I'll be pulling for the Dodgers this year. As a young boy growing up in SoCal, they were always my team. Many fond memories of going to games at Chavez Ravine, including a World Series game in 1965 where Sandy Koufax as was the winning pitcher. But...the best memories were listening to the games on a small transistor radio, with Vin Scully calling the action. Listening to Scully call a game was almost as good as being there. If you closed your eyes and just listened, you could see the game in your mind's eye. Go Dodgers!

JerseyGurl 10-23-2024 05:57 AM

Same here, except I was a young girl, lol. My mom was such a huge fan we went to games often except for when I was left home babysitting my two younger brothers. I also remember her listening to Vin on the radio. Cool thing is where my husband and I lived in SoCal before moving here we shopped at the same supermarket as Vin, and before he passed we’d see him occasionally. Such a great guy! So friendly. When watching the games on TV nowadays it’s so difficult for me to listen to the very dull announcers because I was so spoiled by Vin. These days I admit I’m more of a fair weather fan, but my daughter and youngest brother (both in SoCal) are major fans. They’d both make my mom so happy if she was still here. Go Dodger blue!

Been bleeding Dodger blue since 1965, so looking for the Ohtani led team to beat up the hated Yankees and claim the World Series championship! This Connecticut born fan can't wait to celebrate!!

Aaron Judge of the Hated Yankees might have something to say about that.

In the 5th grade when we listened on the radio in class as Koufax and Drysdale broke my heart. That next month wasn't very nice, either. . .

Probably obscure for a lot of people. Assume you are referring to JFK assassination.

Indeed. It was an impactful time for that young kid. Mickey Mantle was probably my biggest hero.

Dodger Blue For Life

We moved from Miami to SoCal during the 1981 world series between the Yankees and Dodgers. I will always remember driving across the desert with the ball of flame setting in the west while we hung on every word of Vin Scully giving his colorful description. From that moment on we were hooked. And if we weren't listening to Vin doing the game on radio or TV, we were in our regular seats above the third base line. We were at the final home game that Vin called which is a moment I will always remember. 38 years as fans in SoCal and now 5 more as fans in Florida. I wonder if there's a Dodgers club in The Villages?

I remember the first time I saw Mantle play. Big thrill for a small kid!

And I remember when he died. It was on August 13, 1995. I was in my early 40s but that was the first time that I felt old. He would have been 93 last Sunday.

Amazing with all his injuries how great he was.

I have been a Dodger fan for over 68 years. This year's team is thin on starting pitching but has a strong position player lineup. Their problem is one of the worst managers in MLB. I liked Dave Roberts when he helped the Red Sox win in 2004 but he is a weak manager. If they win it all, it will be in spite of their manager! Hope they win! I'm from NY but never have liked the yankees.

CODYCAT 10-24-2024 10:42 AM

In honor of Los Angeles and New York I will cheer for neither one to win. 🙃

Because we can post, that is why we post. Why do you care if they posted and say they didn't care who won? Not everyone is a Doger fan or a Wankeer fan, they can state their opinion, as long as it isn't political, supposedly.

Two good reasons to not like New York teams, the Mets and Yankees have the top two payrolls in all of Major League Baseball. I’m not a Dodgers fan, but go L.A., at least they aren’t the Evil Empire!

And the Dodgers are third!

But that does not include the Dodgers’ deferred payments. Ohtani deferred 97% of his salary this year which is $68 million. He only gets paid $2 million a year for 10 years and then $68 million a year after that.

If you include deferred payments, I believe the Dodgers have the highest payroll.

Shohei Ohtani, the LA Dodgers, and the Power of $680M in Deferred Payments - Raistone

Ohtani is due $680 million from 2034-43, Freeman $57 million from 2028-40 and Hernández $8.5 million from 2030-39. Betts is owed $115 million in salaries from 2033-44 and the final $5 million of his signing bonus payable from 2033-35.
