Furs for sale

Needless to say, even with the cooler weather, furs are not necessary in Florida....Where do I go to sell?

hoseman 12-27-2010 09:53 AM

Or have them made into pillows for use all year long.

jebartle 12-27-2010 09:56 AM

I saw an article not to long ago about somebody who makes Teddy Bears out of old fur coats.

Just one of the examples. Do a google search on (fur coat teddy bears). Will surprise you.

Was just at a high end resale shop in Ocala a couple of weeks ago. They had furs for sale there!
Can't remember the name of it...it was on the north side of that main drag that the mall is on and not far from the Paddock Mall. Hope this helps!

Wife had a coyote parka and a vest that I had made for her from coyotes that I had shot back in Illinois 25 years ago. No one wants to give you what they are really worth so I took them to a seemstress and had a throw made out of them it looks great.

How about......

jebartle 12-27-2010 11:26 AM

have contacted

consignment shop, they have had great success selling to snowbirds...If no calls may go that route!...Thanks for all your help....Sure seems a waste to store coats when use in Florida is highly unlikely! Any reasonable offer will not be refused.

Mikitv 12-27-2010 01:07 PM

I know what you mean about trying to sell them. I had mink jacket with wool sleeves that was originally a mink stole and a silver fox three quarter jacket. Once we moved to Tenn and Ark I wore them maybe 5 times in 14 years. Tried to sell them different times with no success. Finally gave them to niece and friend back in Mich. Can always try E-bay or Craig's list.

raynan 12-27-2010 01:13 PM

Tried to sell a silver fox jacket before we moved here and the consignment shops didn't even want it because they had so many that were not moving. People are into faux fur now in the northeast. I also tried craigslist and ebay.....only interest I had was from a guy who bought furs to line custom guitar cases and a woman who made bears. My neighbor had the same trouble with a mink and a beaver coat. I finally let it go for $25 to the guitar guy. Better than paying storage for something I probably wouldn't wear again. I like the idea about making it a throw.

Let's hear it for faux fur..

I tried not to respond to this thread but here goes. Wearing fur is obscene and passe. Today we have faux fur that doesn't involve torturing innocent animals. It amazes me that women think they look attractive with dead pelts on their bodies.:yuck: Let the flaming begin.....

another Linda 12-27-2010 05:16 PM

eBay and Craig's list are good suggestions. You might also contact a northern consignment shop. One here in the Syracuse area is Skaneateles Fur Exchange. They don't have a website but you could google for a phone number. I understand they do a booming business. Might get a better price than you would in more southern climes.

jebartle 12-27-2010 05:25 PM

Dear Duffysmom

No flaming, I couldn't agree with you more BUT when it is a gift, that is given with the best intentions, it is really really hard to SLAM the gift giver! Especially when you love that gift giver with all your heart.... I have a faux fur also that I wear all the time now...Don't want you to egg me!!!

Pillows keeps said gift in the family plus allows usage that isn't controversial.

Obscene and passe is probably the reason there are so many people out there stuck with real fur jackets they cannot sell. Most people prefer to see the live animals in their natural environment rather than wear tiny pelts sewn together. It is a tragic waste of life, especially when you hear of those gaudy jackets being worn only a time or two by the recipient.

OK, now I'll step down from my soap box.

jebartle 12-28-2010 09:18 AM

All said and good

If and I repeat IF you apply this to your life...Do you eat meat, chicken, pork, fish...NO leather jackets, shoes, purses and the list goes on....Trust me, the ONLY reason I have the furs, is NOT because I requested them, I inherited two of them with much protest, and was given one as a gift...Tell me duffy's mom and julie, do you live in a glass house, watch out for those rocks!

Normally when I sense a kerfluffle on one of these threads I head the other way. I feel like the last thing I need from TV or TOTV is dissension.

That being said, I too want to ask that we back off jebartle. Sensibilities have certainly changed since we were younger and especially since our mothers' day. My French-Canadian MIL never thought there was anything wrong with owning a fur coat. If I had inherited her coat, would you have had me criticize her? How horrible and unfeeling!

duffysmom 12-28-2010 01:40 PM

Jebartle, please accept my apologies if you felt criticized by my note. As a younger woman I wore fur and never thought anything about it until later years and I became educated about the fur industry. I would hate to start the new year having caused discomfit in anyone especially someone who innocently asked a pertinent question about disposing of fur. It struck a nerve and I thoughtlessly responded.chilout By the way, I'm writing this note while sitting in my glass lanai on the lookout for rocks. Happy New Year!!!

jebartle 12-28-2010 01:54 PM

You are soooo cute!

:BigApplause:

Loved your note, apology accepted....You have a happy New Year also...
By the way, would you like to buy a fur....giggle....

From PETA website:

Donate Your Fur To PETA

Your old furs could save an animal's life—and gain you a tax deduction!

Now that winter is over, instead of putting that outdated fur back into storage or shoving it into the back of your closet for another year, why not make the compassionate choice to live a fur-free lifestyle? Your tax-deductible donation of unwanted fur coats and stoles helps with our educational displays and anti-fur "fashion shows" and provides bedding for needy animals.

Your unwanted furs may also help people in need. Because of the vast number of furs that we receive, we donate many of them to homeless people who can't afford to buy their own coats—the only people who have any excuse to wear fur. Every year, PETA holds a few "fur kitchens" at homeless shelters around the country, and we've even shipped hundreds of furs to help warm the women and children freezing in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Your donation will be tax deductible. Clean your closet—and clear your conscience—by simply mailing your unwanted furs to:
