Havana Golf course

What is going on with Havana golf? Closed for 6 weeks, no apparent work being done?
Abandoned? No work being done?

Grass is growing. Being mowed. Looks like it is recovering fairly well.

tophcfa 04-25-2024 07:30 PM

What’s up with that course? It consistently seems to have more problems with conditions than any other Championship course in the Villages.

jarodrig 04-26-2024 07:40 AM

Same observation here ….

I drive by that course frequently and each time , there is not one single worker doing anything….

I guess they must be doing the work at night !! LOL :)

Carla B 04-26-2024 07:57 AM

When you say "Havana," which course do you mean, or do you mean all three courses? I live on one of them and wondered why there's been no activity lately.

There has been significant work done including aerations in the greens and fairways new sod in some of the greens, top dressing the greens and fairways. Right now the big guy upstairs has provided better growing conditions.
What work do all of you professional agronomists wants to see being done on a daily basis aside from what's being done?

Once the grass is repaired, it’s up to the sun and rain.
There is no need to move the holes every day, no need to rake the bunkers.
They probably only mow a few times a week.

Harold.wiser 04-26-2024 09:24 AM

When grass is growing it appears as though nothing is being done. 🙄

You could always stop by the pro shop or call to find out the progress. They provide a very simple answer.

If you can’t ask a golf question here where can you? Lighten up

It's like watching grass grow, isn't it? Well?

One of my great pass times, second only to watching paint dry!:icon_wink:

I heard a rumor that the wrong fertilizer used on the greens. Contractor issue, were they held responsible?

Bad news on the golf front.

The team that's been maintaining Glenview, are moving down South tomorrow.

As of tomorrow, TDS, Lopez & Glenview contractors have all moved South.

We'll still have the Havana & Evans Prairie team on the job.

Geez, most everyone else wants to go North for the hot summer.

That indeed is bad news.

So where is the best place to watch grass grow? Asking for a friend.

The putting green next to Fox Run @ Glenview was fairly quick yesterday; too bad the greens on the course were not.

I played Tally-Fox Run yesterday and shot 74 from the Blues. I thought the Greens were running exactly the same ... about 8.5 - 9.0.

Havana opening

My source, a manager at one of the championship courses tell me it will be re opening around June 1. Also, those talking about the grounds crew moving south. That happened a few months back, and went to Southern Oaks. Maybe that's why Southern Oaks is in such great shape.

Glenview's crew left last week to move South.

TDS's crew left a couple of months ago, as did the Lopez crew.

Follow the money

This is done on purpose!! You don't neglect the courses like this unless you want too. If you hire competent managers who know what they are doing this would never happen...unless their budget is cut!! Follow the money.

New conspiracy Boss!

Managed to play every Championship course this winter (some several times) except for Havana and Evans due to conditions. Looking forward to returning later this month to cross those two off the 2024 list. Love the variety of golf at the various courses, however I won’t be returning to Southern Oaks anytime soon. Besides good greens (which several other courses offer), I was very disappointed with the very mundane and boring wide open layout, turnpike and major power lines, and pro shop set up across the street. And for that it’s the most expensive course in the bubble? Even for the same price, I would rather play any other course in the Villages, with the possible exception of Orange Blossom, that’s about a tie. Hopefully the new Championship courses being built will be better?

Southern Oaks looks (& plays), like an airport that someone stuck flags in. I played there exactly once. Shook my head all the way home, realizing what an idiot I was, for riding 40 minutes in a golf cart to play that joke of a golf course.

On the other hand, it proves how smart the Developer is. He bought that land and said ... "Geez, most people aren't going to want to buy a house right next to the Turnpike. That land isn't worth anything. Oh wait! Let's stick some flags in the ground, call it a golf course and we'll charge folks extra to live on the golf course".

I guess that makes me an idiot also, I brought my guests there and it was about an hour golf cart ride using both my Yamahas. Oh well, at least our t time was after 2:00, so we played 18 for the 9 hole rate. In an attempt to say something positive about the course besides the quality of the greens, we enjoyed the three par 3, 4, and 5 per 9 design.

DARFAP 05-05-2024 04:46 AM

I have a tee time there this Wednesday. Looking forward to playing it again.

I played it just that one time, soon after it opened. I do remember the 3-3-3 setup. It was like playing on pavement. I can't hit it long, I'm old. But on 13, I hit Driver-5 Iron onto the green ... which means I must have totaled 100 yards of roll, between the 2 shots. Made Eagle, though.
