Be Safe, Shooters Near Frequently Used Villager Intersection

Leesburg police are asking the public for information after an 87-year-old man sitting in a car at a gas station was shot by someone arguing with him Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded around 2:40 p.m. to a shooting reported at the Citgo along West Main Street, where it was determined three suspects had approached the vehicle — two on the passenger’s side and one on the driver’s side — before the shooting occurred.
A confrontation began and the suspect on the driver’s side then shot the man before all three suspects ran away, police said. The victim was hospitalized and underwent surgery Saturday night, according to a news release.

The 3 have not been apprehended so stay on your toes if you travel in the direction of the Leesburg Walmart or towards its downtown area.

Never paranoid, just aware of my surroundings. It’s a military thing. Schema is recorded that there are 3, and they can simultaneously approach a vehicle on both sides.

Thanks for the warning.

What 3 guys should we watch out for ?

Safety Ranger 09-30-2024 01:25 PM

I'm going to go out on a limb bet that the "shooter" was not a card-carrying NRA member, much less had a CC permit. just sayin.

The 3 that is going to approach you aggressively? I’m guessing it is just good to be alert to your surroundings for the time being.

Taltarzac725 09-30-2024 03:24 PM

They are probably no where near here now.

One would think that three could simultaneously approach a vehicle from three sides, not just two.

Easy fix - don't drive into Leesburg for gas. The walmart or the station at Lake Deaton is easier to get to and likely safer.

Crime happens, find something more sensational to get excited about.

I looked carefully where this Walmart location is. It is the same one I wrote about years ago when husband wanted to quickly go around TV to go to a Walmart. There is designated police parking right in front. We have never been to a Walmart where it was necessary to designate parking spots for police. We went in the store - once, never again. Husband decided the long way in TV was ok with him afterwards.

For the record, those ‘police only parking’ spots exist at malls, plazas and retail centers across the country. It’s a courtesy. Doesn’t mean you’re in Hell’s Kitchen! (Apologies to gentrified Hell’s Kitchen for the sarcasm!)

RobertScott 09-30-2024 06:26 PM

I use that gas gas station all the time as I often go to Leesburg. I like it because it is less crowded than Lake Deaton. It is is kind of a sketchy area but it is a wide open place so I have always felt I would have time to see trouble approaching.
Proprietor is a friendly guy, not that that is relevant.

Yeah, I heard they flew in from South Dakota just for this.

These incidents have occurred in different areas and Beverly Hills was featured very recently when 3 perps walked across a gas station lot to a guy who was standing there, threatened him and robbed him. If you watched this video in Leesburg, the guys came strolling across the lot.

Blow it off if it suits you. Normal, thanks for the heads up.

OrangeBlossomBaby 09-30-2024 07:30 PM

I appreciate the info too. My dermatologist has their main office just down the street and sometimes I stop in at Walmart on my way to an appointment.

Robbing from Beverly Hills to Leesburg? These guys need professional help.

Yeah, vulnerable old people are perfect targets when they are so obtuse. It's becoming a thing and one must think thugs don't watch the news..

One can find the same designated police parking, at shopping malls, hospitals, and clinics. The VA clinic in Mulberry has 3 reserved parking spaces for police parking. Walmart is just one of many retail that have reserve spots, in every state that we have worked in.

I wouldn’t give the OP a hard time for his post. I think it’s good to alert people that something bad happened at a location near us so we can think twice about going to that area.
These 3 guys were on foot so they can be close by, and I bet these guys are pretty dumb that do this during the day and in front of cameras.

Lots of assumptions here. They could have easily bought a ride on a city bus to somewhere else or called in a friend to take them somewhere else.

Or taken someone else's vehicle which has not been reported as yet.

I saw the video. Horrifying! Wide open area at a gas station in Leesburg, three young guys in black hoodies on a hot Florida day walk up to a guy sitting in his car while pumping gas, apparently to rob him, and the guy talking to him shoots him. Then they run like wild dogs. I’ve bought gas there before. Are they long gone? I doubt it. They are probably Leesburg residents. I hope they are quickly caught and put down, one way or another. This didn’t happen in The Villages. It’s about twenty minutes from where I live here. But lots of us drive through there or stop there.

DrMack 10-01-2024 07:00 AM

Thank You

Thank you for the heads up. We use the station near there for gas. I hope the old guy pulls through. No one deserves that,

I doubt very seriously that it was road rage. The 3 perps were on foot.

What we can determined for sure is they are armed, they are still out there, and they do shoot old people.

I don’t think we know the whole story. You don’t know if there was some kind of confrontation or road rage prior to the shooting. May not be that they walked up to some random car.

Point is we don’t know if or what occurred prior to the shooting. So can’t assume it’s random.

I am still surprised at the replies made to someone posting information. It is getting to the point where you can't post anything without someone disrespecting the person. It is sad that people sit at their computer waiting to make negative comments for fun or thinking they are clever. Even RING Doorbell neighbor posts have keyboard cowards commenting rudely. I was hoping our generation would have retained the courtesy and respect taught throughout our life and be an example to the younger generation.

Are there random shootings? Certainly . But more often something occurred prior to aggravate the individuals.

Road rage is just one example. It does occur against pedestrians too. Where did those shooters on foot run off to? Possibly a car parked elsewhere.

May not have been road rage at all but some other incident.

Point is we don’t know if this was a random act.

Road-Runner 10-01-2024 08:02 AM

I don't know what's sadder; that this happened to an 87 year old man just sitting in his car or how so many here respond by mocking the OP for showing concern. I know these kinds of attacks are common place in our society today but they shouldn't be! If this were to ever happen to others here or one of their loved ones I somehow doubt they'll be as flip next time. I pray the man fully recovers and that these punks are caught and fully prosecuted.
