Buy a washer and dryer recently?
Looking at buying a top load washer and dryer combo. Impeller or agitator? If you have recently made this purchase will you share model and brand if you liked or disliked your purchase? THANK YOU!

When I moved into my first house in TV 2 years ago, I bought a LG impeller top loader and a gas dryer - 7800 series. I did not like them at all. The dryer took forever. The clothes in the top loader would float on a huge air bubble on top of the water and not get wet at all. I moved into my second home a couple of months ago and bought an LG front loader and electric dryer - 8980 series. The difference is like night and day. Both machines are very fast and do a great job.

Basic GE top load agitator drum, large capacity, matching electric dryer.

Recently bought Maytag top load washer with center agitator with 10 year warranty. Uses less water on auto sense feature but have options low, medium or high water fill. On spin cycle items come out just damp dry quickly in dryer. Does great job cleaning clothes. Actually how soiled can clothes get being retired. Yard work clothing does very good job. The reason washer replaced was cost of repairs exceeding the cost of a new machine.

Just a suggestion to pay attention to the new dryer door opening to the left or right. The set that came with our house has the dryer on the left and it's door hinge is on the right which creates a bit of obstruction when it comes time to load from the washer on the right.

Last year we bought a GE agitator washer and a GE dryer and we love them. We now buy all of our appliances from Best Buy. If you find the price any lower anywhere else, they will match it. A member of the Geek Squad who is trained on setting up appliances will deliver it and set it up. Also, if you ever need repair, GE parts are easier to get.

GE Appliances
Two weeks ago we bought a GE 4.5 cu. ft. Capacity Washer with Water Level Control (Model # GTW585BSVWS) and a GE 7.4 cu. ft. GAS Dryer with Sensor Dry (Model # GTD58GBSVWS). We love everything about both of these appliances. The washer has an agitator which was one of our criteria. Another was being able to control the water level. This washer has a window so you can see the level of water as it fills. The dryer has a window and a light. Highly recommend both the washer and dryer.

Top loaders go out of balance easily especially with bulky items. From loaders are all I will use. GE models have a good service record

LG front loader and dryer going on 10 years and nary a problem. Front loaders use much less water and gets the clothes cleaner. Would never go back.

I bought a Whirlpool 2 in 1 model in November from Lowe’s. There is a removable agitator. When I need the space for large bulky items or delicates I simply take out the agitator. Will do my king size comforters easily. Love it.

If you are looking for washers & dryers that perform well, and are reliable...repairmen would steer you towards Whirlpool and Maytag. Both have an excellent reputation for performance and durability, and both brands are still made in the USA, if that matters to you. Maytag, by the way, is owned by Whirlpool.

Used to have a GE washer with an impeller. I liked that my clothes were not all twisted together when the cycle was complete. Also with no agitator taking up space there was a greater capacity which allowed room for washing blankets and quilts. Had no problems with it. Left it behind when we moved.

Speed Queen
Bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer. They are both top loaders and don't have all the electronics, that you don't typically use, work very well and last for ever. Speed Queen is the primary provider of commercial washers and dryers. They do a massive amount of testing. The washer and dryer just have the manual dials versus the electronics and still have a lot of features. I go mine at Ken and Kerrys on 27/441 down near Leesburg.

We had the Samsung top loader without agitator set and had a lot of problems with them. We were fortunate to have a AHS home warranty that covered all but the service call on the repairs. When we moved here 7 years ago we bought LG front loaders and have not had a problem with either unit.

Washer and Dryer
Speed Queen is the best. Period.

Another vote for Speed Queen.
We bought ours 6 years ago and have had zero issues. As the OP stated, they are commercial machines made for the residence. Gears are metal not plastic, and no fancy electronics that will crap out. They cost more but are workhorses. |
Just had my 10+ year old whirlpool cabrio platinum water pump replaced. My repairman advised staying away from the new LG and Samsung washer and dryers. Mainly due to the electronic brain. Just saying, I have no real proof or experience.

About 9 months ago we purchased LG Thin Q washer and matching dryer from Lowes. Not cheap but not the high end either. We got them on sale and Lowes had the best price as we shopped around. Both are front loading machines, both electric. They have lots of bells and whistles, we use some of the features, but overall very good machines, and we find they are much gentler on our clothes than our previous old set. They are also Wi-fi controllable but we don't use that function.

Expensive....but great!
Speed queen
3 dials, full water wash, soak dial, both washer&dryer top ofthe line. No computer confusion, open lid anytime, clothes come out clean!! |
Washer/Dryer
I suggest you buy a Speed Queen set. It will probably be the last set you will need. I believe DeSantis Appliance Store Sells them near TV.

The reason why newer appliances with electronics fail most of the time is because of power surges. If you like appliances with all the bells and whistles, you need to get a whole house surge protector from Pikes or Lenhardt electric if you live in Central Florida. Eventhough you might not think you are gettig power surges, they occur all the time especially when we have storms. Over time these small and sometimes large surges eventually damage the electronics and your appliance will just fail all of a sudden.

Three years ago my three year old Maytag washer went bad, and the repair was going to be over $300, so I decided to get rid of both. The washer had about a dozen functions we never used or wanted, and it was something to do with the computer that went bad. I went to Appliance Direct and told them I wanted the least complicated washer and dryer in their inventory. They sold me the Whirlpool set, which at the time was less than $800. They were delivered the next day. Love them; no problems and the clothes get clean.

Huge difference in cleaning quality, drying time, and you can put your bedspread and blankets in it. I’m not sure what brand I got, but I got it at Walmart or Sam’s or Home Depot and it was I think 1500 for both?! You’ll have it forever |
