Auto Zone or equivalent

Sumter County hosts "amnesty day" a couple of times per year. You can get rid of old electronics, paint, used motor oil, etc., for free. It is hosted at various places: the Sumter County fairgrounds, one of the lake parks, etc. It is usually well-publicized in advance.

Should be one coming up soon, I would think.

Call them at 352-689-4400. If they don't know when they can surely give you the number of someone who does.

Usually, you can take the used oil back to where you bought the new oil for recycling, if the store does not offer this service, I do not by there.

Walmart will take used oil, go to the auto dept.

Walmart, sign log and done. I also buy at Walmart seems they have lowest prices. I also save old jug and pour used oil in it haul it back to them.

That’s exactly how it should be however, the “local” golf car store will not take used oil even when you purchase new Yamalube from them. That really irked me so I have taken the same stance and won’t be buying anything from them in the future.

Lake co residents can go to the Convenience Center off Rolling Acres on Tues and Saturdays to dump used oil for free.

The Auto Parts store loves to
accept your dirty oil.. also termites hate used motor oil..

We Live in Lake County and my husband just did this. The county has a recycling facility. They took the motor oil.

I asked the Walmart off of US 27 in Summerfield & they said IT MUST BE IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER but I use a large oil container to drain and transfer to be recycled.

So far I only have 1 qt from my golf cart but later I will change my car’s oil & will need to recycle all of it,

Has anyone been successful doing this in the TV area? If so, where have you recycled? I had no problems when I lived up north. Either I or a sales person would take my container and pour the used oil into their big oil recycle container.

I have similar container to catch used oil, not the hard to pour it back into empty 5 quart containers it comes in. Or one quart container. I tried to take back to auto parts store, was pain, you have to wait for sales person to take it to back and empty it, not priority over paying customers, breaks, or telephone calls. Walmart walk in with oil in approved containers record information in log and done it 3 or 4 minutes. Reason they want it in approved containers so it won’t leak, crack, burst so they don’t have oil slick to clean up.

Most oil change businesses take it too.

Auto Zone, Advance Auto or O’Rielly will take old used oil & no charge, just drop it off.

I collect mine and take it to the mechanic when I get the oil changed to add to their discarded oil.

I’m not sure I follow the logic here. Buy the oil where the cost is lowest. You can always bring used oil to Advance Auto or Auto Zone even if you don’t buy it there. They have multiple locations around The Villages. Walmart has good prices on oil and they will do next day delivery to your house for no charge.

I find this comment offending. Reminds me of a friend who lived here for over 20 years (recently died). This man was an electrical engineer, brilliant, had several patents to his credit, Heavily involved in the development of GPS.

He also did his own maintenance on his vehicles. My husband asked him where he took his used motor oil (after we moved here). His response was, "my pest control system". He poured it all around the perimeter of his house. My spouse was not a happy camper with this response. I still get upset when I think about it, perhaps you can tell....LOL

I take all of mine to O’Reilly in Wildwood. Doesn’t have to be in the same container the oil came in.

Just curious, do any places accept the used oil without having to go inside the store and wait in line?

People in the Villages change their own oil? Wow. My neighbors think I'm weird for mowing my own lawn!

I don't think I've changed the oil in a car in 20 years. Heck, on my Kia, I'd have to remove a giant floorpan just to get to the drain plug. In fact, the last time I took it to the "5 Minute" guys, they left half the bolts off and it came loose a block from the store, and just about destroyed it. I couldn't believe I'd managed to pick the last oil change outfit on the planet that hasn't yet discovered the vacuum method.

I do change my own golf cart oil, though. But since it's only one quart, I just put it back into the bottle it came in, and keep it to use in the chainsaw-on-a-stick that I use to trim my palm trees.

I save the old oil until my next drive up north. I bring it up north in the back of my truck and drop it off at the trash transfer station where they use it to heat the building in the winter.

I find your comment offensive....... I would advise you to pick up a dictionary before you make a rude response......
I tried to copy/paste from 5-6 different dictionaries but none would allow the C/P so you will have to look it up yourself....
It's never too late to learn.....

When I retired I had the same attitude not going change my own oil. That attitude quickly got checked when most all places I when couldn’t or wouldn’t change oil correctly. If I was you I follow up see if they are smart enough to pull dipstick out and check oil level. I found the they just dump oil in and overfill most of time. Only couple places I trusted cause when I followed up on their work I couldn’t find any problems. Loose bolts over filled level enough for me to never return or recommend.
