"Saturday Night Live" 50th Season. Starts this September 28, 2024.
Not many shows have reached their 50th Season. Congratulations.
I do find these new Seasons a lot less entertaining than the first years. |

This show has been so bad for at least 10 years. Obnoxiously one sided politically.

It certainly has a New York City kind of approach to things. The cast is very diverse like the City.

Our choice and we are pleased by it. |
I may take a peek if Sandler, Chappelle or Spade were guest hosting.....but I haven’t watched the current SNL product in years. Specifically, when they sacked Norm MacDonald from the Weekend Update. Just because he was incessantly (and rightfully) trolling OJ. His boss, NBC exec Don Ohlmeyer....was a big OJ rumpswab and wasn’t having it anymore!
|
Even their non-political SNL stuff is not very funny anymore. Maybe all the good writers have died off, just like some of the earlier stars (Belushi, Hartman, Farley, Wilder, etc).
|
SNL jumped the shark many years ago.
|
Jelly Roll was really good last night. Liked all the nothings.
|
Initially, in its early years, it was hilarious and a joy to watch. Sadly, over the years, it gradually degenerated into unwatchable woke garbage.
|
That is longevity!!! Nowadays I only watch the intro, cold open and Weekend Update. I find the sketches so humourless for the most part. I miss funny people of the past like Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey and Kate McKinnon.

In general, most shows get stale because they are set to an original format and eventually there is only so much you can write about one scenario. The longevity of this show is that it is topical changing with the time, but this is a problem with many in our age range. Though the show keeps on changing many of us as much as we try do not.
If you're going to compare longevity, you cannot compare it to a situation comedy you have to look at it as 60 minutes where over the years the hosts have changed, and the show keeps up with current events. I worked at NBC in the 70's and was offered to run my department on the show and turned it down because it was too time consuming, and I was young and had a life outside of work. |
Watched it from the beginning...totally can't stand to watch it since it became so political sided.

Seriously, I have college age kids...they may check out the cold open on YouTube but like most of their demo, they’re watching the streaming services for real comedy. The likes of Chappelle, Sandler even SNL cast off Shane Gillis...doing unfiltered, uncensored specials on Netflix or listening to Rogan and other podcasters for the real deal. To your point though, they are watching but like most with a short attention span...they’re doing so in 60 second intervals |

I agree that SNL makes fun of everyone no matter what age, sex, political party or class. |
Never really liked the show, the humor isn’t that great.

Nat Bargatze is next week's SNL host. I am not familiar with his work but it sounds like he is a clean comic. Suitable for all ages.
