R. I. P. Matthew Perry
Age 54, apparently in a hot tub, no sign of foul play.

Sorry to hear that apparently he had a hard life. May he rest in peace

Really so they did a toxicology report already?

Such a hard life.
Somebody paid him more money in a year than I made in a lifetime, just to play pretend on TV for a few years. We can only imagine the suffering that led him to write a book about his addictions and off himself in his hot tub. Poor baby. Meanwhile, Keith Richards finally kicked heroin in his 60's and turns 80 next year. Even after he hit the big-time, he spent the next 60 years continuing to create music that my great-grandkids will still be listening to. Neither one is a role model, but personally, I prefer the non-whiner who didn't quit doing things just because someone paid him enough to afford an addiction. |
Very sad. I just read that in his 40s he realized he had spent over half his life in rehab or in sober-living facilities. A painful life.

Is it so you can say "told you so", on the off chance it is confirmed? Or will you be back to apologize if it is ruled a cardiac event after playing pickleball for 2 hours? |

I don't envy bums who blow their wealth on their addictions and then whine about their good fortune. I envy men who do great things beyond my capabilities. But that's a whole other thing than jealously. |
Cause of death is allegedly drowning. How do you drown in a hot tub unless you are so drugged/boozed out that you don't realize that water is filling your lungs?
|
I liked the show (Friends), looked forward to seeing it every week and I was entertained by the whole cast. As for how they lived their lives, I could care less. Not my business, not my problem, to each his own.

I know this is terribly wrong timing. But, is it a good idea to exercise and over exert yourself for two hours then get in a hot tub? Doesn't your body need time to cool down? |

As for those who had such nasty things to say about him. His words, "The best thing about me, bar none, is that if an alcoholic or drug addict comes up to me and says, 'Will you help me?' I can say yes and follow up and do it," he said. "When I die, I don't want Friends to be the first thing that's mentioned. I want that to be the first thing that's mentioned, and I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that." |
Maybe a heart attack?

I can tell you for a fact that he stayed in that hot tub too long. I did the same thing when I was younger at a party. I had not even started drinking yet. They rented a hot tub and no one had even got in it yet so i saw my chance to get in it before anyone else. They were all in the house so I stripped down to my trunks and climbed in. Next thing I knew I was laying on the ground with screaming and someone pushing on my chest. They told me that a girl was on the deck and noticed that I was laying on the bottom of the tub! I ended up in the ER and never even found out her the girl was that saved my life. I limit myself to 15 minutes now in any hot tub.

A man, most probably a good man, has just passed away prematurely. His fame and fortune absolutely do not matter any more. Only sympathy for him, his family and friends should matter now.
To all you snarky people out there - please refrain from your nasty posts. If you can post nicely then please don't post at all. Find another activity to fill your sorry lives. |

As beautiful as life is, it can be very difficult at times and just suck at other times. We all have probably gone through very hard times. I see no benefit to attacking him for poor choices. I do not know what life threw at him, and if he screwed up, he ended up paying for it.
Try and make life a bit better for those you meet. |

What I don't get is why some want to chastise other peoples discussions in which they do not find interesting. Have you ever been to Reddit? You would have a field day there. |

I wasn’t much of a TV watcher in my younger days, so I had to look at YouTube to see what this show was all about. It looks like it was oriented as an edgy Gen Z thing. To me the whole show comes across as a bit defensive. The acting is pretty darn good though.

My daughter loves Friends! I prefer Seinfeld but enjoy watching some Friends reruns now and then. The entertaining frivolity, humorous situations and good feelings provide a nice break from RL.
