Obviously, trash pick up has been cancelled today.

From an announcement on districtgov.org dated 6:45am today:

SANITATION
Waste management routes have been cancelled for Monday, August 5, 2024. There will be double pick-up on Thursday, August 8, 2024 for impacted residents.

I don't recall seeing any similar message earlier than that.

Thanks a lot. Now I need to return the garbage back into the house.

Yeah, I checked late afternoon on Sunday.

I wish trash pickup was just on one day per week! we have no kids,and sometimes the only trash we have, is left over Salad & Soup we brought home from the Olive Garden..

Putting trash out is an option, there are no trash police coming around to make sure you put a bag out every time.

We often skip a day - no reason to make the guys jump off the truck for less than half a bag. Plus, it saves a couple of pennies (real soon now I'll have enough to buy an extra beer at happy hour)

Ours was picked up this morning in St. Catherine.

Tri county is picking up trash. District 13 guys waved as they picked up at 3 houses on our street

I guess they decided to pick up trash after all - I’m in district 13 - “they” send out notification pickup was cancelled, yet they are picking up - confusing.

6:45 am is a little late to make this decision and post it.
Mine is usually gone by 6 am…so I put it out last night. As soon as the rain subsides I’ll go drag it back in.

WM is running their route now in Richmond?

Waste Management sent the notification they had canceled their route. Richmond has Tri county

We have Waste Management and got picked up. Evidently the office people neglected to let the operations people know that they had the day off.

There are multiple companies that pick up trash: Sumter Sanitation, Tri-County Sanitation, and Waste Management are three. It is important to know which company services your area, mine is Sumter Sanitation.

The 6:45am message was probably poorly worded. It probably should have specified that Sumter Sanitation had canceled. Using the term "Waste management" in the message was confusing. The new 9:50 message includes:

SANITATION: All Sumter Sanitation routes have been canceled for Monday, August 5, 2024. For those affected, collection will occur on the next scheduled collection day.

All scheduled Waste Management routes have been launched; however, based on current weather conditions, materials that are not curbside during regular collection pass will be serviced on the next regular collection day.

And yes, 9:50 is a bit late for a notice. The best use for this message is to explain why your bags are still in your driveway.
