So called Sports Bar

So here is the question Lollygagers.

How do you call yourself a sports bar when you turn out the lights at 8pm. We are just starting a busy sports season and you can’t stay there to even watch the start of the late games or even finish a game that may run late.

Most places in the villages are the same with the exception of 1 or 2 that I know.

Just my rant

vintageogauge 09-06-2024 08:26 AM

Just to name a few, Gators, City Fire, Cody's, Millers Ale House, all open late most days some until midnight. Shop around.

CarlR33 09-06-2024 08:30 AM

LOL, you don’t understand the place you were in was a sports bar for retired old people that watch the afternoon games and normally go to bed at 9 after the squares close?

retiredguy123 09-06-2024 08:36 AM

A few years ago, I went to Beef O'Bradys at Colony Plaza to watch a Patriots game. The sign outside said "Sports Bar". But, when I went inside, I found out that they didn't even have the Sunday Ticket that is required to watch the game. Go figure.

MorTech 09-06-2024 10:53 AM

Word Up! Gators is about it. Even Boosters Bar and Grill will close at 9:00 PM.
It would be nice for them to stay open until 10:00 PM to watch the first half of the late games.

Beefs has been going downhill...Years ago it was packed now barely alive.
Their hot chicken wings are still excellent.

Their wings…..close as I can find to the taste/texture of a western NY wing!

Try My Cousin Vinnies for wings

FMK is opening their Tap Room restaurant in the former Red Lobster building on 466 in October. The owner says he’ll stay open for business late for sporting events.

Am I the only one who has a television at home?

Do you also have the Sunday Ticket? What size is the TV? Where do you live?

Several. Wifes says one of the TV's seems to get only Golf and Football channels, go figure.

I suspect the Victory may also be open later since it's a different demo. Then of course there is Hooters :)

Would rather have Beef on Weck for a game. Some dives actually offer ranch dressing instead of blue cheese with their wings. The Western NY flavor is absent 90% of the time at any place here in the Villages. We shall see with Hooters…lol

Hopefully the food will be good and the waitresses will help encourage folks to come

Since the bun makes the sandwich we order KUMMELWECK ROLLS from Western NY and make our own, perfect, maybe not but close enough to enjoy.

Order from: Your Italian Bakery - Fresh Panettone, Biscotti, Cookies & Much More – DiCamillo Bakery
In Lewiston.

FloridaGuy66 09-06-2024 08:11 PM

Same with Cody's in Brownwood. Went there for Thursday Night Football and they said they don't get the channel for that. I had already started my meal by the time that I found that out.

I completely agree! If the bun or roll is inferior, it doesn’t matter how good the quality of the meats, cheeses, veggies, condiments, etc. (I would say the same of a pizza crust).

Thanks for the link - I just pulled it up and those rolls sure look good - I’m from the West, so unfamiliar with a “weck” sandwich, but looking forward to trying it. I enjoy learning about and tasting all the various regional specialties found throughout the country.

And I went to a Beef OBrady’s and to my surprise they weren’t serving liquor! Don’t know what the problem was that night, but very strange.

HORNET 09-07-2024 09:25 AM

Maybe that’s The Villages way of keeping the peaceful and keep trash out!

HORNET 09-07-2024 09:27 AM

But that will not be on The Village property

Notre Dame Game

We use to go to Margaritaville and now they are closed. Does anyone know where the Notre Dame fans go to watch the afternoon games now.

mntlblok 09-07-2024 12:08 PM

What the weck?

Learning all kinds of stuff today!

That's probably true! Where can us trash go to watch NFL games?

"Trash Sports Bar" has a nice ring to it. With maybe a couple of stripper poles for half time.

You can have my share of the sponge candy, but you forgot Ellicotville Brews! The brewing company had the best beer ever. They opened up a taproom in Fredonia and I think Jamestown too.

If you say so. My house is open at 10:00 and the game I want to watch is on the tv. Plus my house serves the beer/whiskey I like.

And I rarely need to worry about getting kicked out by the management.

So that helps the OP how?

Hooters has Sunday Ticket and will be open until 11:00 PM.
Trashy Sports Bars rock! They are definitely not for pearl-clutchers.

Just parroting Wikipedia, but I now see that those towns are about 26 miles apart and that I-90 roughly parallels the Erie Canal, which I recently learned kinda got killed by the St. Lawrence Seaway - which was a surprisingly interesting story, itself. Bland cheeseburger kind of guy, myself.
