Google Maps updates for new roads
I am building a new home in Moultrie Creek and I see that Google maps does not show any of new roads in this area. How often does Google maps update for new roads in The Villages?

Waze is always one of the first to get new roads. There is even a feature in Waze that allows you to add roads and addresses. When our villas were first built, none of our roads were on any maps. I added all of our roads and several of our addresses here so we could get deliveries.

Use The Villages map app. It's great and it's free. (don't use the other map service.....it always has issues) If you are giving guests directions.......have them use the app or go the old fashion route, give directions. |

I live in DeLuna where we had the same issue in early 2022 when we had just moved in. Our street was hard to find by delivery companies since most of our neighborhood wasn't on Google Maps. We ended up going into Google Maps on web and added our streets manually and Google accepted them within a week or even a couple days in some cases. Eventually ourselves and a few others added all of the streets within a month or two. I'll attach a link where you can do this.

When I first moved into St. Johns in May 2022 we weren't on the google map. Deliveries weren't a problem Amazon somehow located my house. I used the UF Health clinic as my google map base to get back home. I think the main street of Okahumpka appeared first. Our streets appeared in google about 2 months later.

Use either The Village App (free) or The Villages GPS App (inexpensive); both available in the google play store and updated regularly, both work well. |

Waze or villages app or guess what you can edit google map and add streets to you - I did

I’ve sent your question to my son, who works for google maps.
|
When we first moved in, our village was brand new. None of our streets were on Google Maps, but they were all in Waze. The delivery drivers knew this, and we had no problems getting deliveries. It took Google about 6 months to catch up. As one poster mentioned, Google owns Waze (acquired around 2013), but it takes Google Maps a little longer to roll out new streets, as that product is somewhat more robust. As an example, Google Maps offers offline navigation, which Waze does not.

I remember when we first moved here, our street was not on Google maps. Within Google maps, there's a way to submit a new location. I did that a couple times. I'm not sure if that sped things up or not. At the bottom of the app home screen, press "Contribute."

Send your coordinates to their Twitter account. The more people that report, the faster they update

Anyone can add to Google maps.
I add streets, new buildings and restaurants frequently to Google maps. It is easy to do once you find the contribute link in Google maps.

Google maps seems to have problems here in Florida. Both updates and correct directions. Every time we go to the Orlando airport we miss an exit coming back because it tells to go west on an exit that's supposed to be east. Sometimes it tells us north to go south and vice versa. We noticed the same behavior in Texas. But New York seemed to be really good, even in the city. Maybe with all the construction and new roads it gets confused? Not sure how to submit corrections to google maps, it sure would be nice to have those things updated.

Waze is faster because its data is crowd sourced vs Google relying on satellite and robotic cars. They rely on users actual movement for traffic speed etc and their data is much faster / more real time because of this. Same for the road info. As someone mentioned, both Waze and Google maps are owned by Google, but different divisions. We recently moved into Lake Denham and only had one initial issue with UPS due to their systems, and it was quickly fixed as folks manually entered addresses into the systems.

I can see that the streets in the village of Lake Denham are mostly there but some are unlabelled, someone should compare to the map on the Villages app and update Google with the proper streets names. Add a missing road to the map - Local Guides Help |
