Looking for an Ophthalmologist- not an optometrist

I have conditions that I'd like treated by an Ophthalmologist. Anyone here Love theirs?

Thanks!

retiredguy123 02-07-2024 04:45 PM

Lake Eye, Dr. Shelby Terpstra

Florida Retina Institute, Dr. Jaya Kumar

I have seen and can recommend both of these doctors

Ocala Eye has a large staff of ophthalmologists in various subspecialties as well as generalists, other docs as well. We are very grateful for Ocala Eye. They have 2 offices in TV and one in the south will open soon.

Depending where you live, Mid Florida Eye Center has several locations with one on 5743 Williamsburg Lane near the intersection of Hwy 44 and Buena Vista. Very handy for the newer areas of TV. They have many other locations too. You can look them up online. I see Dr. Pieschke there. I like him a lot. He's the best communicator of medical issues and procedures I have encountered.

Yikes. Not downin' you for your recommendation, but They have mostly 1 star reviews for an average of 2 stars. OCALA EYE - 21 Reviews - 1950 Laurel Manor Dr, The Villages, Florida - Optometrists - Phone Number - Yelp

We normally see Dr Charles here and would recommend him but have seen Dr Pieschke on occasion and have a very favorable impression. However thinking he is optometrist.

You are right, my mistake. Dr Pieschke is an optometrist, not an opthamologist.

Dr. Licht over at Brownwood answers my questions the way I answered *my* patients' questions. Much appreciated. *And*, the efficiency with which that operation is run puts to shame the office I left in Fort Lauderdale. Interestingly, he grew up in Ocala.

I’ve been going to Dr Ram (Ramchandra) for several years and he is great. Would highly recommend him.

Dr. Pieschke is an Optometrist, not an MD - ophthalmologist. I see Dr Panzo there. He is a glaucoma specialist.

I was a patient at Ocala Eye for 10 years. I started with Dr. Vish and was switched to an optometrist because Dr. Vish does not do contact lenses. Had cataract surgery with the cornea specialist. I have a condition requiring my eyes be checked every 6 months to a year, and when I wanted to go back to Dr. Vish I was told he only does surgeries and I had to use an optometrist, even though I no longer wear contacts. Rheumatologist prefers ophthalmologist. So beware, Ocala Eye seems to be cheapening their services by using optometrists more.

Agree, they are in it for the money I believe. Too busy, see as many people you can, use optometrists to get more in.

Dr John Randolph at Center for Retinal and Macular Disease off 466 near Hobby Lobby

Had a bad result from cataract surgery there with an ophthalmologist who is no longer there. Cornea surgeon could only correct it so much. Displeased. Then told only optometrist would see me for my checkups from there on out. Displeased. Like cattle being moved in the office.

Pennyt 02-09-2024 08:30 AM

I have serious glaivoma and go to Ocala Eye. They have glaucoma specialists there who have fellowships in the treatment of glaucoma

Pennyt 02-09-2024 08:33 AM

The OPTHALMOLOGISTS at Ocala Eye are highly rated. Dr. Morris is listed on Castle Connolly ... a site that lists the nations top doctors by their peers. I have had various eye surgeries with both Dr. Morris and Dr. Elmallah with good results. It is a very busy practice because so many people go there.

Ophthalmologist Recommendation

Dr. Jeffrey A. Sheridan at Fishman and Sheridan Eye Care Specialists in Leesburg.
Both Dr. Fishman and Dr. Sheridan are Ophthalmologists and I do my yearly exams there. Dr. Sheridan did my cataract surgery and I like him very much as a person and as a Doctor.

Dr Gooch at St Luke’s. He has an office across from Barnes and Nobles near Sumter Landing and another at The Villages Health in Brownwood.

I was on the commercial side of the ophthalmology business for 27 years. Dr Ireland at St Luke’s ( in Sumter Landing) performed cataract surgery on me this past December. My results are outstanding. She is very compassionate and answers all of your questions. Takes time to explain the procedure, though I’ve seen over 150,000 cataract surgeries in my past work life. Did not push any of the more expensive alternative lenses. Highly recommend her and the staff at St Luke’s.

My mom had cataract surgery up here in NYC (love our ophthalmologist!) - did you have surgery with a fempto-pulse laser?

Go to Ocala Eye at Laurel Manor and try to get an appointment with Dr. Mohammed ElMallah. He is without a doubt, the most personable, thorough, patient and medically proficient medical doctor (regardless of their speciality) of any doctor I have seen since moving to The Villages in 2013. He spends as much time with his patients as they need/want, talks to them in terms they can easily understand and goes out of his way to develop a solid sense of rapport with them. As an Ophthalmic Surgeon, he specializes in Premium Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma Surgery, Diseases and Surgery of the Anterior Segment. In addition to his extensive, and impressive list of post-graduate medical degrees and training/qualifications/fellowships, he got his bachelor's degree from Harvard - which, if nothing else speaks to his academic prowess. If you are looking for an exceptional ophthalmologist you can trust, relate to and depend on for exceptional eye care and/or surgery then Dr ElMallah at Ocala Eye is the one to see.

dpmers 02-09-2024 02:23 PM

Under no circumstances allow Dr Scot Holman at Lake eye to do your cataract surgery, he is horrible. Dr Terpstra is great but does not do cataracts.
Dr Ireland at St Lukes is great with cataracts. We have first hand experience with these Drs.

tedquick 02-09-2024 02:52 PM

Dr. John Randolph.

I have seen many ophthalmologists over the years and I strongly recommend and second Dr. Randolph. I have "advanced" macular degeneration and have complete confidence in his treatment.
