However, when I ask questions online(not on TOTV), I find my questions are blocked. Am I paranoid? It seems the powers that be do not want to have my question out there? Does anyone else have this problem or do i just have too much time on my hands and my OCD is taking over.....? I feel trapped by this and find the internet isn't all that helpful, just a lot of junk products and everyone is covering up how junky they are? Thoughts? Maybe i just don't know how to google things? I try different wording for exactly what i am looking for......Im wondering if this is related to Net Neutrality...

Gpsma 10-27-2023 12:50 PM

Hmmm…ask your question here?

Or perhaps to a therapist

villagetinker 10-27-2023 12:54 PM

I research stuff all the time, even occasionally use Bing Chat, and have never had a question blocked, so I am guessing it may be the subject matter that you are searching for, or the site thinks you are underage, or something similar.

Two Bills 10-27-2023 12:59 PM

Online could depend on whose line you are on.

Stu from NYC 10-27-2023 01:36 PM

Who is doing this and what type of questions are being asked?

Velvet 10-27-2023 02:47 PM

I would think it depends on your question, just for example, ask something political and watch your post blocked faster than a bullet…

Specifically, it's Reddit.

It's on Reddit and involves the specific materials used in an item for sale.

Have never had a question or answered blocked by google, and don’t know anyone who has - and some of the questions have been off the wall. Kinda doubt “the powers that be” as you refer to them are singling you out.

Oh, I don't think they're singling me out. I'm saying if you ask indepth questions about certain products, Reddit is concerned about advertisers and won't let the question post except to the community mods. Not just my questions but anyone's, if you ask the wrong question.

bowlingal 10-28-2023 06:06 AM

gigi, try posting on Nextdoor.com

Each Reddit sub has independent moderators. They decide what they will allow (& each sub is different). Perhaps look for info on the sub from the moderators. If you are lucky they will spell out what they allow & what gets blocked (many do detail what the sub's purpose it & the rules).

Good luck.

Not enough information here to answer your question without more context from you.

Reddit has over 3 million groups (subreddits) and each group has its own set of moderators. Each of those 3+ million groups have their own posting policies. Many Reddit groups freeze you out as a first-time poster until a moderator can get around to reviewing your first post. There can be a delay between the time you first post and the time your post is visible—-especially for very active groups with hundreds or thousands of daily posts. Some Reddit groups have a ‘bot’ to do some of this work and who knows how they work.

Can you give us some example posts verbatim, the related names of the Reddit groups, and whether you are a first-time poster to each of those groups? In giving more context you will get better feedback to what you seem to want from TOTV.

True

True for most social boards.

If a moderator "has your number" and it becomes personal.........the moderator can become childish and limit your postings.

IndianaJones 10-28-2023 06:51 AM

There are a lot of new Mods on Reddit - I agree, a lot more being blocked!

JGibson 10-28-2023 06:56 AM

Reddit and Nextdoor have to be the two most censored platforms.

Most of their mods and workers are college kids based in cities like San Francisco. Actually, Nextdoor is based in San Fran.

FB and Instagram aren't much better.

I found that since Elon bought Twitter/X it’s the closest you're going to get to free speech.
They have specific communities like Reddit but they are so many years behind Reddit’s sub-community.

I also find great independent journalists on X that don't have an agenda like the corporate media.

KShowalter 10-28-2023 07:21 AM

I have been on TOTV since April and never been "allowed" to post. No reason given. I think as a new member my application was being reviewed. Wonder how long that takes?

If you ask vague unanswerable questions, like you just did here, that could be why.

I’ve noticed that villages news has lots of responses that are offensive to various people groups, yet is set up to cancel responses that break their obscure policies. Certain words will lead to a post being canceled. Also, as I recall, some names of businesses or references to web sites or quotations from web sites, especially if they include blue type (links to sites). It could be that you were asking questions from a site set up in a similar way. It can be hard to know what is allowed, and it can be frustrating. Ask us.

Why not post the clear question here? Seeing what was actually asked would help to figure out why it might have been blocked.

Some pretty exciting stuff.... :1rotfl: They have answered since i post in TOTV but still, only mods can see it. I dont believe the % they are telling me, its a cover up of some sort. Maybe someone with better googling skills could verify....

I know two Reddit Moderators.
One is named is Issy Cohen, the other is Abdul Sharif.
Reckon you had a 50-50 chance, but got wrong one!

Does not appear to be blocked at all. I can see a question, an answer, and two additional posts. I found it both through a search engine and by looking through r/Mattress. I'm not even a member and I can see it.

I suspect you mean start a new thread, not post because posting means commenting which you have been doing just fine.

Always remember to hit the submit reply button. If you want to start a new topic or thread it is a bit more complicated. Let us know if that is your issue.

Drakeswood 10-28-2023 02:16 PM

Check for a cheat sheet on Google search tips from your local library or online from a university library. The later publication date, the better as AI is changing even google very fast.

Personally I prefer the search engine “DuckDuckGo” to Google … just an aging librarian who cut her teeth in automation & internet searching
