Good mechanic
I am looking for a trustworthy mechanic in The Villages. I am in the village of Woodbury.
Thank you! |
Sumter Tire in Wildwood
|
Another vote for sumter tire.
|
I have used Wildwood Tire for over 10 years, very satisfied with their work and prices.
|
I have used Sumter Tire for oil changes and other small repairs. But, whenever I have needed a major repair, their quote has been higher than other shops. Recently, they quoted almost double for a new AC than three other auto shops. Also, their prices for a battery and new tires were very high.
I recommend Michael's Automotive in Fruitland Park, and Firestone in Oxford. |
Based on my recent experience, I can no longer recommend Wildwood Tire. I took my car there and told them that the AC was not cooling properly and I wanted a quote for a new AC system. I also told them that the coolant had been inspected and recharged within the past day and that it did not need a recharge. They totally ignored me, charged me $200 for a recharge, and told me that my AC was in good working order. That was hogwash. Apparently, they just did not want to replace the system. Michael's Automotive in Fruitland Park, diagnosed the issue in 5 minutes and replaced the AC system, including a new compressor.

I used them a couple times, but it's "first come, first serve" and the third time I went I did not get in and was asked to come back. |

The last time the Chrysler was sick I started at Sumter Tire. Then went to Kracken Automotive. Near Sparr Lumber. One stall. Need appointment. Half of Sumter price.

I like the guys, but I value my time more. |
Daniel's in Leesburg. Straight shooters that alot of the locals use. They have been refreshingly honest. They are located on Sunnyside behind the Blue Crab fish market. Off 441 and 44

Call Mike Raysin (Michael’s Auto Repair) 352 – 365 – 2955. Address: 307 N. Villa Avenue, Fruitland Park. His shop is just west of 441, on the south side of 466A. I have used Mike for over 10 years. He is excellent. Also, he is reasonably priced and very honest. Over the years, I have sent many Villagers and others there—and always receive very positive feedback.

Tires Plus in Leesburg
Tires Plus in Leesburg (across from Aldi on 441).
Called and got a quote to replace all the TPMS sensors in my wheels, bringing OEM parts with me. Agreed to do it, quoted reasonable price, with the caveat that they most likely would not be able to program them to the car's control unit (needs a dealer-only tool). OK, so I'll get the dealer to only do the programming instead of the entire job, should save hundreds. The mechanic that normally does the tire changing and TPMS stuff tried, and no success - like we said. When I checked-out, the very experienced mechanic at the desk said; 'let me give it a try." I watched him sweat for over 30 minutes, several times I said it's OK, I expected to have to take it to the dealer. Voila. He did it, then refused to take any more than the original quote. This is beyond honestly. While in the waiting room I talked to a guy that drove there from Eustis because he said they do the best alignments in the county and beyond. So, a few months later, I took wifey's car there for alignment. Completely satisfied ! |
I go to the Dealer.

Sumter is where I've gone for tires and an oil change. Only other work I had done was in Gainsville when I had to replace a starter up there last year and Billy's did a good job.
I heard that Wildwood Tire was good too; both in the same area off 301. |

I have always bought tires from Firestone in Oxford. Their price has been lower than Wildwood Tire, Sumter Tire, and Goodyear for Michelin tires. However, most tire stores will price match any other tire store, except the warehouse clubs, like Sam's Club.
