Seco new Meter kWh usage
 

Seco switch in June, only 9 days
Starting full month in July use around 938kWh
August, 1010kW
September 1986kWh

Nothing has changed, in fact we were gone for 5 days. Have gas appliances, and checked AC programming and run time has been constant, with prior months.
Pool hours 1 hour less per day.

Contacted SECO, only answer was i used more kWH. That was a big help.

Any thoughts?

My usage was 800, 1100, and 900 for those months and I was gone for two weeks in Sept. Last year’s numbers were 900, 1200, and 1100

Three things to look at:
1. Read your meter yourself to see that it matches the number on the bill. It certainly should but it’s easy enough to check.

2. Does your 2024 usage for those months match your 2023 usage?

3. Use the usage tools to identify any period of time with an unreasonably high usage. If you find one, does it correlate with something you were doing?

Buy a "Sense" whole home energy monitor and check usage, independently, for yourself. Available on Amazon.

Have you had a chance to compare the "Sense" reports with the new SECO reports? Are they at all close?

I still find the SECO webpages a big clunky. I assume Sense is much cleaner and easier to use.

I’m averaging 23KW day, based on last 37 days since the new meter.

Seco is using horse and carriage technology compared to Sense. The numbers align within the margin of error, about 3%.

Average daily use in August 45.66khw per day
September 31.26 per day
October 68.17 per day

October billing cycle, pool ran 31 hours less for September billing
Cooling run time 51 hours less for September billing

For 6 days our cooling was set at 79 while we were gone.

Meter is 8 days past bill reading, my daily usage for current 8 days is 31.11 per day.

We have never been above 45.66 per day for the last 20 months

Will be paying attention for next few months.

Your average power consumption increase is about 1.5 kilowatts, assuming something new is running 24 hours. You might look at the power consumption of typical home appliances in these charts.

Oddly most of them are listed in kilowatt hours per hour! LOL, instead of just watts or kilowatts.

Look for something new in the October cycle from that list. If you don't have anything new, look at the high energy consumption items to try to determine whether you had unusual usage of those items. Did you have visitors?

My first bill after the switch was screwy too. They totaled the usage of about three weeks on the old meter with what was used on the new meter, and charged based on that, but the amount of usage printed on the bill was a different number of KWH. No harm, no foul.

If you read OPs #7 post, use was actually less, for ac running time, and less pool pump time, and gone for 6 days. I would question that much use.

Maybe a neighbor had some work done that might have had contractors using your exterior outlets over the week that you were away?

Have lived several places, Seco does a great job !

The “usage tracker” on the SECO webpage show the kWhs for the old meter and the new meter for the month of the change over. The total of the two is right around where it should be. The numbers from the new meter going forward are consistent with what we have used in past years. If you haven’t looked at the “usage tracker” on the SECO webpage, I would suggest you give it try. You can obtain usage in as fine a granularity as 15 minutes. You can see when the AC turns on. Perhaps you will gain some insight. If nothing pops out, I would call SECO back and escalate the problem. Good luck.

I read it. You apparently missed my point. 1.5KW continuously is a big increase in power consumption. It is even greater if the consumption occurred only partially during the days - 3KW if only 12 hours, 4.5 KW if only 8 hours.

Trying to find that level of usage limits the consumption candidates dramatically. It is unlikely, but possible, that there was an error in the meter report. Since the report is done via remote electronic reporting, it tends to rule out clerical / meter-reading / transcription errors.

My bill tripled the first month awaiting SECO tech. Over a $500 bill with the new meter. Have seen anything near that since leaving Long Island in 09. Well look into and send someone out again. over a $400 increase pure NUTS
