Texas Style Barbecue
We have noticed a turn around for a local barbecue restaurant in our area due to new employees and a commitment to better service and quality menu items. Located at the entrance to the Walmart Supercenter in Summerfield, FL on Highway 27 /441 is DICKEY'S BARBECUE PIT. The Texas Style barbecue there has become very popular with the staff having to work hard to keep from running out of popular menu items. One of the highlights of the menu is the Pulled Pork Sandwich for only $4.99 when ordered with their App. The sandwich features tender pit cooked barbecue with available onions, pickles and slaw on request. We believe this is one of the best values for Texas Style barbecue. Several excellent sauces are available. Noteworthy are the recent new employees who really provide outstanding service. We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant and witness the turn around. Best wishes to all.

Their Mac and cheese comes in a boil in bag, so my guess is no onsite smoker

We went to a Dickey’s here once. Now, the hub teases me with it saying things “if you don’t quit doing whatever, I’m going to take you to Dickey’s”. Enough said.

Having tried Q world wide, taken road trips on “Q trails” in TX and the south I’d put Dickey’s in the middle of the local offerings. Skip Mission (a chain) Oakwood and all others. Head to IBBQ Express. |

Is the Summerfield location better than the Traverse Plaza location?

I recently went to Dickey's in Brownwood and I was very disappointed. First, my food was room temperature (at best). I asked for it to be reheated and the guy behind the counter said the ovens were off and it would take 20 minutes just to get it to temperature. Add to that, the ribs were a very sad excuse for ribs.
I would recommend Oakwood BBQ on 301 or in Fruitland park. |

As a former brisket judge in Texas I’d say your options are limited locally. The next time in Ocala, try Big Lee’s Serious BBQ. The brisket is superb and the pulled pork melts in your mouth. One of the only places around here where I found burnt ends too. After eating, we always leave with a pound of each to enjoy for the rest of the week. The owner started with a food truck and beat Bobby Flay on the Food Network channel. Also, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives did a segment on them a couple years ago.

Used to be a man near the interstate past Wildwood, had an old Dairy Queen building, a couple picnic tables, a smoker, and did the most delicious BBQ. Simple menu of beef and pork. But have not gone out that way for some time, must check it out again. |
