We’ve used ACI Irrigation and were happy with them. Have also heard good things about Water Wizards.

Exotic Sprinkler Service
Quintin Shuler +1 (352) 444-9753 |
When we moved in we used Massey. In the year we dealt with them had highest water usage and sent 5 different guys who set up our zones 5 different ways.
Asked them to send a supervisor who would do it as we wanted and they ignored me. Asked them to tell me next time they would come so I could see how they did it and that never happened either. After a year I said goodbye and have a neighbor who knows what he is doing handle our system. I would recommend him but he has told me repeatedly he has enough business |
Joe Tucker is great. Phone is 352-430-5615. I have used him for probably 10 years. He works in all sections of the Villages.

I used this service.
SprinkleRight - Sprinkler Repair, System Tune Up (352) 235-9829 Tyler did a good job of repairing and cleaning out my sprinkler system. Very reasonable prices. |
If you have a Hunter controller, download and print the user manual from the Hunter website. Read it and set up and adjust the controller yourself. There are so many different controllers that even the best technicians will not be familiar with your specific one. I use Massey for regular maintenance of the outside sprinklers, but I do not allow them to touch the controller. They come once per quarter for $40, and they are available to make repairs when needed for a nominal charge. If you don't have a regular maintenance agreement, you may have trouble getting a timely repair at a reasonable cost.

We've used Simply Sprinklers 3 times, Brent Mauriell 352-250-2573. Highly recommend. He accesses and then tells you what he suggests.

F.L.I. Irrigation they are truly irrigation experts. I have been using them for 12 years. The prices are fair when you call you will probably have to leave a message on the answering machine, but they definitely will get back to you in a day or two set up an appointment and keep the appointment. you can get information about them in the classified sections of the local paper. Aside from regular maintenance on the irrigation system, they are experts at detecting and fixing leaks which I did have a leak somewhere underground in the past and they found it promptly and repaired it.

Good question I am still waiting on Massey to come out and adjust the sprinklers that are not working properly. The woman who initially came by to help and give me a sprinkler assessment seemed knowledgeable and was very helpful and I have learned how to operate and adjust my sprinklers through the box. I called after 3 weeks and she said they were backlogged but should be coming out soon. I plan to learn more about these issues since I'd rather do things myself when applicable. If it doesn't work with Massey at least I see some alternative companies in this thread.
How I found them was through another person who pays them to quarterly check all their sprinklers to make sure they aren't getting clogged. One of mine clogged and spouted a gusher. About half of the rest aren't putting out properly and may be slightly clogged. I have since put in 24 donuts myself to clear the grass from around them. I am learning about sprinklers in the meantime since it's my first home sprinkler system. |
We use Water Wizards. Phillip Pearson is their technician. Very nice person that checked our system and then made recommendations. Might take a few weeks for them to come out. This is the busy season. I think worth the wait.

Goodwin Sprinkler Repairs

Why don’t you do it yourself? It’s very easy to clean each head or even replace the whole sprinkler. 99% of the time you have issues with a clogged head or damaged sprinkler.
My suggestion, get rid of the hunter controller and get a smart controller. I’ve used the orbit b-hyve controller in my last 3 houses and have converted a dozen of my friends and neighbors to it. This controller is around $50-$60 and takes 5 mins to replace the hunter. It will take you 30-60 mins to configure the controller, all thru your phone. Now your phone/tablet can control the controller. You setup this controller to get realtime info about the weather from a local weather station or your own personal weather station. I decided to put in a personal weather station so my b-hyve controller get more accurate realtime info to adjust the timing of each station and when to water. This controller will save your many gallons of water per month over using a dumb controller like the hunter. Don’t fall for getting the Wand wifi addition to your hunter controller. It costs around $150-$200 and I went thru 2 of them and they were flakey so I sent them back and sold the hunter. |

First service experience we had: A rupture on our main sprinkler line on a Sunday. He tried to help over the phone but once we realized it was over my pay grade, he showed up and problem solved. Highly recommend: Anthony Butts (352) 454-7990 |

I have used American Irrigation for several years -- knowledgable, honest and reliable.
The number is: 407-910-2111. |
I think it is a good idea to have an ongoing maintenance service with a company who will respond quickly when you have a leak, and who will make small repairs for a nominal charge, especially if you are a snowbird. If you don't, it may be difficult to get someone to come out and they may charge a few hundred dollars for a minor repair. Massey is not the best company, but I only pay them $40 per quarter to check the system, and when I have a leak, they're respond quickly, and will often repair a small leak for free. When you have a geyser in your yard because of a broken sprinkler, you don't want to be shopping around for a sprinkler company.

I use and recommend ACi Irrigation and ask for Ivan. Phone: (352) 648-2783. Initial service and tuneup call was $85 plus cost of any replacement parts, if needed. If any lines or heads need to be relocated there is a reasonable labor charge per task. Annual maintenance program is available for $50 per quarterly visit. I also recommend that you replace your old, non-WiFi Hunter controller (if that’s what you have) with a Smart, WiFi enabled Rachio 3 controller that monitors and automatically alters scheduled cycles based on local weather daily, including any personal weather stations in your specific Village or nearby. This is what several of my neighbors and I have and it all works out well for us.

Can we tap your expertise?
This discussion is primarily about sprinkler heads. Rain Bird Rotors or Hunter Spray.
The rotors send out more water and the hunter spray less. So the Hunters have to be on 4 times as long to get the same water. And does that water reach the root zone as much as it is like rain water. Zoysia grass requires at least 1 inch of water per week. Zoysia roots are down lower than St. Augustine. Hunter spray seems to work better on St Augustine than on Zoysia. Rain Bird rotors seem to work better on Zoysia. I put water catchers in each zone of the lawn and got .3 inches with 10 minutes of a rotor. With the spray I got less than .1 inch. I have used the spray on St Augustine in the past and they worked fine. Rotors seem to work best on zoysia, deeper roots. I have never found the sprayers saved any water or money. The grass requires what the grass requires. The argument that heavier water will puddle and cause disease, BUT, water doesn't puddle that much in sandy soils. As you can see, I think part of the problem with zoysia is using the sprays. It never gets enough water to the root. I also measured rainfall and when they said it rained an inch, my measure only showed .1 that got into the ground. What are your thoughts on this........??? thanks. :ho: Quote:

Taken care of my own irrigation system since 2019, I just make sure it is up and running. PS: Donuts are for nozzle protection, don’t need to clean out on a regular basis.

If your physically able then watch the many Youtube videos that will help you with your irrigation problems. You'd be surprised how many of them are easy to fix once you learn how to do it. You'll also get that great satfisfaction of "I did it!"

If you are here best, learn to do it yourself. Parts are available at ACE hardware and the rest is easy. Watch the grass if it’s brown increase water, if the irrigation bill is too high decrease your watering.
|
I also have Rachio and have the Tempest weather station in my yard. It communicates with my Rachio.
