Lake Sumter Landing Traffic Light

Anyone know what is taking so long to repair the traffic light at the corner of Lake Sumter Landing and Lake Shore Drive?

No idea, but I hope it’s never used again. In my opinion, the intersection flows much better as a four way stop rather than the traffic light.

Are they planning to repair it, or just make that junction a four-way stop?

villagetinker 08-18-2024 07:31 PM

As I recall they are waiting for the delivery of some custom parts to repair the lights.

Totally agree. There is definitely no need for that light.

I also favor the 4-way stop option.

FWIW, I am a Professional Engineer with a Masters degree in Transportation Engineering.

4-way stop is the way to go for that intersection.

DITTO on the 4 way stop!! It sucks having to sit for 2 minutes in a hot golf cart waiting for the light to change.

I was in favor of letting it remain a 4 way stop but after nearly being hit 4 times by drivers running the stop signs I guess it won't matter as some will be running the red light when it's fixed anyway. Every body's in a hurry. I wouldn't even attempt to cross it as a pedestrian!

Thanks for a professional post..not a fan of that stoplight since 2010. Four way 🛑 hasn’t been an issue for us, I think some actually are pay more attention to safety with it.

A stop sign apparently doesn’t mean what it says to many of those in a cart or car. Of course, it gives our police officers a good chance to make some money for the county.

Present company excluded....not a big fan of municipal/state level engineers. There are some good ones but more often than not..they don't exercise a lot of basic common sense. I agree with the 4 way stop application. Let's hope the UPS truck with the 'expedited' parts....delivers it to Tulsa!

The Villages maintenance department couldn't find enough men to change the light bulb.

Are those STOP signs with or without the white line edging?

Can you do something about the rest of Florida's traffic lights? They are the only thing we hate about this state. For some reason they think they need to change about once every 1/2 hour. Man, it takes forever to get places waiting on Traffic lights almost everywhere...

I wouldn't mind at all seeing a reflective stop sign that has an indication that it's a 4-way stop. And reflective striping on the road AND on the curbs at that intersection. I think that'd be better than a traffic light.

I'd also love to see reflective curb striping throughout the Villages, at LEAST at every intersection.

Teed_Off 08-19-2024 03:27 PM

I would also vote in favor of having permanent four-way stop signs installed instead of traffic lights. I’ve noticed how much smoother vehicles respect and go through without the agony of waiting for the lights to change.

coffeebean 08-19-2024 03:35 PM

After reading the replies posted thus far, it had not dawned on me that four way stop signs would be a better option. Hmmmm. I think I like that.

I thought a round-a-bout was Florida’s answer to all things intersections! LOL

Heheh. If only there was more area available at the intersection, it very well could be. :)

Really do not need area for a junction to be a roundabout.
Same discipline as a large roundabout.
Give way to traffic from left.
Only problem would be, most Villagers do not give turn signals, or do not know what the turn switch is for, so could be mayhem.
Best stick to four way or traffic lights!
The roundabout system works well in most of the world, but in TV? :ohdear: :p

To be honest I didn't notice and don't understand the basis of the question?

Agree. I liken the roundabouts here (and many of its users) in TV to that of a failed science/social experiment!:1rotfl:
