cable and internet

I think that I have only one provider for internet and that is xfinity. I live in Del Mar.

I am trying to cancel cable and have only internet service. They just quoted me $97 a month!!!

May I ask what others are paying for internet only?

Talk about being held captive!

I posted about slow internet last month, that got over my head.
I really apperciate any help that I can get.

I have Xfinity internet and pay $50 a month. The first month was about $100 because of installation.

Keefelane66 01-10-2024 07:44 PM

Quantum Fiber 200mbs $30 monthly taxes included strickly stream tv no buffering 3 tv’s

Rainger99 01-10-2024 07:55 PM

I just went to Xfinity website. The most expensive internet is 1.2 gigabytes for $85 a month and the cheapest is 75 mbps for $20.

That is for internet only.

If you get add ons such as phone or cable, the price will go up.

Exact same thing for us, signed up for it last fall. Sure as $hit, I’ll have to argue with them to keep the price from skyrocketing when the contract expires. We also have both Netflix and Prime for streaming through our Roku soundbar, as well as our trustworthy antenna for lots of free Television from the Orlando area.

Keefelane66 01-11-2024 09:12 AM

Unfortunately, Fiber is not possible so only DSL is available in your area

Babubhat 01-11-2024 09:42 AM

I have seen xfinity as low as 25 a month for one year of 75 speed. Call and say too much a few times. Babble cost of living too high, senior fixed income, etc. They will come down. The marginal cost to them is minimal.

Agents get demerits for losing a customer. Likely a foreign call center reading from a script

biker1 01-11-2024 09:56 AM

You might want to look into the 5G cellular based internet access offerings from AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

Thank you,

I spent 1hr 50min at Xfinity. Can’t explain what I got, but will cancel cable and go to xfinity NOW tv. No contracts so will give it a try. Also switched from ATT phone to xfinity (Verizon) and saved a lot. No contracts, supposedly forever prices.

Thanks for the replies. Only have xfinity available so hope I got the best with what I have.

Thanks again.

This. At the very least, if you don't like it, you come back to xfinity as a "new customer" and get a good new customer deal.

That is incorrect. The Village of Del Mar has cable internet. I just checked a random vacant home in that neighborhood, and found the options someone else mentioned above:

75mbps for $20, 200mbps for $35, 400mbps for $55, and 800mbps for $70. There's also 1GB for $80 and 1.2GB for $85.

None of those are DSL service.

I think they meant DSL is the only option apart from cable/Xfinity.

Dusty_Star 01-11-2024 06:13 PM

I have Quantum Fiber. It looks like they are offering two plans, one for $50 & one for $75. You go to their website & check if it is available at your address.

I have the lower level plan & it is wonderfully fast.

Get Blazing Fast Fiber Internet for Your Home or Business

Do you have your own equipment (modem and router)? That price may aLao include ‘renting’ the Xfinity equipment.

You might be able to get centurylink also but they are expensive too

Blackbird45 01-13-2024 05:22 AM

Before you decided which company you're going to sign up with, figure what speed you will need.
This will determine what you will be paying no matter what company you sign up with.

Quantum Fiber provides all equipment, modem, router + extenders, for free. Install is free and it is fiber to the house. I have the $50 per month plan (500mps) and all I paid was $50 for the first month and every month after, had it for about 5-6 months and it's been great. FYI, it is a subsidiary of CenturyLink.

Nell57 01-13-2024 07:03 AM

Google T-Mobile home internet and check HOME AVAILABILITY.
If available at your address, their wifi plan is $50….locked in for life. Plenty of bandwidth, unless you are a gamer. If your phones are T-Mobile the cost is even less.
it just became available at my address this week. They mailed me the equipment with EASY installation instructions. I hooked up 3tvs, 2 iPads, 2 phones and my thermostat in 45 minutes.
Verizon has a similar plan.
They are breaking the monopoly that The Villages provides to Centurylink, Spectrum, Xfinity.
If the Availability test says that services are not available at your address, check back in a few weeks.
I was watching T-Mobile and Verizon for about a year before one of their services finally opened up to me.

symc655@gmail.com 01-13-2024 07:14 AM

Negotiate

I came to the villages in 2019 and I have xfinity. I have been paying $40 monthly for wifi since then. You have to speak their language. I have auto pay too. I told them I have my own router/modem and I want the starter package. It buffers sometimes when I am streaming but I have my own equipment. Tell them you are a senior on a fixed income.

I pay $65 for 940 mbps with CenturyLink over fiber, never had a problem… except when my neighbors landscaper cut my fiber line (yes, it ran across the corner of her property due to trees in the way) and CenturyLink gave me a $20 credit for the outage… guess expensive is in the eye of the beholder, this is cheap to me.

Check with spectrum - check on line to see if they are in your area. I just switched from Xfinity to spectrum this week for $29 per month for 2 years and speed went from 300-500. brought over my cell phone as well later because of special they are offering I get it free cell service for a year. They use the Verizon towers.

You had to go through the door to door sales rep to get the promotion. His name is Lysander and his cell is: 352-239-3538. He focuses on homes that are two years old and ready to get rid of Xfinity (internet service only). He even helped me do the cell phone switch from AT&T.No glitches at all and was surprised how easy it was. I’m sold if you can’t tell. My Xfinity was $60 a month and rising to $81 in February! My phone was $54 a month. They made it easy for me to switch. Good luck!

We have Quantum Fiber, and our quite happy with it however, since it’s not available in your area, T-Mobile and Verizon have totally wireless Wi-Fi offerings, low monthly, no contracts

I have Xfinity and my wifi only service went up to $117 a month for 800 mbps speed. My wife works from home and we stream everything so we need the fast speed. Lysander from Spectrum stopped me when I was in front of my house and quoted me $40 for 1000mbps with autopay. I called up Xfinity to cancel and now I will pay $35 for 1000mbps if I switch my two phone lines from Verizon to Xfinity. I'm paying $160 a month for the two phones (high data plans) with Verizon and that would drop to $60 with unlimited data with Xfinity. Spectrum is offering the same $30 per phone service. I'm going to stick with Xfinity as I've had them for 2 years now and never had an issue with their internet service. I'm hoping their cell service is as good. They supposedly use Verizon towers and Spectrum does the same.

I have T Mobile. I pay $40 because i also have them for phone. Warning: their site said it was not available in my area. I went to the store in Southern Trace and got it. No problems.

Cable costs in our area

I am in the same area as you and now pay Xfinity $96/mo for medium speed. Century Link at 50 mbps is our only other option right now! I have checked with all others - they are not in our area "yet". Maybe we should both call Xfinity & say we are seniors with fixed income. We pay $65 for the same in Illinois.

I have xfinity and a cable connection to my home. How do other providers get service to your home?

huge-pigeons 01-13-2024 11:53 AM

I pay $85 for 1.2Gb of unlimited internet only, and that includes the $15 monthly cost of their router.
A month before anything expires, you should be trying to get another service or negotiate with your current provider, this is life.

We considered this awhile back since we’re T-Mobile customers already, but couldn’t find any info that gave exact speed numbers, like 300, 500, or 900, etc. Do you actually know what their upload/download speeds are? This is important to us. We currently have Spectrum internet at 300/20, and are paying $73/month. We are using their equipment, but we just installed our own router so will return their router, but we’ll still need their modem. Theres no doubt in my mind the price will go up after we’ve been with them 2 years.

Unfortunately, Quantum fiber isn’t in our area yet.

ldj1938 01-13-2024 01:23 PM

Speed test

Just type in "SPEEDTEST"
You should see if t-mobile works where you live.
I have had up to 800mbs. Depends on traffic load.
If you are a t-mobile customer it's $50/month. Unlimited everything.

You are really getting diddled!! T-Mobile modem is free.
