Pods

Hello
I'm planning on moving to the Villages next year. Are Pods permitted to be parked in the driveway and is there a limit to how long it can be there??

They are allowed, for how long I can't remember but I'm sure long enough to get them unloaded. RV's are allowed 72 hours in the driveway for unloading or loading.

Topspinmo 08-26-2024 09:13 PM

I would imagine 3 days? But, who going to be monitoring it?

Might be easier to ask how long do you need to unload a couple of PODS into the garage (at minimum)? Do a search for posts of people that will help you unload them at a cost of course.

Why should they care if a few more days?

Yes it's always a good idea to impress your new neighbors by leaving a POD sit in your driveway for an extended period. It only takes a few hours to empty a POD into the garage unless you are not healthy then hire someone.

Laurawilcox 08-27-2024 06:33 AM

We were told 3 days, however, it had less to do with us and more with the timing of the Pod company picking them up. They pick them up on their schedule when they are others to pick up in this area. One was early another later by a couple of days. Neighbors were great. We even had one on the street that they were late getting to. I think 5 days.

BobnBev 08-27-2024 01:25 PM

As I understand it, you should NOT put PODS on a paver driveway, it will cause the pavers to crack, due to the weight.

Byte1 08-27-2024 01:36 PM

I don't know why your neighbors would be concerned if you had a POD in your driveway for a even a week or so. If they can't be understanding of a new neighbor (or one packing out) it is not a neighborhood worth residing in. PODs cost more for the length of time you keep them, so it's not like anyone wishes to spend more money just to allow their household goods to sit in a hot container. Like I said, if neighbors are concern about something so trivial, then they are not "neighbors." If they were "good neighbors" they would be over there offering their assistance. I've lived in two neighborhoods and the neighbors were exceptional in both.

asianthree 08-27-2024 01:43 PM

We scheduled our pod drop and pickup 36 hours later, otherwise we would have had to pay for another month of rental. We have never had a neighbor complain about a pod in the drive. In fact some stop and ask if you need help. Hopefully the neighbors who would complain about a pod, is the house you are moving out of.:girlneener:

Arlington2 08-27-2024 04:41 PM

We used PODs a few years ago with no problem. It was in the driveway for a couple of days before pickup. As others have mentioned neighbors were friendly and accommodating. If there happens to be an anonymous complaint you still have several days to resolve the issue. The complaint has to be filed, investigated and then given a time to resolve the problem.

If it was there for say 4-5 days why would that be a big deal. We are not as young as we used to be.

Because they have nothing else to do and just sit on their patios and stare around looking for something to complain about. Every street has a Gladys Kravitz and husband

Berwin 08-28-2024 05:28 AM

We needed two Pods when we moved here. Got the first one unloaded in two days and so called for the other one to be delivered and the first one picked up. Second one hadn't even been shipped from Virginia yet and they wouldn't pick up the first one until they were ready to deliver the second one. So, for all the commenters who say it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to clear your driveway, welcome to reality.

Very respectful question.
Restrictions did not account for PODs.
Be respectful to your neighbors, use common sense, you will be fine.

I'm getting a Pod delivered next Friday and they are picking it up the following Monday. They really didn't give me a choice as that is what their schedule dictated. I was going to call to see if that was OK but I figured it was in the 72 hour window so I should be OK.

I did see one house in my village that had a Pod in their driveway over a month.

Someone in my neighborhood has had two large pods filling their driveway for MONTHS. They are a block away from me and I only see them when I walk around the neighborhood, but I can’t believe it’s OK with those who live nearby. It looks terrible and seems really inconsiderate to me.

bshuler 08-28-2024 07:40 AM

From my Villages sales agent yesterday..

Moving trucks/pods/uhauls etc. are allowed to sit for up to three full days in front of your house, to make your move as stress free as possible.

This includes your motor vehicles (not normally allowed on the street)

Why does it "look terrible?"
I once had a neighbor in another village, that during a conversation told me that she was upset because cars were parked in their driveway instead of in their garages. She said the many cars lined up in driveways "looked terrible." There is just no pleasing some folks, not that I would even attempt that chore. I doubt I would notice anything in The Villages that I would complain about, unless someone parked a truck on blocs and an old sofa in their front yard. I've seen some properties that I would not find pleasing to my decor preference, but I appreciate personalization. I would definitely NOT bother complaining about a POD or moving truck parked in a neighbor's driveway. And if I was moving OUT, I would not care what the neighbor(s) thought anyway. And I feel that being "inconsiderate" is on the part of those complaining about others when what others are doing does not effect their lifestyles whatsoever.

sallyg 08-28-2024 08:28 AM

I've seen them many times. Call the Community Standards office and they can tell you if there is a time limit. Most likely no one will complain if you need a week or so to unload.

CybrSage 08-28-2024 08:43 AM

It is less that people are Karen's and more that people are worried that it will go from a few days to a few months.

Remember, the pods show up with people no one knows. Did these people also have a few cars on blocks in their yard and no one around them cared, or did that as well, so they think that is normal?

No one knows, which is why rules are created. Same reason why there are limits to so many things I am sure almost everyone is happy the limits exist.

And if longer is needed, just tell your neighbors. People are very accommodating when you actually talked to.

Rules are rules, but if you talk to the neighbors and they do not care, you should be fine.

I just moved into my place here in Hacienda of Mission Hills and had NINE U-Boxes (Uhaul's PODs) delivered in two phases. Both times they were there for four days, from drop-off to pick-up, so I could have one day to unload the lighter stuff before the movers I paid to do the heavy lifting showed up (day three).

I had some neighbors come introduce themselves and always reassured them with the schedule the boxes were going to be picked up. I did not check the "rules" in this regard, as I am moving in and not storing the boxes for an extended period of time.

Bottom line: Do not have more boxes delivered in one pass so as to have to put them in the street and make sure you get them unloaded and picked up ASAP. You'll be fine.

Either that or some of my new neighbors secretly hate me. LOL!

Sales agents don't set rules and don't always convey accurately.

Look in your restrictive convenants.................crickets.

Now that is way too long but they must have paid a fortune in rent to the pod co.

DonnaNi4os 08-28-2024 11:05 AM

Yes. That’s how I moved in almost 7 years ago. When the POD leaves your home it goes to a holding place in Ocala and then is delivered to your driveway. Mine stayed several days over the Thanksgiving weekend until it was picked up.

Welcome to The Villages!

Same here with us. We were told 3 days but it was well known it may be more. All our neighbors were great too. No issues.

Same buying in CYV and having 3 cars, two golf carts, and work van and can’t get but one golf cart in garage cause it’s full of junk, park on street, yard, and in dead end short street, how think those neighbors feel knowing Vehicle has to be in driveway in CYVs in that district. Or bricking in front and side yards IN CYV to create parking lot.

Seems to me being "inconsiderate" would be on the part of a person who "would not care" what the neighbors thought.

Hopefully PODS doesn't loose your POD. 2 1/2 weeks missing kitchen & bedroom stuff (no bed). They did pay for accomidations for that time

Loose whole pod? When I done pod I put lock on and had the key. I also zip tied see if it was tampered with in inconspicuous place.

Looking back at what I wrote and your response, I have to agree. I've always been a good neighbor, but I believe that if I had ONE neighbor that was a complainer, I still think that I would not care what they thought. I don't believe that moving into or out of a home, warrants a label of "inconsiderate" even if the POD set in the driveway for a couple weeks. Then again, I wouldn't be thinking that the neighbor was making a mini-home out of it. :D

Customers have a means to keep track of their POD online or with a phone app.

Moving is very hectic but, people would be well-advised to keep track of their POD and begin asking questions by phone if it looks to be stalled somewhere.

Some people unable to unload and maybe waiting for help and some maybe just non-motivated.

If your neighbors complain after a few days that is a good indicator that you should reload the pod and look for another house.

We just moved, we used u-haul U-Box. It was cheaper and worked great for us. Good luck.
