Favorite James Stewart film?

I really like the movie and the play "Harvey". I nothing but wonder why! I saw the play Harvey at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis around 1990.

‘Who Shot Liberty Valance’ but really, all of them.

bmcgowan13 05-20-2024 08:42 PM

It's a Wonderful Life with Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore, directed by Frank Capra. A Christmas classic and one of the best films of all time.

End of discussion...:MOJE_whot:

Everyone else is wrong....:clap2:

I am be biased...I have only seen it close to 50 times...

Clarence: Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?

I watch it every Christmas Eve. My favorite day of the year..

Ecuadog 05-20-2024 09:42 PM

Can't pick just one. He was the greatest.

FFlank 05-21-2024 01:11 AM

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. A classic. And, not a bad song too.

ThirdOfFive 05-21-2024 05:01 AM

Hard to pick just one, but mine (in no particular order) would be "The Spirit of St. Louis" and "It's a Wonderful Life". Though it was a small part, I also really like his portrayal of Doc Hostetler in "The Shootist".

Liberty Valance but lots of great pictures, and he also fought for our country

Flight of the Phoenix

collector0915 05-21-2024 06:36 PM

My favorite James Stewart movie? A tie between "Rear Window" and "The Man Who Knew Too Much." Both are Hitchcock classics with plenty of suspense and drama.

Love the way The Shootist started, showing old John Wayne clips. Such a fitting end to a great career. Including the old guys, was just icing on the cake.

I want to adjust my vote every time another posts. They are all great (not good-great). How did I forget Rear Window with (heavy sigh...) Grace Kelly.

Now that I think of it did that man ever make a bad movie?

What a stand up guy--flew B24's in 20 combat missions in WWII. He retired as a Brigadier General. "It's a Wonderful Life" was his first movie after he served.

Although Mr. Stuart won his only Oscar for The Philadelphia Story" he has said It's a Wonderful Life was his personal favorite.

Every now and then you stand back and admire some of the amazing and truly talented people in this country.

He was an admirable person on so many levels.

My favorite James Stewart is any of Rich Littles portrayals of him on the Dean Martin Roasts!

Cuervo 05-22-2024 04:25 AM

One of my favorites is "Bell, Book and Candle"
It's a romantic comedy with a great cast.

Ignatz 05-22-2024 05:16 AM

I really enjoy watching the Glenn Miller movie. Love the story, the music, and the actors.

Canada friends 05-22-2024 06:12 AM

Can’t beat It’a a wonderful life..but close second is Rear Window

RetiredCPA 05-22-2024 07:16 AM

Our stumbling mumbling best actor didn’t make bad movie that I know of.
All of the mentioned movies are great but let’s not forget Rear Window and Vertigo.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I saw it as a kid and wanted to be a politician. Dressed up as the President of the USA for Halloween that same year.

LuvNH 05-29-2024 06:07 AM

The Man who knew too much with Doris Day, and Vertigo with Kim Novak. Both movies were much "darker" than they appeared.

I loved everything James Stewart did, plus he always seemed to have an excellent supporting cast.

PugMom 05-30-2024 09:22 AM

one reason i enjoy LibertyValance so much is watching half the cast of the andy griffith show in the movie. ernest t bass acting like well, ernest t bass, Mr Darling, & henry the jinx. come to me off the top of my head.
