2024 Olympics.

What events are you looking forward to watching? Athletes you follow?

retiredguy123 07-22-2024 05:28 PM

Honestly, none. I have no interest whatsoever.

Swimming. I am also expecting a bump in competition for lanes at the sports pools when we all get inspired to swim more.

Swimming and basketball for me, gymnastics for my wife.

OrangeBlossomBaby 07-22-2024 09:13 PM

Gymnastics, definitely.

Two Bills 07-23-2024 02:12 AM

Weightlifting, athletics, for me, my wife loves the high jump.
But we think the whole thing is brilliant and will watch as much as possible.
If we could only get rid of 90% of the talking heads, who think they are the main event, coverage would be perfect.

I will definitely follow the women gymnasts.

Track and field

Normal 07-23-2024 03:14 PM

Definitely not Biles

Whenever Simone Biles appears, you can count me out. She quit on our country last Olympics and cost the US medals. I can’t believe they are even letting her compete again. Some Olympian…. But what a quitter lol

Two Bills 07-23-2024 03:35 PM

So the poor kid, who obviously cracked under the expectations and pressure of performing, is nothing more than a medal machine in your book.
Your post says more about your mindset, than Ms. Biles.
Not impressed.

Normal 07-23-2024 03:40 PM

Nope

Not really, I just picture Olympians as athletes that endure it all. Certainly not people that quit on their country.

MeKa 25 07-24-2024 06:01 AM

Wall Climbing. Have you seen it? It is a lot of fun to watch.

coconutmama 07-24-2024 07:07 AM

Aquatics, especially the diving events. Plus equestrian if I get up early enough. Gymnastics, both men’s & women’s. A bit of the triathlon as well.

We might take a peek at some of the new events to see why they are included

GATORBILL66 07-24-2024 07:09 AM

Refuse to watch them. Once they made Labron a flag bearer, I'm done with them. Labron wanted all Americans to knee for the anthem. He is anti America!

retiredguy123 07-24-2024 07:13 AM

I like to watch golf tournaments on TV. But, golf as an Olympic sport is ridiculous.

Apparently you don't realize how dangerous what Ms. Biles does is, or you would never make a comment like that.

airstreamingypsy 07-24-2024 07:16 AM

That only events that I'm interested in is Equestrian events. The olympics have gotten silly with ribbon twirling and break dancing.....

Caymus 07-24-2024 07:37 AM

More than 300,000 condoms were ordered for the event. I wonder how they have the energy to compete. My High School Coaches would tell us to "abstain" before the big games. :)

On the other hand, the beds are made with cardboard which may counterbalance the frequency.

Normal 07-24-2024 07:47 AM

An athlete, a true athlete, has a zone, an internal place to go to when the competition is on. It requires physical, mental and emotional fortitude. Biles stated herself that she wasn’t there mentally or emotionally. She should never have gone, and she should never have let down her team or her country.

Disgusting comment. She didn't cost the US anything, we replaced her with another gymnast who was physically able to compete.

As for your suggestion that she has not been a successful Olympian, well 4 golds, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals have been won by Biles, as well as

"Biles is a six-time World all-around champion (2013–2015, 2018–2019, 2023), six-time World floor exercise champion (2013–2015, 2018–2019, 2023), four-time World balance beam champion (2014–2015, 2019, 2023), two-time World vault champion (2018–2019), nine-time United States national all-around champion (2013–2016, 2018–2019, 2021, 2023–2024), and was a member of the gold medal-winning American teams at the 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also a four-time World silver medalist (2013–2014 and 2023 on vault, 2018 on uneven bars) and a three-time World bronze medalist (2015 on vault, 2013 and 2018 on balance beam)."

If that resume defines a quitter, we should have lots more quitters. Are you sure there isn't something else about her that gets you upset?

I wonder where they will store all that? Do they hand them out when the athletes check in? Or have a runner for delivering them as needed? Makes you wonder.

The rooms don't have air conditioning, so I think they put water in them, freeze them, then put them under their pillow at night...

I so agree...not only she cost us a metal but there are other girls who could have gone in her place and had the Olympic experience.

They are having break dancing this year!

LeRoySmith 07-24-2024 10:34 AM

I haven't watched the Olympics for several years but I hope I can catch the opening ceremonies this year. I hope someone accidentally and barely bumps into LeFlop as they are entering the stadium. I wanna see how far he can fly with a flag in his hands.

On the bright side he is a perfect example of what we are devolving into.

With all the talent the WNBA now has, Taurasi should have never been chosen, as well as others. (All Star game, Olympic team was creamed!) She’s had her deserved time in the spotlight. Yes, go UConn! Now not selecting CC was a travesty. She’s the one that literally changing the sport, for the better. Charter air travel comes to mind. More players getting endorsements is another. She helping out in countless ways, if only the league would pull their head out of their @$$ and work WITH her, not AGAINST her.

Three other gymnasts replaced her in other disciplines.

Swimming and Soccer

Swimming and soccer are our sports. Both boys played soccer through high school and college. It was great to watch. We have also attended many swim meets. Butterfly and breaststroke are our faves.

Velvet 07-24-2024 01:58 PM

Diving, swimming (used to be on university teams). Water polo. Gymnastics… etc there really is no sport at the Olympic level that does not fascinate me. I just turn the tv on when it begins including opening ceremonies and turn it off when it ends.

Sandancer 07-24-2024 03:12 PM

Tennis-Rafa Nadal----his last hurrah!!!

La lamy 07-25-2024 06:38 AM

Women gymnastics, tennis, 100 meter track, trampoline if they still have it. Some swimming, rowing, high jump, diving. I'll basically be glued to my TV!!

They still have trampoline.

Caymus 07-26-2024 10:43 AM

Looks like they lost the rail system due to sabotage. A quest on CNBC this morning described the venue as being in a war zone with all the police and barriers. Hopefully the opening ceremonies will go off safely.

Taltarzac725 07-27-2024 09:02 AM

What a great opening ceremony in Paris last night.:BigApplause:
