Has anyone owned or considering buying a Star Sirius battery golf cart?

Seemed like a rough ride compared to the Yamaha ride.

There are 1000's of them, in The Villages. They seem to be the new cart of choice, for the folks who don't want to deal with the legacy gasoline carts. They are built by JH Global Industries, who have been making electric vehicles for 30+ years. JH Global makes the vast majority of "shiny wheels" and other upgrades you see on Yamaha golf carts.


Sunshine Golf Carts in Ocala will sell you one, for about $3000 less than you have to pay to buy one in The Villages.

We recently bought a home in the Villages and when I was comparing the options for my golf car went with the Star Sirius. I love it. Back in NY we have a Polaris side by side and a quad we use on our property. So I didn’t purchase the Star golf cart because of the gas vs electric debate. I know from my own experience taking my gas powered vehicles the number one thing I had always wished for was for them to be quiet so I can hear and speak with my passengers easier. I test drove the Yamaha and all the other options and fell in love with the Sirius. Beyond it being quiet, it’s got excellent acceleration from a dead stop and climbing out of the tunnels, etc. I love the fact that it came with Cruise control for any long straights your driving, and garage door openers that are integrated into the car. I had a speaker bar installed that integrates with our mobile phones so we can listen to music and turn by turn directions. Without the noise of a gas engine, its bliss It was a bit pricier than the other carts, but after driving them all the Star was the clear winner for us. I truly don’t feel you would go wrong with whatever you choose. Riding around on a golf car is fun. :)

Took a brief look at one. looks like they have a beefier higher quality front suspension.

Get an electric Club Car. All the local repair services stock their parts so there is no delay in ordering them. Club Cars last forever. Mine is almost 24 years old and runs like new...actually better than new because way back then it had heavy lead acid batteries. I replaced them a few years ago with LiFePo4 batteries. Club cars are great carts!

I would choose the Star Sirius over the EZGO Elite...It's a better value and built as a true LSV. It also uses LFP battery technology which is a more durable cell structure than the other lithium technologies. The Star 210ah battery will go 80 miles.

No bigger room in any of,Yamaha ezgo,club, atomic, elite. Tried them all. Also so smooth compared to rental Yamahas ive been in. Whisper quiet, and go 80 miles. 3 locking compartments including an insulated frunk that holds 22lb turkey. I bought the best because I use it every day many trips and need comfort.

I have a 2011 Star cart which I converted to lithium 3 years ago. I couldn't be more pleased. Rides smooth, zero maintenance, easy to stow rear seats, and it looks great. It has the upgraded bucket seats.

Also regarding maintenance on the lithium battery, anyone or business beside villages golf cart perform this as a mobile service?

Not true. I got a 2023 Liberty Elite Duel Lithium in February for less than a Starr wanted for a four man front facing. I have taken it up to 60 miles on a charge and still have 15% left. It’s been a great cart…our guests love to go out in it.

I would not purchase any other brand of golf cart. It is superior in every way. The suspension is heavy duty. I have driven 70 miles and still had some charge remaining on the battery. It is simply the best golf cart I have ever owned/

In the interest of fairness & accuracy ...

I own a 2022 Star Sirius. In my opinion, it's the best value in Golf Carts. I think the ClubCar is very close, if they offer a Lithium Option, which they didn't a few years ago.

That said, they're are a a few issues to be aware of. The original 2021/2022 the rear Swing Arms are too weak and will break. I've had mine replaced with a "new and improved" Swing Arm, that Star came up with. I understand, they now have a 3rd version.

There have been a zillion complaints about the brakes squeaking and the Emergency Brake being tough to use ... your Dealer can adjust that. My cart is currently back in the shop, for a busted Spring in the back and we're waiting for parts that should arrive this weekend (it's been about 5 days).

From now on, I'm putting it in Turtle Mode when playing golf and not be so tough on the suspension, speeding over uneven fairways.

Just picked mine up last week. I really like it. The seats are fine for me because I'm tall (6'4") lots of headspace, but wife (5'4") may need something different for seating if she drives it much. Went for a drive from Dabney to Brownwood Paddock and round trip didn't use half the battery (210Ah lithium) and supposedly these batteries discharge the first half faster than the second half.
The drive was 40mins with the peddle to the floor (21-22mph), where safe, and yeah, car next time.... Sawmill is a breeze, but longer is just LONGER! The cart has tons of get-up-and-go, on the roads the cruise control is nice to have.

We may do different seats later, but no sense in buying something unless we know we want it.

I have a 2021 that I bought new in 2022....just went over 1100 miles. Had a 2021 gas Yamaha that I traded in and the rides are comparable. You can get some super plush seats with Yamaha that are great for riding in and for the most part STAR has them too.

As far as driving, it does sit taller than the Yamaha and the club car. For me it makes it easier to get in and out of. In my Yamaha I felt that my foot was pressed down almost below my knee on the accelerator pedal. Club Car is the worst in that arena. I think if I was taller than 6 foot that might be an issue.
With the STAR I have more than enough leg room.I've yet to encounter a tunnel it could not stay in its lane and make it thru.

I drive a constant 24mph most of the time. The acceleration is unbelievably fast!! You will get an honest 70 miles of range which is good for 99% of the travel in the villages. I live in Marsh Bend and routinely golf north of LSL with no issues, and The only downside is right now there are not a lot of accessories to blow your money on (maybe thats not a bad thing)

They had issues with the brake squeaking but that was repaired under warranty recall. I've heard about some issues with the front A arms breaking, but I'm told that is a warranty recall item also and if they do break STAR will replace them.

The lithium battery does not need any maintenance and should last at least 12 years with near-zero range degradation. You only need tire service and to wipe the windshield off once in a while.

The LFP battery chemistry is a pain to measure State-Of-Charge accurately since the battery voltage barely drops from 100-0 SOC. The ternary lithium chemistries have a larger voltage drop as they discharge. It is probably a safer bet to use the trip odometer rather than the fuel gauge :)

Club Cart now makes an extended range cart - Onward XR that should get 60 miles.
I think TVGC will service Club Car.

Reading about the broken suspension bits is disappointing. What tire pressure are you running? It should be set to about 20 PSI.

Unless something has changed in the last year, you'll find that the 1st "half" of the dash gauge will give you about 60% of your total range, the last 1/2 will give you 40%. Also, when the cart dies from a dead battery, you can probably re-start it after a few minutes and get another mile or 2 (don't ask how I know this).

Do NOT depend on the Star App for accurate battery charge information. The dashboard gauge is more accurate.

There is supposedly a tunnel up near Lopez that the Star Sirius roof will scrape on. I've been through it once, without a problem. There's another going under Morse Blvd, close to 466, where you have to be very careful to stay close to the center line ... you'll scrape, if you get too far right.

I don't like the way the cart handles with that low of a tire pressure. I'm at about 24, although I haven't checked recently.

Long term battery replacement
 

Nobody is talking about what’s going to happen when it’s time to replace your lithium battery. Even the dealers don’t have a plan or know future disposal costs.

The battery will start to lose performance after the 5-8 year warranty expires. You could get stuck with a very hefty disposal cost in addition to a new battery. I love the electric carts except there is that unknown hanging out there. Buyer beware.

My plan when my lithium battery dies, is to find a Tesla, break open the trunk and throw in my battery. All that lithium? Sooner or later, the whole thing will explode. At least according to what I read on this forum. End of story.

Looked at one. 21K and no curtains. Liked dash assembly in my Yamaha better as it protrudes out and has more storage space.

The 2023 models changed from bench seats, which were very impractical to adjust, to individual seats. We bought the 2022 in April 2022 and upgraded to the new seats when they came out. Much better seats.

They eliminated the uncomfortable "bar" on the sides of the seats, and replaced that with an armrest that swings up and down.

Quiet. Not smelly. Charges off 20 amp standard outlet in the garage. So no trips to gas station or worrying about what grade of gas to buy when you get there. No fluids to worry about leaking onto your garage floor, either.

Easy to clean. No oil/oil filter changes. No air cleaner.

You can add Bluetooth speakers easily for good sound from you mobile device.

I don't think you would regret the purchase.

I thought maybe the pressure was set to 40 PSI...Regardless, you should be able to put round rocks as wheels and not have the suspension bit break. If you run a high tire pressure, the bearings and joints wear out quicker due to shock loads. 24 PSI is fine.

I like the Yamaha layout better. Maybe Yamaha will put a larger lithium battery in their cart one day. 105ah is just not enough.
