Restaurant where you can hear a conversation

Just enjoyed another fabulous meal at Paulie's The Oaks Restaurant off Rt. 44 within the Continental Country Club property. A really nice dining experience where the tables are spaced far enough apart that you can carry on a conversation and be heard without raising your voice. Meals were all delicious, Service was excellent, and the Restaurateur, Paulie, knows how to be successful. Check out the menu at: paulies at the oaks on 44 dot com ...

This is boring. I thought we were going to a restaurant to listen to other people's conversations.

Been there a couple of times and their brisket was excellent

Need to put that place back on my list, reminds me of dining at specialty restaurants on a cruise ship.

JMintzer 06-13-2024 06:35 PM

Ate there once. The food, while good, was nothing exceptional.

The decor and ambiance reminded me of a very dated country club that would not accept me as a member some 50-60 years ago...

Looks OK, but in 9 years of being Villagers we have eaten out a grand total of one time at a place that’s not golf cart accessible.

Wow do think that the best restaurants around here are not golf cart accessible

justjim 06-13-2024 10:37 PM

We are definitely fans of The Oaks. Nice atmosphere, excellent service and both times we had dinner the food was very good. I understand Paulie use to be at the Rose Plantation in Fruitland Park prior to starting his own restaurant at The Oaks. It’s conveniently located on State Route 44 just west of Morse Blvd in Continental Country Club.

This is funny because just today my husband said he wished he could have some chicken livers in brown gravy and just like that, here it is! I wonder can you get dinner items for lunch?

Limited hours for lunch

La lamy 06-15-2024 04:55 AM

The restaurant looks nice from the picture, but $22.50 for 1 crab cake starter?!! Or $42.50 for crab cakes as an entree?!!! That's probably just 2 of them. I don't mind paying for a quality meal once in a blue moon, but just those 2 prices make me shake my head.

Please tell me you are joking... If you are not comfortable driving in the area, take an Uber ...I really hope you are pulling our legs.

Yes I’ve had the experience going out for a romantic dinner only to have a band or karaoke blasting away. No fault of the restaurant but mine for not doing research in advance.

IMO they are the best crab cakes I have had since moving from the north. No filler just crab. Like my mom would say, "you get what you pay for".

jedalton 06-15-2024 06:13 AM

We love it also

Very good. Quiet. They do charge a fee for credit card usage

I agree on both food and ambiance! Went there for the first time this week - had the Rigatoni a la vodka - sauce had no flavor, peas were rock hard and the pasta was so overcooked it was shredding.

Livin’ the Dream 06-15-2024 07:00 AM

On Wednesday nights, Evan’s Prairie now has a one-man band blasting away inside the bar. It’s hard to hold a conversation. Ugh! 😩

dtennent 06-15-2024 07:23 AM

What is the wine list like?

If it's not as good as when you were up north, then it's not worth $21 for 1 cake. We paid $7.99 for an appetizer cake up north, it was mostly FRESH (not previously frozen) Maryland crab, just enough bread crumbs, mayo and mustard to bind it all into a cake. Even if you had to pay double that because it's in Florida, that's still only $16, not $21.

LonnyP 06-15-2024 07:49 AM

Shhhhhh. Best kept secret near the Villages.

jojoturf 06-15-2024 07:57 AM

On our best restaurant list! And love the wallpaper — feels like old Florida ambience. Food & piano music is always good.

Peazoup 06-15-2024 08:14 AM

Chicken livers

RedSauce for the best chicken livers. On the menu as appetizer but IMO enough for dinner.

That price is close to Maryland Seafood Restaurants (home of the Crab Cake...)

But most of the MD places are "Crab houses", with craft paper table cloths, where they dump a dozen crabs on the table...

One of the best crab houses in Annapolis...

Just a moment...

The Oaks is a "real restaurant", not a crab house, so I'd expect slightly higher prices...

HORNET 06-15-2024 10:22 AM

Sounds like a commercial! Been there , and wasn’t impressed.

Why? Some people prefer to travel by golf cart. If a place is golf cart inaccessible, they are just out of luck.

Jimmy R. 06-15-2024 07:48 PM

We go often , the food and service are always on point. The decor reminds me of 40 years ago in a Catskill Mountains resort . Had the Chicken Parm this week and it was excellent.

If people like to only travel by golf cart that is their business.

Friday night I paid $49 for two crab cakes. Add on tip of 20% and tax.
Thats the going price. $42.50 is in the ballpark.

I can’t imagine living in The Villages and not having a car unless you don’t have a drivers license for some reason. The last information I saw there have been 12 fatalities while driving or riding in a golf cart inThe Villages. That said I can’t imagine not having a golf cart for relative short trips and, of course, if you are a golfer. To each their own.
