Favorite Phil Mickelson memory?
Happy Birthday this June 16, 2024. What is your favorite memory about Phil Mickelson? :gc:

Getting a fist pump from Phil when watching him live. I know it sounds cheesy, but he was so personable, it made it fun to feel ‘included’ in a way.
|
I liked seeing him choke all those times when he played with tiger

Tiger and Phil have played together 10 times, in the 4th round of a tournament. Phil shot the lower score 5 times. Tiger shot a lower score, 4 times. There was 1 tie. Phil won 2 of those tournaments, Tiger won 3 of those tournaments. Where were did all those "chokes" occur? Tiger vs. Phil, head-to-head results on Tour - NBC Sports |
If you're a Mickelson fan, this is worth the read. If you're not a fan, the article might give you a slightly different view of Philly Mick.
The Author has been a friend of mine for 20 years and was prominently mentioned in Alan Shipnuck's book "Phil". One story relating to a "friendly" $50,000 match and the other, related to what happened between Phil and Tom Watson, in the Ryder Cup Team Room. Weekend at Phil’s |
Knocking his putt off the green as it was still rolling. Classless display.

The article was defiantly worth the read. Always liked Phil and his time he takes with the fans.

Years ago in Duluth, GA prior to a PGA event at Sugarloaf CC I was new to golf and at a local driving range hacking with a new driver. This guy mounted the next space in front of me and many of the patrons were greeting him. I didn’t know who it was. He saw me hacking and asked if I wanted a tip. Of course I said yes. Guess he was afraid I was going to slice and hit him. That weekend I tuned into the tournament and found out it was none other than Phil. By the way, I no longer hack as much.

I have none. He’s a gambling arrogant chump in my opinion.

Sort of a Phil Memory
While at a serious business dinner in Japan with an important client the client looks over at me, and in a very Japanese-American accent, he says, "You rook just like Phirl Mickerson". We had a good laugh.

I'll bet not a single person on this thread, has ever met Phil or had any first hand experience with him. Every PGA Tour player owes Phil a huge thank you, for the Billion+ dollars he was able to help extract from the Tour. |

And I have met Phil. Truly a great guy. I remember him standing in strong support of his wife during her battle with cancer. |

64 degree wedge shot
At Tiger’s tournament at Sherwood about 2005 on hole 15: Phil puts tee shot in water, hits from drop and lands about 15 yards from hole. Hole is tucked in corner. Phil is in about a foot of wet rough on a very steep hill. Phil pulls out his 64, swings as hard as he can and sticks the shot to 2 ft.
At Tiger’s tournament about 1999 at Grey Hawk. Phil is having a not so great round. On last hole the green is filled with hail stones. They ask if he wants the green raked. He says no. Pulls out wedge and sinks shot from about 60 ft. |
