Wisconsin's Weather

Sub-zero temperatures,
Shoveling snow, Salty cars, High heating bills, No Thanks. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...07407379_n-jpg |
Snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing, tubing, ice skating, and snow boarding. Wisconsin was a winter playground for Chicago area people.
|
I love Wisconsin.............but only in the summer.
|
Spent 10 or so winters there. But only a part of the one of 1969 as we were travelling to Apache Junction, AZ for two weeks or so in the sun. And then through Las Vegas and eventually to Reno, Nevada in January of 1970.
|
the reason we moved from Wisconsin to Florida is the winter weather and cost of living. No brainer for us.

I spent 40 years in western NY. The winters in Wisconsin are probably colder and longer than in western NY, but I like to say we have beautiful Springs in New York. We just have to wait until late June to get them.
|
Minnesota is a bit colder than Wisconsin in the winter, but Wisconsin gets a LOT more snow, with Lake Superior to the north and Michigan to the east. I have a brother in Campbellsport, WI who routinely gets hit hard with snow. He has a rather long driveway (200 yards, maybe) and had to buy a small tractor to keep it plowed.

The winters are beautiful, the snow is so white and glistens on the trees when you walk outside and you can hear a pin drop it's so quiet after a major snowfall. We decided to sell our home up there and move full-time to The Villages 2 years ago. Well...exactly one summer down here and we went right back up to Wisconsin and bought another summer place to snowbird to. The heat and humidity here in summer is beyond horrendous, the grounds and flowers shrivel up and die, and your skin feels like your searing in a fry pan the very minute you walk outside ! I will take a Wisconsin winter any day over a Florida summer if I had to. We are retired, don't care if the snow plies up outside. Everybody and thier mother has plows and shovels and we never stayed snowed in for more than 3 hours after a really hard snowfall. And we always owned snowmobiles in case of an emergency if we had to get out. |
To the best of my recollection I have undoubtedly flown over but have never set foot in the state of Wisconsin. I know some nice people from Wisconsin and am sure parts of the state are quite beautiful at various times of the year but I would not want to spend any time there during the colder months as I prefer to spend as much of my time as possible in warm sunny places. Attending the Oshkosh fly-in would be fun!

I lived in the N.Y. I once did a job in Internation Falls Minnesota in February on a frozen lake.
Given the choice I would rather live in a warmer climate than a cold. If I ever do get the desire to revisit my past I climb into my refrigerator, I'm sure that will bring me back to reality. |

Like I tell my children up North, "the only snow I want to see is on a Christmas card." I'll move back North, ONLY when global warming makes it as nice as Florida, at least ten months a year.
|
True. lol. I will take two months of heat when I can still go outside and get my mail in the morning and have beautiful evenings or go swimming versus sitting in a house for six months. Minnesota summers have some “hot” ones too. Plants have zones for a reason.

When I first got here I rented in Chitty Chatty one of those new places that did not have a lanai. Every night when the sun went down I got chased in the house |

Anyone sitting in their home for six months is lazy. No friends? No cultural events? No planned activities or workout centers? No family? No volunteering? Shoveling snow, why? A service can be hired for that and it’s far cheaper than lawn care in The Villages. Wisconsin is terrible, lol. Everyone is encouraged to move to Florida and particularly The Villages. We’ll get the word out. |

Some call Minocqua "Little Chicago" and rumor was the city counsel was run by the mafia. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...1&d=1705512905 |

That’s a Chicago rumor, they like to think every state is corrupt as they have experienced there. |
When it comes to choosing between the North and Florida, just think if everyone wanted to
live here, or everyone wanted to live up north how crowded one or the other would be. I have family up North that wouldn't even consider living in Florida and think I'm nuts. They fish, hunt, snowmobile, summer gardening, boating, and love the change of seasons. I say : "To each his own." |

What I did find is that the native born Michiganders never got cold, loved the skiing, sledding, skating, etc. I loved Michigan in the summer but I just never got used to the winters. I'll take 6 months of heat here over November through March in Michigan. And I'm not a lazy person. Just didn't like twenty minutes of gearing up in cold-weather clothing every time I wanted to go outside for something. |
Maybe we need more global warming. Electric cars not fairing too good in sub zero weather, can’t run heater and get very far. Plus charge times are way up. Can’t park them outside cold drains them. Not my words see

When I get homesick for my Wisconsin roots, I just walk out in our laundry room.........https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...1&d=1705520151

As said earlier, there is something for everyone but relocated Florida residents seem to keep rationalizing why they moved. I say enjoy whatever floats your boat. It will not bother Northerners, even part time, to encourage people to move to The Villages. |
