Review of Super Bowl 58

In my opinion...

1. Game was good, but prefer higher-scoring football.

2. S.F. should have won - the muffed punt return by SF resulted in an easy touchdown for KC. And the blocked SF extra point in Q4 allowed KC into OT. Could have easily been a SF SB win.

3. Vegas seemed to be a great location for a SB.

4. Completely tired of the shots of Swift - I heard, just during the game itself, CBS took a total of 58 seconds of her in the lux box. I counted 10 times. Enough already.

5. Commercials, NONE stood out to be worthy of mention.

6. Commercials again - How many multi-millionaire 'stars' were in these commercials? Some for a second or so, but no doubt took in huge $$$$.

7. Halftime show. I'm getting old, Usher & Co was the usual glitz and glamor. We actually fast-forwarded thru most of it.

I'm done, till next year...

GpaVader 02-12-2024 08:30 AM

I agree with what you stated above but I'll add that SF had two turnovers they didn't do anything with. The interception at the Chiefs 45 yard line. I suppose the other should count since it kept KC from scoring....

Enjoyed the game, SF had their chances but did not follow thru and the muffed punt was awful.

The commercials with stars of Suits was fun to watch.

Topspinmo 02-12-2024 09:11 AM

There was Super Bowl on last night? :1rotfl:

coffeebean 02-12-2024 10:35 AM

I missed the airing of the Budweiser Clydesdale's commercial. About when did it air during the game?

Was surprised by the score. Especially first half, it was not very inticing, and I really thought 49ers were playing much better towards a win.
Usher was nostalgic, loved all the older songs over the new.
And agreed. Enough of Taylor already  I was surprised to see how Kelce approached the coach. Honestly, should have been benched after that in my opinion.
Till next year! Congrats to Mahomes and the Chiefs

How did you do that on a live performance?

Michael 61 02-12-2024 12:19 PM

I opted for Rocky at Brownwood instead - quite a good-sized crowd of non-super bowl folks.

retiredguy123 02-12-2024 12:36 PM

I enjoyed watching the actual game, but everything else was a distraction.

We have DirecTV and record. Last night we were about 20 min back of live - Fast forwarded thru the shots of Swift in her lux box, and many minutes of halftime. You know, things we did not care to subject ourselves thru. I record most of the time, and FF thru commercials and crap....

You would have needed to start a lot further back than 20 minutes during the Super Bowl.

We start 45 minutes into a typical game and get to live by the 4th qtr

Kansas City is not going to get a three peat if they play like they did yesterday. Not sure how they actually won that game.

Totally agree. KC would have easily lost without blocking that extra point and that stupid punt return muff by S.F. And also the tepid offensive calls by S.F. in the 3rd quarter.
KC actually did not play worthy of winning that game outright.
I feel badly for the 49rs fans. They got robbed by a few dumb plays on their team’s part. KC lucked into a win.

They scored more points.

I liked the game however the qualifier is I did not have a favorite. Liked the fact that the game did not come down to some controversial penalty call. I would like to have seen more coverage of Tay Tay though.

So the Chiefs would have lost if they didn't play the game.

Got it.

Your thumb must have been busy.

Swift was shown on camera for 55 total seconds during CBS's Super Bowl 58 broadcast, according to Admeter. The pop star graced the screen a total of 11 times, meaning that the appearances lasted an average of five seconds each.

1. Agree, higher scoring games are usually better, but this was a nail-biter, so no complaints there.

2. The missed extra point was key. It would have left them ahead by 4, requiring a KC touchdown instead of a tying field goal to force OT.

3. Vegas is always great, albeit ridiculously overpriced.

4. Not sure why they need to show any celebrities. But especially her, repeatedly.

5. Most of them were unmemorable, but I did like the State Farm commercial with Schwartzenegger.

6. Good gig if you can get it.

7. Halftime show never lives up to the hype. I'd be fine with something half as time consuming, like a marching band. Then I wouldn't feel obligated to watch.

There lies the problem. Many posters don't read but are anxious to show off what they know. Reading is an acquired skill - requires practicing and participation. A lot like coloring.

I don’t feel sorry for them. KC didn’t luck into a win; do you think they lucked through those playoff wins? Don’t think so. It was a great Midwest team beating a left coast team. Boom 💥

They did not seem like the team in those playoff wins. Maybe, it was the surroundings and expectations. Vegas can be a bit much. Have not been there though in forty years.

Maybe they will do better in New Orleans. If they get there for Super Bowl LIX https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/oth...ix/ar-BB1ibdt5.

Agree completely re Taylor Swift. Clearly her relationship with the on-field player contributed to the interest. I know a lot of people were curious as to how she would react.

Overall an enjoyable game even though low scoring. It was not memorable for the quality of play though - a disappointment in that respect.

Blackbird45 02-13-2024 04:39 AM

I grew up in a state subsidized apartment complex with 30 kids my own age. A lot of signed up with Pop Warner football league. I think our parents were happy because it was a place to release our aggression.
I still love to watch football even when I have no interest in either team or the outcome. What I love to watch is when a team executes a plan that throws the other team off balance and catches them by surprise. To me that is what distinguishes football from many other sports. Besides brawn there has to be brains. The half time show is just a bathroom break.

Robnlaura 02-13-2024 04:50 AM

I found the whole racial divisiveness a real issue starting with the “black national anthem” followed by the “black only half time show” by an aging dancer.

There is only ONE national anthem.

As there is only ONE United States of America.

And it’s for EVERYONE - white, black, yellow, and even maroon.

The agenda of division isn’t just needless; it’s exhausting.

Ele201 02-13-2024 06:54 AM

Think about how exhausting it must be for black people - they’ve been enduring it for hundreds of years.

At least African Americans get paid a decent income when it comes to football.

NoMo50 02-13-2024 07:18 AM

Super Bowl LVIII was probably one of the best, along with last year's Eagles/Chiefs matchup. Real fans get it. Last year's game was an offensive shootout, while this year's was a defensive dogfight. Both teams had top rated defensive units (KC #2, SF #8), and it showed. Steve Spagnuolo proved once again why he is one of the best defensive minds in football, as SF was effectively shut down in the 2nd half (when it counts).

Also, the Chiefs didn't "luck" into anything, and the officiating was mostly fair. During the postseason this year, KC beat both #1 seeded teams, and beat 4 of the 6 top rated offenses in football...holding them all to a total of 63 points. And, while Kyle Shanahan is a really good coach, he was quite simply outmatched during this game, on both sides of the ball.

The winning formula was actually pretty simple this year: Keep the game close going into the 2nd half; then lean on your defense to clamp down the opponent, and let Mahomes do what he does best...win football games.

talonip 02-13-2024 07:29 AM

Commercials

In the 1st 45 minutes there was 15 minutes of football and 30 minutes of commercials many of which were repeated.
It was a great defensive game and both teams were great. I am an avid chiefs fan since mid 60’s. Both teams were great

Worse than muffed punt was winning the overtime coin toss and choosing to receive. Nobody does that. Had KC gone first and scored, SF would not have been kicking a field goal on 3rd down. You think?

I don''t mind the Swift Kielce stuff, but can't understand anything Usher said/sang. Poor halftime

airstreamingypsy 02-13-2024 09:28 AM

I thought it was a great game, loved when it went into overtime. My team won. I loved the halftime show. I loved when they showed Taylor Swift. The commercials were a bit disappointing, compared to past years. I saw the Clydesdales, did you know the yellow Lab belongs to Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell? I had friends visiting, during Usher's performance I said, "Old white guys in the Villages hating this right now. Laughing because all the Taylor Swift conspiracies never happened.

I was with someone who was thrilled with the halftime show. It could be we are no longer the market the NFL is trying to reach.
