Bad Golf Advice
Was playing golf at an executive course today and there were several course workers removing moss from a tree on a par 4 hole. These workers were several hundred feet ahead of the T-Box and definitely not on the fairway but certainly not out of bounds. When we cautioned them that we were about to Tee Off, they ignored us and continued their work. We all hit our tee shots to avoid errant shots and no harm was done.
(And yes I reported this - as I am sure others have in the past but it obviously continues with some workers. I would think that employers should train, require protective equipment, and monitor conformance with safety protocol) While this may not be common, it does occur. If we ignore their lack of safety and accidently harm someone, I am sure we could/would be held liable. A simple etiquette yell of "fore" would hardly be a defense. |
Had this happen to us about a week and a half ago, I was wondering what the penalty was and if the ball ended up in the bucket how would we play it??? OK on a serious note, we ignored them, but the chain saw they were using to trim branches was annoying.

Another great golfing complaint.

I follow the golf course etiquette shown in the Michael Douglas film "Falling Down".

Same as previous replies, I just aim at them.
Their safety is assured. |

One thing I DO find rather irritating though is when the "ambassadors" do the same thing. Not frequent but it DOES happen. Not long back one of them stopped on our tee area and proceeded to put sand in divots in the gold and green tee boxes. We tee off from black, and just stood around waiting to tee off onto a vacant green while he finished is (very leisurely) task. |
Sirens and chainsaws don’t bother me as I always remove my hearing aids while playing golf. Only drawback is I can’t hear when someone says Fore!

This is yet another frivolous complaint !!

You need to move quickly to you’re safe state fast!!!!!!! Said the same thing about rock and roll. Ear headphones, and ear bugs. Waiting for millions to be deaf??? Looks like not going to happen. Now if said hearing lost them maybe yes. |

I have almost been hit a significant number of times while in my backyard gardening by golfers on a championship course. You would think that people playing that course would be better players, think again. Hitting the ball straight would be a better approach. I refuse to neglect my property to accommodate them!

This scenario has happened to many of us. We adjust. Why? Because WE SEE we may injure someone. We NEVER tell workers to stop working nor do we whine and complain when finished. Why? BECAUSE IT IS A GAME and we realize sometimes it may need to be adjusted. Rule number one if ANY GAME is to play safe. Don't believe it? Good luck convincing a judge and jury. If you injure or kill another while playing a round of golf, I am certain they will make you pay for your actions. |
Wow! It’s amazing how someone’s pride getting dinged, unintentionally, from an errant tee shot goes from an accident to a sensational murder trial. I think i’ll go back to putting thru the windmill at the local mini golf! Smh

I’m taking wagers....how many more posts like the above before a new TOTV ad sponsor from a local law firm pops up on the threads

I have read about people punching each other during golf. The result? Had to pay for their actions in a court of law. I have seen long and intense arguing, people throwing clubs down the fairway, balls thrown in anger, and more! If you can't keep control of your emotions while playing a silly game, you should be banned. Anyone can see you are a danger and in the worst of scenarios, someone may get killed. So what? A few workers got in your way during a round of golf. Get over it! |

We see workers on the course all the time. They also see us. They stop what they're doing for the few seconds it takes to take our shots and life goes on... Being on a golf course (either playing or working) carries an "assumption of risk"... Your fantasy that you'll "pay for your actions" is just plain silly... |

But sure, bring ridiculous fantasy scenarios into the argument... It's a sure sign you've lost the debate... |

The world stops for you EVERYTIME you tee off? I think you just explained why the golf courses are in bad shape. Too many golfers expecting the workers to stop what they are doing so they can play their game. Even pros in various sports stop a game if there is a sign of danger. Those who cannot should be banned from playing. I am proud that I play with groups who believe someone's life is more important than the game. They NEVER ask anyone to stop their work or expect a worker to keep track of what adults are doing around them. They do not believe a worker should patiently stop and wait each time someone needs to hit a golf ball. Reporting them for trying to complete their work is ridiculous. It is so much easier for the golfers to avoid the work area and adjust their game. Everyone remains safe and the needed work gets completed. |

Don't believe my REAL NEWS story? Google the words man punches a senior on the golf course in the Villages. I do not feel the need to upload it. I know I am telling the truth. A few seniors in our community could not control their sense of entitlement.Enraged, they have killed or injured others. It happens! When I read the OP, I thought it was childish and written by someone who obviously takes the game TOO SERIOUSLY. Pointing out and giving a REAL EXAMPLE of what could happen when one is in that mental state IS NOT ridiculous. Hopefully, the OP and his group realize golf is just a game. Things happen and you move on. Hope for a better game next time. And, always play safe. |

If you do not hit them on your shot can you take a mulligan?

There are workers ALL OVER the courses. Should we "skip a shot" every time we see one? That's just plain silly. The workers know we're there, they pull to the side, turn of their engines for a sec, give us a wave and carry on with their day... Who ever suggested "reporting the workers"? Certainly not me! Just another red herring to support your ridiculous argument... In your fantasy scenario, we'd be forgoing tee shots, 2nd shots, chips to the green, etc, etc, etc... But I'm sure you just pick up your ball and soldier on... Do you use those REALLY long tees when you tee of from your pedestal of virtue? And once again, I NEVER mentioned idiots fighting on the course. YOU are the one who keeps bringing up that foolishness... Grasp at straws much? |
