Thks. Super bummer. By pro shop. There’s sort of a maintenance shack. The gal whose speaker was taken too- her cart was all zipped up! Brazen Bums!

dewilson58 05-14-2024 08:34 AM

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Dam, I always thought things were safe in the golf cart parking area by the pro shop and never take precautions there. I was thinking you might have been in the big parking lot in front of the clubhouse/resturant parked commingled with the cars. That is very concerning. I hope you find your clubs and that the duechbag who stole them gets what they deserve.

JGibson 05-14-2024 09:44 AM

Yet people laugh at me with my locking cover and Kryptonite cable attached to cart, not to add the AirTags hidden in the bag.

I'm sorry for your loss as I know PXG are not cheap. I would check Craigslist, eBay, Nextdoor and even local golf shops like Edwin Watts as thieves sometimes trade in the clubs for something different and then sell that.

Michael 61 05-14-2024 09:49 AM

OP - so sorry to hear this. Any of us could be in your shoes.

Velvet 05-14-2024 10:25 AM

Even used PXG is worth good money. Unbelievable! Pro shop has no security cameras?

Keefelane66 05-14-2024 12:36 PM

I've always had a security cable with lock securing bag

No Bonifay has no cameras. First thing Detective checked.

He also said locks can be a deterrent but if they see locks the thieves brain says….. good clubs….they cut the cable. Gone!

Moral of story : Don’t stop for a beer!

I zip up the rain cover, so thief doesn’t see the brand of club - i figure cables can be locked.

Rain cover was zipped. If they want your clubs bad enough they will be gone.

Thks for all the tips. Have a list of places to check to see if they pop up.

Tvflguy 05-14-2024 04:21 PM

I plan to install an alarm on our new cart. To protect it and the clubs. It has a sensor for movement and loud DB alarm. I may also hook up my lithium battery directly to the bag’s handles. The badguys would get a jolt.

Wow! Rain cover on clubs and cart parked by maint shed? Someone definitely surveilled your clubs.

... and how about the gal who was all zipped, but thieves UNZIPPED her career to steal her speaker. Sounds unbelievable.
I'd suggest a tiny hidden camera, with phone monitoring, if this is the new normal.

Agree.

A Villager who wanted new clubs??
Golfers are always switching clubs between carts before & after a round.

Doubt they will show up on a site or at a pawn shop.

Beyond The Wall 05-15-2024 05:57 AM

Suggestion

It is the world we live in. I have Apple AirTag glued inside one of the pockets of our bags. Park in the back of the CC where trucks can not drive. If no spaces available ,We try to back in to spot or park back to back to make access harder. Have long bike cable that connect to cart , winds through bags and bar on rear pull down cart cover . Make it harder to take bag and clubs since you can not lift cover to gain access.
Most thief’s want quick hit and go. Hopefully they pass me by

Or stop playing golf and just go for beers. ;-). Just kidding, I’m sorry that happened to you. Shame you can’t feel comfortable leaving things in your cart.

I am not sure about this information but I would check with your insurance company, cart and homeowners as to wether the clubs are covered

Mistymom 05-15-2024 06:55 AM

I hope that you didn't have your garage door opener in your cart. Many people leave them on the dashboard and then if their name is anywhere in the cart, the thief has at the minimum access to their garage, maybe even house.

Kamaaina 05-15-2024 07:01 AM

AirTag

Place hidden AirTags in your cart and golf bag. Also place one in your car and suitcases when traveling.

graciegirl 05-15-2024 07:04 AM

Things are changing and just recently there are new folks who are low lives living way too close to us in The Villages. Crime is up in surrounding areas of Lake Nona, Ocala, and Leesburg. I see people walking along the cart path now on 466 that I know don't live here. Be very careful. Buy a security camera if you don't have one. Keep your garage door closed and your doors locked.

Irishfxm 05-15-2024 07:14 AM

If you have an iPhone try inserting/dropping an AirTag(about the size of a quarter) into your bag. Can track your bag anywhere and see where it is located. Don’t go alone. Have a sheriff go with you so you don’t get ruffed up.

Are they covered under your home owners insurance?

Will your home owners insurance cover this loss?

I must have been foolish enough to leave my sky caddie in the cart - can't find it

Brilliant idea. It won't kill them (something that is important to some, me not so much:D) but it will send a message if nothing else. I know it works for my horse.

UpNorth 05-15-2024 11:39 AM

Probably not a good idea to "advertise" your clubs with a fancy logo bag and headcovers that scream "$600 driver". Go generic.

Tonyinthevillages 05-15-2024 12:00 PM

Apple Air Tag

You may want to consider in the future getting an Apple Air Tag for tracking valuable such as Golf Bags. Carts and so on .

Without knowing exactly where you were is it possible that you could have been near a store, or business that has cameras? Maybe there is an off chance that the thief could be found this way? I know it's a long shot but wanted to mention my thought.

Learned over 14 year’s ago, don’t trust anyone, anywhere, or anytime. Especially out of The Villages!

DARFAP 05-15-2024 08:07 PM

If it was a PXG bag, rain cover won't help.
