Home, depot, or Lowe’s via golf cart?
I am needing to go to either Home Depot or Lowe’s via golf cart and live around Lake Sumter area and a long golf cart ride is no problem. Is there way to get to one of these irregardless of the location in the villages via golf cart?

Lowes on 441 - over to the historic side and bring you gate card to get through gate. Not hard once you get used to it. North of Spanish Springs. Easier to ask directions than to tell you directions. Just ask someone where to find gate. Home Depot not accessible by cart. I live in Bonnybrook. about 35 minute cart ride.

Just FYI, the Lowes at Trailwind (and eventually the Home Depot) are not accessible by normal golf cart (street legal ok?). I see people do it quite often, however, at Pinellas and 466a. There is a sign a ways back from the traffic light that says "no golf carts beyond this point."

To get to Lowes on the cart from your house, go into Spanish Springs and then over the cart bridge to the Historic Section. The bridge ends onto Paradise Dr. Take Paradise Dr. north, past the Paradise Rec Center, and continue on Paradise Dr through the Boone Ct intersection. After passing 5 houses on your left, you will see a pathway between the houses. Take that pathway through the gate and then follow the street going past the BJ's store. You will see Lowes just north of BJ's. And remember to take your gate pass, because you will need it to get back into the Paradise Dr. pathway.

We also went "over the bridge" and right as far as the gas station but the walk from there was also long and arduous so we turned round halfway. Lowes "through the gate" is a much better option, and if we really need something from Home Depot we have it delivered. |
made it!
special thank you to everyone that helped me with the directions ,, I made it to Lowe’s. Got what I went after. Most exciting part of the trip was being able to go to Wawa and as usual the police were they were arresting someone. There are times I would just like to sit in the golf cart and watch the show. at times it can be like an episode of cops.

I am shocked & surprised at this WPD statement. The sign ("no golf carts beyond this point.") was erected by The Villages......a private entity. Private signs do not determine law.............they are opinions/suggestions.:popcorn::popcorn: |

I suspect it does matter who is wearing the gloves that plants the signs or who is signing the paycheck for that individual. If the law does not allow crossing 466A and there is a legal sign stating such then the argument that "I heard on the internet that it was ok" isn't going to carry much weight. FWIW: I heard a Sumter County Sheriff deputy (not sure what rank), state unequivocally that crossing 466A at Trailwinds was NOT legal. (of course, he also would have said that traveling down Morse at a speed greater than 35mph is not legal and we know how many obey that) |

My information was from the WPD traffic unit. More popcorn please. :BigApplause: |

Florida laws

Chapter 316 Section 2126 - 2019 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate. you will see the actual laws regarding golf carts in Florida. Bottom line, if you register & insure your cart…”street legal”…you can drive on any road posted 35mph or less. You can CROSS any other road posted over 35mph with a street legal cart only. If you don’t make your cart street legal you can only drive on paths inside subdivisions that have them, with their rules. THAT is the law. |

Pinellas and 466a at the 4 lane "no golf carts beyond this point." - I tried to tell some people they couldn't do it
Technically you are risking a BIG FINE going out on any 4 lane and they can confiscate your cart |

The Florida Statutes say that crossing 466A in a golf cart is not legal unless specifically authorized. The posted signage says crossing is not authorized. The local authorities cannot seem to agree on a position - I've seen or heard contradicting statements from County Commissioners, Wildwood Police, and Sumter County Sheriffs. You got away with it yet there is a report in this thread of others being turned around. My advice (which I follow myself) is to not try it unless you are carrying something in writing on Wildwood or Sumter County letterhead saying it is legal. |

Third, the statute clearly makes the provision that a "golf cart" can cross a state highway at a designated intersection. (d) Golf carts and utility vehicles may cross a portion of the State Highway System which has a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour or less only at an intersection with an official traffic control device. |

316.2126 Authorized use of golf carts, low-speed vehicles, and utility vehicles.—This section applies to vehicles operated by a municipality such as the city of WIldwood or possibly the CDDs. It does NOT apply to golf carts operated by you or me. |

Upon its determination that golf carts may be operated on a given road, the department shall post appropriate signs on the road to indicate that such operation is allowed."I know there is a sign saying not to do it. I understand the Florida Statutes say it is not allowed. I know there is no sign saying it *is* allowed. But, it must be legal, I saw it in a post on ToTV." Yep, that will work. |

As I assume you know.............there are golf carts which can travel on Buena Vista, Morse, etc. Just give TV a call (I don't have a number), they will confirm they erected and the signs are suggestions/warnings. They might be able to help you on the speed limit signs. :gc: |

*Are legally allowed*: No, golf carts are not legally allowed to travel on Buena Vista, Morse (below 466), etc. Low speed vehicles are allowed to travel on Buena Vista and on Morse north of 44 (not sure about below 44) but while they may look similar, Florida law differentiates between golf carts and low speed vehicles. But hey, we aren't going to solve this here. You have your beliefs, I have Florida statute. Many may cross without a problem, I've seen many traveling down I-75 at well over 80mph without a problem. You have your discussion with a Wildwood officer saying it was allowed, with enough work I can find the official recording (CDD or PWAC, I don't recall) of the meeting where the Sheriff's deputy stated it was not allowed. I am not going to take the opinion of a ToTV poster over the posted sign and the Florida statutes, others may choose differently. |

Why anyone would want to venture across 466a to Trailwinds in their golf cart is beyond me. We have a "street legal" cart and would never do that. The traffic there is insane.....especially by Lowes, Aldi and the shopping center with Publix and Marco's. We go over there frequently in our car.
