Just my two cents, my neighbor asked him to see his "commercial insurance coverage he is required to have, well he couldn't provide it. So neighbor went on sunbiz.org to see if he was a state of Florida licensed service, NOPE, nothing there. I wouldn't entertain a "one car" operation, what if he gets behind on transports, who picks us up? I'll stick with the major private car services that have commercial insurance, licensing, multiple vehicles. So far, I found personally for us, we use Dave's Airport Transportation as they are made up of former LEO and there are others too. Blue Line Services also former LEO, VIP Transportation, CEO Transportation, Southern Oaks. Hope Premier works out for you.

Where is it required that a taxi service have commercial insurance or even a Florida business license? I can't find any of these requirements. Dave's Airport Transportation doesn't appear to have a Florida business license. If so, what is their business license number, so I can look it up on the official Florida license lookup website, " www.myfloridalicense.com". Whenever a company tells me they have a business license, I use this website to verify it. Note that you can have a registered corporation, but not a business license.

As I understand it, you can purchase a rideshare "rider" to your regular auto insurance policy that will extend your liability coverage to paying passengers.

Interesting point, as I recall most personal auto policies do NOT cover business use of the automobile, if there was an accident you may not be covered.

That is why you need to add a "rideshare rider" to the policy. Surprisingly, it really doesn't cost very much.

If you’re working under Uber as a driver for example, Uber covers you, the car and passengers. Be careful of the Uber or Lyft driver that wants to go “offline” to transport you because you could save money but the insurance is out the door. I never understood why people risk their well being using a one man band transportation service instead of commercial ones (Uber, Lyft, Groome, etc). By the time you tip the person you’re really not saving that much.

And yet, people travel around the world and use all types of transportation services and have no idea about what type of insurance, if any, the providers have.

So if you use Dave’s transportation, are you insured God forbid something happens?

Sunbiz.org is the state of Florida's business website. I looked it up to check Dave's Airport Transportation before we used them. Their licensing # is L18000277711 . Dave's when we asked provided us a copy of their commercial insurance too. Private car services must have permits to service airports and cruise ports, the ONLY way to obtain permits is that they must have commercial insurance policies, NOT auto policies! Research it, you are incorrect about rideshare being acceptable, they can't obtain the permits. Look at posts about Capri Transportation getting caught at Port Canaveral and leaving people stranded when the port authority caught them without permits.

Yes, because they are state registered and upon request, showed us their current commercial and general liability insurance. They are a actual company with 22 vehicles. Their drivers have been outstanding.

The number you provided is not a business license number. The official Florida website for business licenses is:

"www.myfloridalicense.com"

The sunbiz.org website is a listing of corporations, LLCs, etc. registered in Florida, not licensed businesses. I did not find a business license for Dave's on the license website. Obviously, if the airport requires a permit to pick up and drop off passengers, any company doing that should have a permit.

Respectfully, I am not going to debate this with you anymore until you figure out your mistaken. Your site is for Plumbers, Electricians, Tradesmen, etc. Sunbiz.org is for business corporations, etc. Their license shows that it is ACTIVE, their yearly reports to the state are up to date. End of story, get your facts straight. I also looked up some of their competitors, Blue Line Services, CEO Transportation, VIP Transportation, etc...

Ride share insurance
 

"Ride share rider" only covers your liability for occupants when you are transporting under the Uber or Lyft app, You cannot just add it to your personal policy...

I called my insurance agent just for clarification and she said that any private car service that services the airports/cruise ports must carry commercial insurance, that an auto policy has an exclusion when using for commercial business. Bill, you are totally correct. Sarah's exact words were "When using your personal vehicle for commercial profit", then the owner of the vehicle has to have one of those commercial policies. She told me for 1 car is about $12K/+/yr. Yikes, that's for 1 vehicle.

While I am sure that Dave's provides a good service, don't bother if you are not in the newer, more southern section of The Villages. They are Leesburg based and will not service anyone north (even if you are below 466).

That is not correct, we live by Lake Sumter Landing and have been using them for 5 1/2 years. They don't service NORTH OF 466.
