How does this happen?

In my SPAM email today I had the following back-to-back-to-back:

1. "I enjoy having sex while people is (sic) watching"

2. "All I want from a man like you is honesty"

3. "New mini-chainsaw makes tree trimming 2 x faster"

...which led me to wonder "What kind of email list am I on???"

charlieo1126@gmail.com 12-22-2023 10:20 AM

I do not see why so many people on this site get worked up about junk emails , they mostly go to your junk mail setting on I phone , I usually just clear them at end of day , , one click of button and there gone .I think some people on here need to find another hobby that doesn’t include reading all those junk emails , if you end up thrashing an email that might not be junk , we’ll if it’s important someone will send another , chill out guys we don’t need to know about your latest boring junk mail scam message

7800+ in the last 22 days. That's a lot of SPAM to wade through, to find an email or 2 that may be important.

CarlR33 12-22-2023 10:30 AM

Some people look forward to these emails as I need a good laugh for the day!

I love Spam.
Without Spam I would have no communication with the outside world at all.
It's not all bad stuff either.
I have 17 Russian beauties as girl friends, 3 Nigerian Princes, helping me enhance my pension fund, and an evangelist who only charges me $10 a prayer!
Spam is great

Your sense of humor is refreshing1

Pro-tip: if you stop clicking on porn sites or photos of scantilly-clad women, you will get less spam.

I once mentioned spam regarding penile enhancements to my brother. He said to me, "I get emails talking about penile reduction. How do they know?"

But I like the pictures

Velvet 12-22-2023 12:29 PM

For about 2 weeks I got explicit porn photos of “Russian” women regularly on one of my emails. Then they stopped. Not sure why it started or why it stopped. I only order online from Amazon and Walmart.

villagetinker 12-22-2023 12:48 PM

The other possibility is you are a victim of one of the many recent data breaches and the spam providers now have your email address, NEVER click on the unsubscribe button, just add to your blocked sender list, I have hundreds on mine.

Arlington2 12-22-2023 02:59 PM

It is not just the porno sites you visit, but almost any online service/sales you subscribe to has sold your address. I understand there are big bucks in those free subscriptions. Buy you can download an email reader such as Mozilla Thunderbird. It has an adaptive junk mail capability to automatically redirect the crap to the junk folder. Further you can label an address as junk. Also you can set it up to automatically delete the junk mail after a number of days of your choosing in case you want to review those emails for fear of losing the millions from the Zambian prince. It works well with whatever email service you are using such as yahoo, gmail, comcast, etc. It doesn't make the junk emails go away, but it sure cleans up the regular inbox.

When you join something watch their notifications on third party sharing of information. Company's make money by allowing "share" lists onto their sites. A company selling "men's" product might be a good source list for the third party "sex" operation. it's all about profits.

I use to do the same thing but it took a lot of my time. Recently I went to my email service (Xfinity/Comcast) via the website and created filters for spam by identifying the server (xxxxxx.com part of the Spam mail’s address). Now I let Comcast filter any emails from that server. My Spam email per day dropped dramatically! I do the same for new spam addresses the sneak through. Life is much simpler now! Just go on your email server’s website periodically and permanently empty the Spam folder.

bjansson 12-23-2023 07:37 AM

Looks like your email has been "sold."

This happened to me about 10 years ago. My business address was through microsoft, which usually has a pretty good spam filter, but somebody sold my e-mail and within a week I was getting 900 pornographic emails per day and it wasn't slowing down. On my business e-mail. So I had to ditch that and get a new one.

What I've done ever since is have my business e-mail a paid for service like Microsoft and my personal e-mail a throwaway service like Gmail. For shopping etcetera I use the Gmail address. And I never mix the two. So if my Gmail gets sold I just throw it away and get another.

To manage them without having to go to two places download the outlook app and add them both in there you can see them both at the same time. It's been working for 10 years.

I didn’t know that you could order Russian women from Amazon and Walmart.

I get 'gently used' ones on eBay at a good discount!:icon_wink:

MrFlorida 12-23-2023 08:43 AM

When your order online and they ask for an email address, your info gets sold and you get the unwanted emails.

OhioBuckeye 12-23-2023 08:54 AM

Yes, & it’ll get worse, we might think Tik Tok has a lot of informative information on it & it’s from our Chinese friends, but can’t figure out why they banned Tik Tok from China, Don’t believe me, just ask someone that just came from China, I did because remember these people are coming over our border in Texas, & that’s where I live. So what your saying I believe!

Some of the unsubscribe links are really malware

Send messages you don’t want to junk or spam folders.

Sort by sender ... then all the junk aggregates in groups and it's much easier to find the 1 or 2 that may be important. Also, don't wait 22 days to do it.

CosmicTrucker 12-23-2023 09:39 AM

The sooner you accept the fact that spam is Not a personal attack the sooner you’ll be at peace with the unfortunate side of technology.

It’s Not personal! Click empty and delete all and move on.

bopat 12-23-2023 09:55 AM

Just a few tips:
- "unsubscribe" isn't what it means. To you it means "take me off the list". To them it means "we've got a live one here!" and you'll get more spam
- Just opening the email tells them they have a real person. Often the spam emails contain links that personally identify you, and when you just open the email to read it, your email reader fetches those links.

Roughly 2-3 bottles of Vodka a day.

FredJacobs 12-23-2023 11:52 AM

My personal rule is to never open SPAM Messages. These may contain viruses, trojan horses, etc. that begin to infect your computer immediately upon opening. Be safe - gather them together for as long as you want and then delete them without opening. If something does look interesting and may not be SPAM you can have your security software scan that particular email.

OMG! I'll have to get a membership account at ABC that gives discounts. Either that or go back to having hairy palms. What a dilemma.

Bwanajim 12-23-2023 12:21 PM

I’ve been clicking on “unsubscribe“ and I think I’m actually getting more spam. I quit doing that.

fdpaq0580 12-23-2023 01:47 PM

How I get rid of SPAM!

Thin slice. Fry till crispy. Plate with steamed rice and soft scrambled eggs. Drizzle soy sauce over everything.
Enjoy!

When you do want to order keep an eye on that day's Dollar/ruble currency exchange rate. If you time it right you can get some real bargains!

Another brain wave with NO sense of humor. People are making a real crisis out of this. Though true, the whole thing was meant to be mildly funny!
