large vibration possible earth quake
About 10 minutes ago heard a rumble , house vibrated in the area of St. James near Buena Vista , and St. Charles gate. Anyone else feel this.
|
I heard it near Pine Ridge, but no vibration.
|
Return of spacecraft?
|
My wife sneezed
|
I also heard it
|
Lake Deaton as well. Best explanation was sonic boom from returning space capsule---time matched almost perfectly. But tv news also reported a 4.0 earthquake as well.

Wasn't the earthquake yesterday, or was there another this morning? |
Yes, I went around the house (Mallory) to see if anything happened. I love the way the article says, “sonic booms are increasingly common…” as if disturbing the many people effected for commercial ventures, was acceptable.
|
It was the spacecraft returning to earth.
|
I heard it too.

Entertainment for our northerners lol. |
We heard it and felt it here in Hillsboro and our garage door opened up. Very strange! It was more like a sonic boom than an EQ.

Sonic boom Florida Ax-3 returned to Earth.

This happened in SoCal back in the days when the space shuttle was flying. Two sonic booms in quick succession as it entered earth’s atmosphere. Sometimes we were aware it was coming, sometimes not, but we always knew what it was when it happened. Life in the space age.

Just a bit more detail...
The SpaceX Crew Dragon was returning from the International Space Station. Its entry groundtrack took it from SW to NE across Mexico and Florida, with splashdown off the coast of Daytona. The spacecraft was returning the AX-3 private astronaut crew following a two-week mission. This ascending entry created the opportunity for sonic booms over our area as it slowed below the speed of sound heading toward the desired splashdown zone. NASA and Axiom Space have an agreement to fly commercial (private) astronaut missions to and from the Station about once a year when it doesn't interfere with ongoing 24/7 operations. NASA requires the Commander of the four-person mission to be a former flown NASA astronaut. The other seats can be sold to crew members approved by the partnership. Axiom is working on designs for a commercial space station that eventually could among several that NASA uses for scientific research after the ISS is retired and deorbited safely over the Pacific at the end of its useful lifetime. |
