MVP Garage door opener

Just purchased a home in Fenney with an MVP Garage door opener, unfortunately there is no remote.
The opener is discontinued and I can't find a replacement. I am looking for 2 either replacements or a compatible substitute.

thanks in advance.

Which remote? One on outside garage door or the one carry around? If one carry around was bunch on eBay couple months ago? If it’s the garage door entry control panel by inside door it’s obsolete. Good luck finding that one.

Do you have the door pad controller inside the garage? That’s one that’s obsolete.

Garage Door Opener

Save yourself a bunch on time. I just went thru this my old MVP inside control panel was needing replaced. As everyone has said no luck finding one. Just decided to replace the opener. I went with Florida Garage Door Pros when you call they will come out the same day and replace the opener. I have a extra wide very heavy door so I went with the 3/4 horse Genie Opener. Installed with 3 remotes and outside remote opener total cost was $800.

dewilson58 03-03-2024 08:11 AM

Buy a universal remote.

Gary,

It is fairly easy to replace the entire opener with a new opener, I have done this on 5 or 6 neighbors I used Champion brand, and if you want real quiet operation the belt drive are excellent. A full blown opener with battery backup and wifi capability was around $300. While my knees do not like this work, I can advise if your doing it yourself, and I can give a hand with some of the work.

Do you still have the garage remote openers?

You can call Romac 362 753 3333 and see if they have the one you need. I need a new 3 button MVP Allstar hand held remote so I am going there to buy it. 722 Duck Lake Rd, Lady Lake, Romac building supply co is located there. Off of Rolling Acres Rd.

rsmurano 03-04-2024 06:51 AM

The opener you have should have a learn button, correct?
1st thing any new homeowner should do (new home or especially a used home) is to clear the codes stored in your opener. Right now people who have your remotes and who have setup their cars homelink devices can open your garage door, not good. Same thing for a new house, you don’t know if any of the contractors copied your remote codes so they can open your garage door.

Back to your current issue. If your garage door has a learn button,. You don’t need the original remote. You might not need any remote. Do your current cars have homelink setup from your last house? If so, press the learn button on the garage door opener and then hold down the homelink button in your car until the garage door opener flashes its light, then stop pressing the homelink button in the car. Now press the homelink button in your car and it should operate the door.
If no homelink setup, I can sell you a remote that you can use to program your garage door opener and your homelink button in your car.

I bought this and put my door, screen and golf cart door all on the same remote.

Forget it get a new motor just went through this there are none available & no universal works. Lucky if you find a used one

jimkerr 03-04-2024 07:48 AM

You can use any generic opener available from Lowe’s or Home Depot. It doesn’t have to be MVP brand.

The market for a universal opener that opens the MVP is very limited. I found several, but none of them worked well - the range was extremely limited.

BostonTom 03-04-2024 08:07 AM

I have two remotes you can have located in Alden Bungalows

I had the same experience. Universals do not work with old MVP openers. You can find a used one on ebay but they were starting at $80. Best to just upgrade the entire unit to something newer and with wifi. Also, if you have Amazon garage delivery, you can't use it with an old MVP opener.

eBay would be a better shot at finding a used one

Not today. They have a used MVP inside wall console, but no MVP remotes.

Miboater 03-04-2024 08:34 AM

There is a used MVP wall opener on Nextdoor for $60 right now. I did see someone selling 3 remotes last week but they must have been sold.

Eventually they quit working. Buy a belt driven opener from Lowe’s and purchase installation; they use local garage door companies. A few years ago, ours was less than $400 for a Craftsman (made by Chamberlain).

I am having the same issues with our MVP unit as it will not hold a code. This is resulting in the door going up and down at will. I called Scott and he is coming out this week to put a whole new Chamberlin Lift Master in, $550.00 total.
I had called ROMAC and they wanted $900.00 for the same unit.
I recently had to do the same thing with Scott at another property we have here in TV. Anyone that has these MVP controllers will in short time be needing to replace theirs I would imagine.

Do you know the model number that Scott is installing? Thanks.

My neighbor tried this it did not work, I think he tried 2 or 3 "universal" remotes.

Interesting. My SUV visor button works fine. It was programmed by the car dealer using the MVP remote. So, there must be universal remotes available that work.

Replacement for old MVP fobs

Order solidremote from Amazon $21.99 get a receiver and two fobs. Will need to purchase 12 volt adapter. Wire receiver to motor or wall controller. Remotes work independently from MVP. Can use solidremote and MVP or dispose of MVP remotes if you want.

I am GUESSING your SUV was able to receive the code, and then save it and then able to send it back. Many of the off the shelf universal remotes do not have this capability. I have never implemented this capability in any of our cars as they sit outside and if we forget to look the car, then the house is also unlocked....
