Golf Cart Died

2023 Yamaha Gas- 1000 miles. Started it up, drove in reverse, put it into drive and it died. Put it on charger for 10 minutes- OK to the pool and back home. Does this sound like a battery issue?

Topspinmo 05-11-2024 12:32 PM

You may have parasitic drain causing low voltage?

If want know for sure if it’s battery problem get a battery analyzer.

Amazon.com

Or similar if don’t want to spend that much. It will tell you if battery good or bad and condition.

Pondboy 05-11-2024 12:33 PM

Could be battery, could be other issue. Need more info to diagnose.

Have you had battery issues with this cart before? Any other electrical / mechanical issues?

Put back on charger until fully charged to rule out faulty battery. Do you drive it weekly for at least half an hour at one time or more ? (i.e does it get a good charge)

4$ALE 05-11-2024 12:42 PM

 Maybe take it back to where you purchased it and let them check it under warranty?????

bsloan1960 05-11-2024 12:46 PM

The voltage gauge on the dashboard is between 14 and 15 . We drive it every day.

What happened when it died and you tried to start it? Did it try to start or was there nothing at all (no click, no lights, horn)?

10 minutes on a charger should not make a difference (IMHO), I suspect an intermittent somewhere. In recent posts I would look at:
The ground connection, typically near the battery negative terminal the splice connection has been known to fail.
Accelerator switch failure.
A wiring problem from the battery (+) to the fuse, the ignition switch, the brake switch, and brake to the starter solenoid.
Let us know what you find.

If you don’t Drive it every day the speedometer has a tendency to draw juice from the battery because of searching for satellite

rsmurano 05-13-2024 05:21 AM

Instead of guessing, take the battery out and take it to advanced auto, or to o’reillys auto and have the battery checked. If the battery is dead, take it straight to the dealer you bought it from and have them replace it. If the battery is good, start checking for loose connections, bad wiring. If you bought it new from the villages golf stores, it comes with a year of cart pickup and/or towing service and let the dealer worry about it.

Most likely your spark arrester is plugged.

Most likely your spark arrester is plugged. A California mandate. You can try removing it and all should be fine.

Village Golf Carts told us to install a battery disconnect when leaving our cart for extended periods of time on our new Yamaha gas purchase.

Accidental1 05-13-2024 06:19 AM

I had the same problem. If you have the battery disconnect device recommended by The Villages Golf Cars, I’d have it removed. When I removed mine, the problem went away.

My problem was the battery disconnect was not screwed down tight enough.

Alternator

mpelant 05-13-2024 07:33 AM

We had the exact same problem on our 2023 Yamaha. As someone else posted, it was the battery disconnect (top of the battery, round). Ours was a little loose. Tightened it down and haven't had a problem since.

Have you checked the muffler belt? OR you could call a cart mechanic to come out and have a look.

jimkerr 05-13-2024 08:34 AM

If you have a battery disconnect, make sure it is secured tightly and not loose. The same goes for both the negative and positive wires on your battery. Make sure they are tight and not loose.

Do you have any accessories that could be drawing power even when the golf cart is off? If so, I would look into that a little more.

If you don’t get anywhere after checking these things, I would just set up an appointment wherever you bought your cart and have them diagnose it.

Muffler belt? If you believe there is such a thing you most definitely need to call a qualified mechanic!

djlnc 05-13-2024 01:57 PM

I think he meant the muffler clutch.

Maybe the muffler "spark arrestor"??

Papa_lecki 05-13-2024 02:34 PM

It’s either the ball bearings or the Fetzer valve.
I would guess it’s the ball bearings. It’s all ball bearings now a days.

I can’t see how balls have any bearing on the problem?

billdozer 05-13-2024 05:15 PM

My muffler has a chain drive. the last longer than a belt.

And the heat from the muffler won’t melt the chain : )

I had a similar problem, fortunately I addressed it with the Villages Golf Cart just before the end of our 1st year. They replaced the battery noting an old manufacturers date on the battery we received with our brand new cart. Have not had a problem since, hope this helps. Good Luck
