Which zip code do you give?
Getting ready to move to The Villages and I understand we use "The Villages" zip 32163 for our mailing address. But on Google maps no matter what you do it appears as " Wildwood, FL 34785 " Which address do we give our movers or will they understand it's the same? For all deliveries..which address do you use? Thanks!

Oddly, when you are getting car insurance, have the broker check with both zip codes. Some quotes I got were different $$ even though it's identical coverage, one or the other was sometimes less. They use demographics, and one zip must include different groups of people. |

The Villages is not an incorporated city and has no post office of it's own, so there is no real zip with "The Villages".
I asked at the post office when we moved here, and they said The Villages was fine to use instead of Lady Lake in our case. |
I would use the zip from the mailing address. Not all the Villages is in 32163, there are actually four zip codes for the Villages.
The reason to use the zip from the mailing address: - This is the official zip code assigned to that address from the controlling organization (USPS) - You don't want to have to remember multiple addresses for your home - Some deliveries will use the USPS as the "last leg" for the delivery and you want it to go through the correct post office |
Maker's advice was good for the movers now. You want your furniture delivered to the right house. Bill's advice is good for once you are moved in & Google Maps has caught up with the new development. For a while you may, as Maker indicated, have to give detailed instructions to deliveries. Longer term The Villages, FL 32163

Use "The Villages". Using "Wildwood" will get your mail sent back to sender. It happened to me when I first moved in. Double check your zip code.
|
mail yourself a letter using both codes and see what happens.

Ask your salesperson for the official address of your new home. There are several different zip codes within The Villages. 32163 is south of 466A and north (I think) of Hwy 44. 34785 is south of Hwy 44? Other areas have other zip codes. Your salesperson will know. Or go to the post office, not Google maps. |
Lake Denham is in Okahumpka 34762. I went with the zip listed with my county tax collector because it seemed the best way to stay out of prison
|
Just go to the source: usps.com and enter the address. It will give you the correct zip code.

For the record....
This is incorrect information....
32163 is south of 466A and north (I think) of Hwy 44. 34785 is south of Hwy 44? The Village of Richmond, which is South of 44, has an official USPS zip of 32163 |
Unless somethings changed all of TV's mail goes thru the Lady Lake Post Office where the contractors pick it up and distribute it at the neighborhood mail stations.

The newer areas do not process mail thru Lady Lake. They use Wildwood or Lake Okahumpka. |

I bet you are really confused now.
Dear Loriemoms,
By scanning the responses, I see that the variety of input you are getting might make things more confusing for you than less. Here is our experience: Even before we actually arrived, we started using the 32163 zip code and have never lost any mail or had a delivery problem in over two years. This is true in three of "The Villages" properties we have bought in Wildwood (the Hammock in Fenny, Deluna and Richmond) All are south of 44 and all three are physically located within the City of Wildwood. The delivery people here are well versed in how The Villages address system works and the gradual shift from one zip code to the new one. Your Villages real-estate rep and/or closing department should give you your new zip code that comes with the property. That's the one I would use, not the old one. I'm thinking that using the old one might have some unintended bad consequences. Good Luck and welcome to The Villages. You're gonna love it. |

what village are you moving to? Then, post that on here and ask your question. I am in zip 32162. Or you can go to other sites, such as Nextdoor.com or the villages friendy folks and ask.

Agree with Maker’s suggestion. Explain the situation and give directions. |

The newest areas might use Wildwood or Okahumpka but at least those built through 2020 (Marsh Bend) use 32163 which is routed through the Lady Lake post office. |

Prior to Villages construction, areas in Sumter County are assigned to the zip code of the nearest post office. Much of the land the Villages is built on had a Wildwood zip code. The land where newer sections are being built may also have Okahumpka zip codes. Once the area is developed and perhaps once it is brought under a CDD, the address is changed from Lady Lake or Wildwood or Okahumpka to the Villages and the zip code is changed to one of the three Villages zip codes (32163 for many). Google maps takes a while to catch up. For example, 6380 Merhottein Loop has a Wildwood 34785 zip code in Google Maps while it has an address of the Villages 32163 in the Sumter County tax records. The only way I know of to determine what will happen in Dabney is to give it some time. l assume the Sumter County Tax Collector website will have the correct information but I don't see any Dabney homes in there yet. They will get there eventually. Many things are possible including a new zip code for the Villages so we'll just have to wait and see. I like the advice of post #6: Give the moving company the address they will be able to find which is the google maps address. Your mail will come through the USPS so use whatever zip code the USPS knows for your address even if it is different from the google maps info. |

Confusing at best. My zip is 32159. It can be used for The Villages or Lady Lake. Both addresses work!

Here's a neat little tool I've used in the past that gives your the geographical boundaries of a zip code;
ZIP Code Database List & Canadian Postal Code Listings |
Typically, I use the address and zip code the post office provides at ZIP Code™ Lookup | USPS
Just add your street address and city, state and the post office will provide the official address. Often you can use "The Villages" as the city but not always. I have had certain web sites reject that. As for physical deliveries, sometimes adding instructions for the driver helps if you can as someone else suggested. |
