Fence around pool equipment
 

Hey all
I wanted to update since a few of you requested it in the original thread (now closed).
I made an inquiry here for opinions of putting a white vinyl fence around my pool equipment to hide it from street and neighbors view. After a visit to the arc I installed 2 8 ft wide by 4 ft tall plastic fence panels from Home Depot at a cost of $450. The assembly and install took about 3 hours.

I think it looks a lot better with the pool equipment shielded from view. I'm kicking around the idea of putting one more panel as you can still see the equipment from the neighbors pool deck.

Good job, looks nice. That is on my to do list at our home this winter. Questions, how did you anchor the fence posts in the ground? I assume they are pressure treated 4x4’s covered with vinyl sleeves? I am considering using the metal 4x4 anchors that are often used for street side mailboxes that can be hammered into the ground with a sledgehammer and block of wood.

P.S. Nice private back yard and a kick a$$ hose reel.

They sell an H shaped piece of galvanized steel (or it could have been aluminum, I didn't pay attention) that is used to stiffen gate posts. After you locate the end post you drive the h shaped price inside the end post. The posts in the middle didn't need anything, just buried, the one against the house I used a tapcon and fender washer into the house.

That's an old junk hose reel I overhauled and painted baby blue (tight wad).

Nice looking fence. I did something similar around my HVAC units but used decorative panels from Lowes. They are 2 ft (high) x 4 ft (long) panels in black and brown, if white doesn't look good with your house color. I used Quick Crete to anchor 4x4 posts in the ground & used two decorative panels high for 48 inches. Always remember to leave enough room for repair/maintenance folks to service your equipment.

I've got a bunch of little decorative grass plants scattered in my landscaping that I think makes it a little cluttered. I think I'll consolidate them and put them in from of the fence. They don't bloom much but they should break up that big white blob some.

That looks great! Too bad ARC doesn’t require this for every pool build. It would hide 100s of really ugly pool equipment views that I see all over TV. You’re a very considerate neighbor! And it likely muffles the sound too. 👍🏻

OP I would leave it as is, but you could always add long planter, adding taller colorful plants. New equipment is so quiet sound is no longer issue, but I did find that more enclosed sound from equipment can echo. Our pump is near our dining window, and I have to check app to make sure it’s running, but when I added something solid you could definitely notice the humming.

One has to walk behind our garage, or you won’t see our equipment.
Arc turned us down for our project around the equipment. So back to the drawing board.

Very neat and clean looking. I’m sure there are many who appreciate your work. Personally I don’t mind seeing the equipment and actually find it more interesting to look at than I do a white wall. About adding another wall to appease the neighbor, just be sure there will be enough airflow and room to work with the equipment.

Take care when driving stakes into the ground within 5' of your house. It's very easy to pierce undergound irrigation lines. Has happened twice to me by contractors driving in stakes.

I love that you brought the old hose reel back to life with paint. In fact you could use it as inspiration for the potted plants your wife will invariably place on the yard-side of the little fence. You could get pretty ceramic pots with coordinating colors and make a whole theme out of it.

Be very careful with post in the ground until you know where your power comes to your meter.

My tight wad ways die hard, I don't like our new disposable society and our quickness to throw stuff away. I also love to tinker so rebuilding things makes me feel good on top of being fiscally responsible.

We discussed this in the first thread. As they build the pool and worked on the landscaping the utilities and sprinkler lines were marked or got hit several times so unfortunately I'm pretty familiar with their locations.

Every year when we have bulk trash pickup, the streets are loaded with dozens of those beige plastic hose reels, these are almost useless as the plastic handles break off Barbeque grills come in a close second.One bad ignitor and they throw them away!!

Yup, or a gas line. It’s best if you do not choose to have locates done (free) to hand dig it for safety of the above mentioned (kaboom).
