No Boundaries

Went to the doctors office in Villages Hospital yesterday and noticed signs saying that physical and verbal abuse of staff will not be tolerated.

Went to Publix. Dodged the golf cart driving the wrong way in a one way lane. Observed all the carts and cars parked in the fire lanes.

In the store, a woman ate a few cherries. Spit the pits in her hand. Put the pits back in the bag of cherries and walked away. I brought this to the attention of the front desk so they could find this nasty bad of cherries and throw them away. Nothing was done.

Another man was walking through the store happily eating grapes from a bag. The bag was half empty. Wonder who will pay for the bag of grapes that he ate.

What is wrong with the Villagers?

The same thing that is wrong with the population of any town or city in the USA. There will always be thiefs, rude people, liars, and drunks. Did you think moving here would insulate you from the normal world? Unfortunately, this IS the new normal.

I guess it is a matter of lived experiences, and everyone's is apparently not the same. I have found The Villages and Villagers to be awesome. Our Villages has a Whats App to keep communication going between neighbors, a web page, and AED's paid for by donations and volunteers to save lives. People here are friendly and helpful. Most people seem happy to me. I guess there may be exceptions to the rule everywhere, but there seem to be fewer exceptions here than the places I've been. Good luck, I hope your experience improves, there is far more good than bad here. And that's honest, I'm not drinking any Kool-Aid.

I can understand physical and verbal abuse at The Villages Hospital, what a worthless emergency department. Thank God there are other choices now for emergency aid.

Moving to villages is not going to change persons behavior or person habits.

Not saying it didn't happen, but I would love to know the whole story.

It happened all the time in my office. Patients became belligerent if they didn't get their way (appointment time, financial issues, etc). Receptionist would try to gently explain the reality, and after repeating herself for the fifth time, would lose her cool. You can only take so much. Staff should not need to tolerate swearing, threats, etc.

"We" haven't "become" anything in particular. Some people lack humanity. I blame their parents for neglecting to teach it to them.

Normally, I can understand the frustration of staff with an abusive individual, but to get baited to the same tactics only makes matters worse. If the individual becomes abusive, invite them to leave (with the help of security or police, if necessary). Printed sign at the ready. "Speak softly or your appointment will be canceled immediately!"

I'm appalled about the cherry pits being put back in the bag. Who does that? Then.......nothing was done by Publix? Are you sure about that? I'm so disheartened.

Very sad, but people are disgusting. They will point it out in others, but can't see it in themselves.

mtdjed 01-25-2024 11:19 PM

Went to Aldi's today. Was offered a cart from a patron in the parking lot. I didn't need it but offered to take it back to the cart storage and gave it to a lady who was needing a cart. Patron could have assumed I was after a free quarter.

Got in line and was offered a chance to move ahead because of my small order. I said thanks but I'm in no hurry.

Did I try a grape before I bought 2 lbs.? Yes. Did I offer to pay for it? No. Do I feel guilty? No. Cannot imagine someone buying grapes without trying one. Hope no one saw me on camera.

That's life.

csricksdds1 01-26-2024 05:38 AM

Sometimes people see what they're looking for?

Two Birds were flying across Florida - one bird saw all the beautiful plants and flowers and the other saw all the dead, sick and diseased animals. One was a hummingbird and the other a vulture....I guess one sees what they're looking for??

One of the natural laws of life is the "Law of Increase" which says: [I]"What we put the energy of our thoughts into will increase!" I see a lot of beauty and nice people here in The Villages and try to ignore the exceptions.

Guess too many uncouth and inconsiderate newcomers are moving here from places where this kind of stuff is acceptable or commonplace. One can only hope they will eventually go back where they came from or embrace the Village way of life

msilagy 01-26-2024 06:20 AM

They are entitled.....period. Sadly their behavior is nothing to be proud of in many cases. The demands and entitlement is higher in the senior population. A pharmacist lady that worked in Jewel/Osco up north across from a Del Webb witnessed this for over 17 years. She finally was transferred to a family neighborhodd and there is a world of difference in the way the customers act. She is a very good friend. That's proof enough for me as she is a very kind person! So glad she is much happier in her new pharmacy.

Dlbonivich 01-26-2024 06:23 AM

The whole world has changed. I hear about the Villages hospital wait times and wonder where these people had better service. There are a shortage of people for every profession and a huge shortage in healthcare. It is the new normal

It's not just the Villages what is wrong with America... people are becoming ruder by the day .. look around the entire country not just the villages .. remember it is winter bird season ..

The Bahamians have a saying, “You forgot your Brought-Upsees”, meaning you forgot how you were raised. Seems to me that many people here in TV have.

This sort of behavior has no borders.

Narcissism is now a medical disorder according to medical experts. (‘it’s not their fault; it’s a disease’)

Narcissistic personality disorder - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

Reason is out of favor. Anger and outrage are perceived as a means of gaining power over others. Many people see it on social media and mainstream media, and adopt anger and outrage tactics and language themselves. Not everyone. Many. It’s now cultural.

Quit living your privileged life where you think you can physically or verbally abuse people because something doesn’t go to the same way as your self anointed high standards. That is why America is the way it is today.

Go someplace else then! I've always found if you arrive in an ambulance you are taken care right away and with care. Walk ins take their chances, maybe because of past BS. Still NO excuse to abuse people. Take your business elseware.

I was in ER several months ago at the Villages hospital for chest pain. Excellent service. Spent the night for observation and the rooms are 1st class. The nurses were awesome. The new cath lab was outstanding. After some stents I was treated with awesome care. UF has taken over and is doing a great job. I was hesitant at first after all the bad mouthing of the ER. The ER on 44 in Brownwood is also excellent.

part Kool-Aid.... Here is what appears to be a village that has a What'sapp..... you may be communicating between neighbors, but as a cybersecurity guy, that's a very very nice hole you guys opened up to personal information.

with that said... it pretty much is why there is kool-aid in your statement. One thing I can count on from the Villagers is a complete lack of security.

ROCKETMAN 01-26-2024 08:06 AM

With 151,000 residents you’re going to find many odd ball things occurring like the husband and wife tied up and robbed the other day. Nothing in daily sun of course. I have worked at publix for 18 years and occasionally see customers munching on stuff before they checkout. Funniest thing I have seen is taking some jumbo eggs and putting them in the large eggs.

I find it interesting that people now seem to be using the word “entitled” to mean the opposite of what it actually means. The dictionary says it means “ having the right or permission to do something.” It means if you are entitled to something that it is your right.

I think “self entitled” might be a better way to get your point across.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

You didn’t give the lady who gave you the cart a quarter? That’s Aldi courtesy! 😳

If everyone had your elitist entitled attitude, when 2000+ people a day walk through the Publix produce department and sampled the grapes, there would be no grapes left. If you can do it, means EVERYONE can also do it which serious elitism.
