Russia's Show of force off the coast of Cuba

Is anyone concerned about Russia's show of force off the coast of Cuba, just 100 miles from Florida. Wasn't it just a drill that Russia performed around the border of Ukraine?

Three Russian ships and one nuclear submarine headed to Cuba for military drills

Stu from NYC 06-13-2024 08:07 AM

A handful of ships to me is not a show of force just a reminder that Russia has military power.

Keefelane66 06-13-2024 08:10 AM

Well, they are safer there than in the Black Sea.

gatorbill1 06-13-2024 08:14 AM

I hope they don't call me back for another blockade of Cuba. Been there done that.

MrFlorida 06-13-2024 02:54 PM

They have their hands full right now, I don't think they want a war with us.

"Just" being the operative word with the present situation in Ukraine.

Caymus 06-13-2024 04:29 PM

The missiles of "June"?

Russia has so much confidence in their navy that they have to send a rescue tug to accompany a frigate and a submarine.

Not really a big deal IMHO. Show of force, we did it all the time in the Med, probably still do. They would cut across our bow in a game of chicken. International waters, so let them play their games under a watchful eye.
Their surface fleet isn't all that great, sub force ..... well that's another story. They don't even have a capable aircraft carrier.

My concern or lack of concern will have no impact on what happens.

I learned a long time ago not to worry about things that I have no control over.

MorTech 06-14-2024 01:45 AM

It really isn't a show of force...more like a "how do you like it?"

Rwirish 06-14-2024 04:54 AM

No concern at all.

The nuclear sub is a big show of force. That one sub can wipe out at least 10 states!

I was on the Saratoga during the Cuban blockade.

Russia is ****ed that we are giving weapons to the Ukraine which is allowing the war with them to go on as long as it has. I think the naval show of force in Cuba is letting us know just how ****ed Russia is and it’s there way of sending us a message.

No not at all , we have a space force 100 miles up tracking the Russians.. our military has the capability of fighting Russia , China , Iran and more all at the same time and winning .

Yes, the U.S. Space Force has several systems that can help shoot down missiles, including satellites, ground-based interceptors, and other systems:

Besides Americans own 600 million weapons .

Additionally The Russian citizens don’t want their sons and daughters dying for their communist country , this is true in Iran ( their citizens hate their brutal regime government) . They have lost a lot of young men in Afghanistan ( lost that war ) Ukraine , Russia is weak . Have military that don’t want to be there.
Trump bombed Russians in Syria responsible for using poisonous toxic gas on Syrian’s . The Russian
president Putin did not and could not retaliate.

Heytubes 06-14-2024 07:36 AM

Couple days ago on my cruise southwest of Cuba I saw more than the three Russian subs. Will look again on my way back Saturday to see how many are still hanging.

If the US can do drills, why can't Russia?

Last I checked, we weren't at war with Cuba. Unlike Russia who is at war with Ukraine...

Dlbonivich 06-14-2024 08:37 AM

I went to Cuba when they opened it to the US. We stayed with a family in Havana. There was a Russian ship ported while we were there. No war games. The Navy soldiers were all in Havana. It was kind of strange to see so close to the US.

billethkid 06-14-2024 09:12 AM

Where was all the concern when this "show of force" was under way toward Cuba?

Easy. The media didn't have it yet. Now they have it and spinning it as per usual.

Not at all concerned.

The USA does this all over the world. Naval exercises are just to remind potential enemies of their power.

Russia is not the backward country it once was.

WE are the ones threatening Russia with our Ukrainian proxy war. NATO is now planning attacks behind the Russian border. Putin has promised incineration if we do this.

I know real news is blocked but things ARE heating up in the world and people have a right to know.

bowlingal 06-14-2024 10:10 AM

Do you really think Russia is going to attack us?? We would blow them off the face of the earth

Steve Imrisek 06-14-2024 11:11 AM

My Cuba visits are small.......... Gitmo, we flew mail and sailors there in the 80's when I was flying. Small base at that time but for the Russians Havana would be the equivalent for US sailors being in Olongapo Philippines during VN.
Sailors dream for them without doubt.

Do some research.
The people outside of Moscow and other major cities practically still live in the Stone Age.
The only thing they have that is a major threat is their nuclear weaponry, but to use it means they get wiped off the map as well.
They are also a major force in hacking and disinformation.
As shown by their incredible losses, and poor tactics in Ukraine, their ground army isn't a major threat to NATO, but possibly could be a problem to Lichtenstein!

Red Rose 06-14-2024 12:36 PM

It’s very concerning to me. I don’t want them that close to our shores.

Taltarzac725 06-14-2024 12:53 PM

They are often close to our shores up around Alaska. Russia is pretty close to some of the far west Alaskan Islands.

And the subs could often be close in International Waters.

Byte1 06-14-2024 01:02 PM

Not really concerned. We have a 12 mile limit on our coast and we all know that Russian subs and intelligence gathering "fishing" boats are spying 24/7 on us from our coastal waters. We can hardly control NON-American countries and who they allow in their coastal waters. Am I concerned? Not really. If they had nefarious plans, I am sure they could do it via their submarines.

Conspiracy theory

Taltarzac725 06-14-2024 01:11 PM

How fast are the nuclear weapons in various subs? Some sub in Cuba is not a big worry especially if it does not have nuclear weapons.

I see they travel at 15,000 miles per hour. Some missiles out there could be faster.

MorTech 06-15-2024 03:56 AM

Maybe It is just Russia's version of the Monroe Doctrine.

China will follow! China's next move is to befriend Russia with free lunches, and then present the bill! China watches every move Russia makes.

So in today’s news I read that the Canadian navy docked a ship at Havana, and the American navy docked an attack sub at Guantanamo.

ElLegal 06-15-2024 10:56 AM

In the Navy back in the 70s, on a destroyer. We had nuclear capabilities, and carried ASROC nuclear depth charges at all times. It’s What military ships do. A couple of ships is not a show of force
