Best dinner ever!

I just had the tastiest dinner I’ve ever had - fried chicken breast (Popeyes), green beans, homemade mashed potatoes, and rich, homemade, chicken gravy. I wonder, what would you consider the most perfect meal?

retiredguy123 02-12-2024 07:43 PM

A dozen jumbo steamed Maryland blue crabs with Old Bay seasoning, and beer. Nothing else is needed.

A thick medium rare steak grilled to perfection, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and a glass of wine. Followed by an incredible chocolate dessert.

I like your style. Popeye's makes incredible chicken.

Smalley 02-12-2024 08:19 PM

What comes to mind is a lobster roll (while being in Maine) and a decaf latte.

Dam, that sounds great!

BrianL99 02-12-2024 08:40 PM

I suspect Popeyes isn't going to make many lists.

I had it once. First bite was awesome. 2nd bite? I felt my arteries start to clog, my cholesterol rising and I knew the grease taste would never go away or the smell come off my fingers.

Threw away the sandwich.

sportsguy: Fresh caught tuna, the same day preferably by me, tataki seared with fresh ground wasabi, and Bud Light Lime

or

coachk: fresh off the boat lobster with fresh corn on the cob, large salad and Chardonnay

Mookie55 02-12-2024 09:19 PM

To pound and a half Maine lobsters, in season corn on the cob,hot fudge sundae for desert

My husband and I had that once on a trip to Baltimore - we still talk about that more than thirty years later.

That sounds about as good as it gets, other than steamed Alaskan King Crab and freshly picked asparagus with drawn butter and a brandy sniffer filled with half Hennessy and half Grand Marnier. A few freshly shucked Wellfleet Oysters with fresh horseradish would take it over the top of culinary nirvana.

MorTech 02-12-2024 11:41 PM

Bistecca alla Fiorentina from Trattoria dall’Oste Chianineria...It's a bit out of town.

I will take AKC over lobstah all day every day with lightly grilled asparagas, with a start of steamers, cold jelly pearl makers :barf: not so much. . . .

ThirdOfFive 02-13-2024 07:44 AM

Klobasa, roasted potatoes and dandelion-green salad. Mom made this a couple of times every spring around Easter. Maybe potica for dessert.

And a shot or two of Slivovitz.

As many Virginia/Maryland blue crabs that I can catch in my 6 pots, steamed with vinegar, Old Bay and a full can of beer added. Just add ice cold beer and friends on the porch with a nice southeast breeze off the bay. Maybe a few of my cage raised oysters roasted on the grill with Old Bay butter.

Life on the Chesapeake Bay!

Too hard to cook tuna. Goes from undercooked to overdone faster than I can catch it

collie1228 02-13-2024 10:30 AM

Our annual family reunion - coming up on the 90th. Classic homemade picnic style dishes, like mac and cheese, potato and macaroni salad, three bean salad, fried chicken, baked beans, etc. and the list goes on and on. And don't forget the deserts. All (or most) homemade and delicious.

Does take practice to cook it!

secret is thick steaks, and very hot iron skillet for maybe 15-20 seconds a side.

I did it once and it started to rain, and the rain drops sent hot oil onto the side of the house. . .

The most perfect meal? That's a tough one. The setting/location means a lot.
For instance:
Rack of musk ox, grilled asparagus, smashed Yukon gold with musk ox au just at a first rate restaurant overlooking Vancouver Island as the sun sinks slowly in the west, or,
Fresh caught white abalone steak, lightly dipped in egg batter and quickly pan fried, with fresh mixed green salad and grilled garlic sourdough while at anchor in Cherry cove, Catalina, or,
Baramundi "wings" (pectoral fins) cooked in a wine and butter sauce with (I really can't remember. It's been so long ago) in a jungle themed restaurant in Port Douglas, Australia, or,
Saimin on Waikiki after spending the morning surfing/snorkeling.
This reminiscing could go on for hours. Thanks for asking.

A Jersey Shore lightly fried fish fry consisting of fried fillet, sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, crab cake, and at an extra charge an added fried lobster tail. None of this is greasy. A side of Mac & Cheese and stewed tomatoes. Start the meal with a big bloody Mary with shrimp and olives. We have this meal at a certain Jersey Shore restaurant when we can. Privately owned. Not a chain. Being down the shore they are not open all year.

Instead of a bloody mary, make it a Caesar. Just a suggestion. Now I'm hungry!

Think we will stick to tuna in a can, hard to screw that up

My mouth is watering. Sounds fantastic!

I am from the Midwest, so I will say fresh walleyed pike.

MikeN 02-14-2024 06:34 AM

Sounds better than most of the food restaurants here in the villages serves

Blackbird45 02-14-2024 06:37 AM

Capital Grill
Steak Oscar a filet mignon, topped jumbo lump crab and bearnaise, sides mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Oh, I forgot Canadian Club and ginger ale over ice.

Normal 02-14-2024 06:53 AM

Bow tie

Bow tie with thick truffle sauce and a cab.

Around here, try Flemmings in Orlando. Best dry aged rib eye in the area.

I had a week-end cottage on St. George Island, Maryland for 20 years. We'd set the pots out on Friday night and collect crabs through the weekend. Sunday afternoon crab feasts with fresh picked corn and ripe sliced tomatoes from the Amish farms in Loveville, Md. good times

BlackHarley 02-14-2024 08:04 AM

Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles...etc, etc

Two Bills 02-14-2024 08:08 AM

Was once trapped by a blizzard for three days and two nights.
Nothing death defying, had water, made shelter, fire for warmth, no food though.
When we finally got out, had a bowl of hot stew, a cup of tea, and a cigarette.
Best 5-star meal I ever had.

Love that chicken from Popeyes!

airstreamingypsy 02-14-2024 08:13 AM

When I was a kid my mom would make whatever we wanted for our birthday. I always wanted leg of lamb, mint jelly, mashed potatoes, spinach and birthday cake.

Now, since I haven't eaten mammals for about 25 years..... seafood and pasta, preferably linguini. Shrimp, scallops and lobster being my very favorite.

waterflower 02-14-2024 08:34 AM

Research the oil that popeyes uses. Mechanics use it too.

Joe C. 02-14-2024 08:48 AM

Roast beef, mashed potatoes, string beans, carrots, onions, gravy, biscuits and butter. That's my absolute favorite. Closely followed by corned beef and cabbage dinner.
For "comfort" food, I'll be happy with American chop suey.

Southern cornbread (not the sweet stuff), greens and fried okra.

Not so much these days, as most cars take synthetic.

They do use the same stuff in older cars.

Please forgive me but if this is the best meal you have "ever" had I feel very badly for you. Maybe, and I say maybe it was the best fast-food meal you have ever had but please tell us you grew up in a home where your family cooked home cooked meals. I spent 30 years in the Air Force, and I have to say there were meals I ate in the Chow Hall that would surpass the quality of a Popeye's meal. I have eaten all over the world and could list dozens, maybe hundreds of better tasting meals.

Your meal listed was also my favorite until I had 2 heart attacks and 5 by pass surgery last Fall. My new favorite is baked sweet potato and a mixed green side salad.

I hear ya.

Back in 1968 I landed a job on a survey crew contour mapping what would eventually become Voyageur's National Park, up on the border of Minnesota and Ontario. Great summer job for a young buck: ten on, four off and the four off if not spent at home were spent in places like International Falls raising hell. Maybe 12 of us, living in tents and running lines from benchmark to benchmark that were always near lakes. One night my buddy and I, together with our surveyor, misjudged the time and ended up not being able to get back to camp by dark. No problem; we just bedded down on whatever looked soft and sort of slept. No food, and water gone. Just before dawn we got up; my buddy remembered a small stream about 100 yards down hill from where we were, and volunteered to get water. He used his hard hat for the purpose. When he got back we all had a big drink. When it became light enough to see though we saw what was left in his hard hat wasn't just water: dozens of mosquito larvae were busily swimming around.
