Just received January bill: $46 increase over December. Who else serves The Villages (Collier)?

Babubhat 01-10-2024 04:08 PM

You need to negotiate with them. Rates have limited term. Annoying process. Can try Spectrum. Should be a promotional new sign up rate

Did your contract expire so that they switched you to month-to-month, and you lost your contract discounts? If so, you need a new contract. This happens to a lot of Xfinity customers because they don't know when their contract expires.

Stu from NYC 01-10-2024 04:15 PM

We are very done with them.

Bogie Shooter 01-10-2024 04:49 PM

Go to their store in Lady Lake and discuss with them.
Very helpful to me in the past.

Bill14564 01-10-2024 05:06 PM

Mine increased only $9 but I have their lowest tier of service. I found the personnel in the Lady Lake store very helpful when I turned in my equipment and canceled my service (though it hasn't come off my bill yet).

$9 isn't much but it was the principle of the thing. The service was good but the value was questionable before the increase. I suppose I could have tried negotiating but I shouldn't need to do that.

Thank you, I was about to report them for elder abuse. A promotion agent called me in December talked for half an hour - after I said over and over I do not want to change my plan. He said an add on would be free my total bill would be xx. Well, come January and my total bill is twice xx. And a service was added I never use. I called them on the Jan 3rd, yadda, yadda, for 2 hours they said everything was fixed.

Looked again today, NOTHING was fixed. Another 3 hours on the phone, they keep giving a phone number to call that either puts you in a loop or hangs up on you. After escalating finally someone calls back, again promises to fix my plan and bill and I’ll see it in 48 hours. So I am waiting. Everything is documented, you know me, exschool teacher, email and voice recording. Hopefully, it is fixed. We will see. The suggestion to go to the store is excellent. Lesson learned. Be VERY careful when dealing with Xfinity!

gatorbill1 01-10-2024 06:47 PM

You need to negotiate with them every time your contract runs out. Mine only went up $15 with faster internet.

huge-pigeons 01-11-2024 06:04 AM

You think xfinity is the only company that does this? Do you negotiate when you buy a car? When you call or go in to negotiate, have an offer from another carrier in your back pocket so if you can’t negotiate to the terms you want, then cancel on the spot and take the offer you have in your back pocket.
If you have a verbal offer, it means nothing. If your bill goes up after a promotion, you needed to work out a deal a month before you expiration date so you wouldn’t have been surprised, in writing. I chatted online with xfinity when they promised me a special rate after the promotion and I have the whole chat in writing so if anything changed, I would have brought up our chat.

arbajeda 01-11-2024 06:13 AM

Check Quantumfiber.com. Also, look at YouTube TV to replace Xfinity cable. We switched and saved over $100.00 per month.

bobeaston 01-11-2024 06:20 AM

Standard "business as usual" practice!

All internet and TV service providers do exactly the same thing. They offer service at an attractive starting rate, and some months later (3?, 6?, 9?, 12?) raise the price to their "Normal" service rate. When asked, they will advise you that the initial discounts or coupons, or whatever else they call them have expired. That's simply the way it works. Standard for the Cable TV / Internet service industry.

Depending on the level of competition in the area, you might be able to get those discounts renewed simply by asking. "Up north" I used to keep a date on my calendar to call the service provider once a year before the annual expiration date and ask for a renewal.

Your choices are limited ... by law. Back at the start of the Cable TV industry, service providers sought a legal mechanism to, on one hand, help them build out their network, and on the other hand, protect themselves from overwhelming competition. Our "fine" US Congress did exactly that by enacting a law that limits any area (usually a county) to no more than 2 service providers. Since The Villages exists in parts of 3 counties, you will find as many as 6 providers advertised, but not all of them will be available in your neighborhood.

For those who think monopolies are part of our free enterprise system, think again. Monopolies are always enabled by our government. This is only one small example.

Att internet air

Here is something that nobody is talking about. It runs off the cell towers. It’s dependant on your location and address. It’s 35$ a month. I was skeptical so I installed it. I have Xfinity also while I test this out. I have had it for 12 days and so far it works perfectly. I will cancel X in the near future. I have a large villages house with 4 TVs 2 IPADS, 2 cell phones , 3 Alexa’s , laptop, camera, and more. They all run perfectly at the same time.

No fiber, no coax. It’s a plug and play router which is nice looking. 35$ vs 99$ for X.

biker1 01-11-2024 07:07 AM

Quantum Fiber (aka CenturyLink) and Spectrum are available in your area. Also, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile might be offering 5G-based internet access. I can't speak to the quality of the 5G based access.

MSchad 01-11-2024 07:16 AM

I also got tired of ‘renegotiating’ xfinity contract. Went with quantum fiber. Speeds are 3x the best I ever got from xfinity and cost is flat $50 and no contract no promo.

Shoogley 01-11-2024 07:24 AM

Nicksfinity? I have 3 accounts

3 accounts
For the same person
For the same address
From 8th December 2023 to 7 th January 2024
$62…..$0.62…..$29.95
And I do not have Xfinity internet service or phone.

Footer 01-11-2024 07:37 AM

I have Internet only, lowest tier, and got the $9 increase. The service increase was only $4. The discount for Autopay by credit card was reduced from $10 to $5, hence the $9 difference. I just switched from credit card to bank account for Autopay to get the $10 discount again so next month I will only see the $4 increase to $56. Not worth switching service over $4.

I just bought a new house in Dabney and it came preinstalled with Centric Fiber. I bought the unlimited 1000 GB plan for $65 a month and am pleasantly surprised at how good the internet is! I work on a computer 10 hours a day and am a heavy bandwidth user. Speedtest.net is showing 350 to 500 WIRELESS which is phenomenal! The only internet I've had that came even close to that was manually connecting to the modem with a cable.

So far very happy (and impressed) with Centric Fiber.

Gunny2403 01-11-2024 07:45 AM

Xfinity sent me a letter a month in advance of my 5$ price increase. I’m fine with it. Thanks to Joe, everything costs more.

Shoogley 01-11-2024 07:50 AM

Xfinity …..shameless.

There's a difference. Shameless means like, brazen. The person has no shame about what he or she is doing. Shameful means that, to an outside observer, usually, the act should inspire shame.

PGApromike 01-11-2024 07:52 AM

Centric. Fastest, great customer service, reliable. $65/mo 1gig speed. All equipment included, no extra fees. I'm a user, not sales person. Living in Newell.

We use Quantum ($60/month for internet access only), then see what you like. We just use YouTube to watch news clips. If you want ABC, CBS, CNN, etc. you can signup for YouTube TV, dishNet, etc separately without needing a satellite dish.

Contact me and I'll show you how to cut the cable and save at least $125/mth and have all the channels you get on cable. Over 250 customers in the villages.

Here is some advice for everyone with any contract with a provider. Mark your calendar for the date you are scheduled to renew. Call a week before and negotiate with them. Ask for any new promotion. I just did this last week with XFinity. Instead of the close to $50 increase I would have been hit with, I am now paying $8 more than last year. I can do that and I don’t have to go elsewhere. I do the same thing with SiriusXM every year. But you must call before you automatically renew. Good luck.

They keep you as a customer because negotiation of rate increases is possible.
They lost me as a customer because negotiation of rate increases is necessary.

Another vote for Quantum and YouTubeTv.

Hans53 01-11-2024 09:06 AM

same with me and they wouldn't negotiate. went to spectrum after 40 years with xfinity

I have xfinity phone service and internet. My internet costs $46/month for blast.I do have to call every year and renew otherwise the cost goes up to $65. I get this rate because i have 2 services with them. There cell coverage runs off of verizon network and we never have a problem. It costs $60 for 2 lines unlimited data. Can't really do better than $106/month for phone and internet.

Pachine58 01-11-2024 09:31 AM

Mine with Xfinity went up by 45 dollars. Called to negotiate and no luck this time. In the North we have no other options for a provider.

$46 increase for what? I have a yearly contract, own my own modem and my bill is always the same. Internet service only.

Is $106 your bottom line payment or is that the charge before fees and taxes?

My $56/month Xfinity internet service actually cost $77 and my $90 AT&T service cost $126. My new service for both internet and phone should be $130 with fees and taxes included but I haven't seen the first bill yet so I don't know that nothing more will sneak in.

Quantum Fiber

We have Quantum Fiber here, $30 month for life. 200 Mbps. Wasn’t sure the 200Mbps would run all my devices, 4 TVs, 4 ring cameras, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 4 Alexia devices. No problem. If you need more the next option is $50 month for life for 500 Mbps

I should add that you go to the T-Mobile store in The Villages, they will give you a modem, plug it in and you will know immediately if it will work for you.
If there is a cell tower in your area you are in business. Auto pay $55 month. Unlimited speed depending on your location. I've had mine for six months no probs.

Finally a couple of people that actually answered the question. Unfortunately Quantumfiber.com or Spectrum are not available north of 441, I don't know about other locations.

We just did the same thing and all good so far. My Xfinity bill went up about $40 and I was told when I called to renegotiate, there was nothing available and was told to call back in a few weeks and/or look onsite. Been renegotiating since we moved here 3 years ago and just over it. We have so many neighbors that just roll with it.

jrref 01-11-2024 10:49 AM

You can re-negotiate all you want. They just raised rates because they have to pay more for content. It's out of their control. Even if you have a "special" deal, you still got a raise.

Best to switch to Quantum Fiber if you can get it and stream all your content. This way you only pay for what you want and don't have to worry about this yearly re-negotiation with the cable companies.
